Jason spent a lot of his time at the park, where he was working with his ability to summon lightning, and with his flying. He was pretty good at flying, but he still majorly sucked at summoning lightning. Sure, he could get a bolt or two, but then he was on his back for a couple of hours, passed out. That would hardly work in battle.
Not that there were going to be a lot of battles here in Madison Valley.
He was just getting ready to try to summon one when he saw a girl who reminded him of...well, Thalia. It wasn’t Thalia, because her hair was long while his sister’s was spiky and short, but the way she moved and the bow he carried was enough to remind him.
He stood, watching her, and raising a hand in greeting.

Most of the time, when Katniss wanted to use her bow, she went out to the woods and either hunted or set up targets in the camp that she and her friends had set up several years back. Today, though, she was preparing to give Octavia lessons, so she decided to try setting up in the park where they’d have a bit more open space and less obstacles.
She was a little surprised when a younger boy waved at her since she didn’t think she recognized him. Still, she was trying to be friendlier, so she waved back and decided to walk over to where he was before setting up her targets. “Hi,” she said. “I’m Katniss. I don’t think we’ve met.”

“I’m Jason. You just...reminded me of my sister? This may sound weird, but you’re not a Hunter of Artemis, are you?” She’d probably look at him like he was super strange, but he’d deal with it. He just gave her that feeling.
“That’s what my sister was, and she always carried a bow too.”
***
“I was, actually,” Katniss said. “I mean, not officially, but I spent a good amount of time with her when she was here.” That was a long time ago though she did miss the goddess frequently. “Who’s your sister?”
There had been a fair number of archers in Madison Valley through the years.

“Thalia Grace,” he said, wondering she had known her. If Artemis had been here, maybe they’d all been there too at one point. The idea of that warmed his heart but also saddened him. Perhaps the very place he was standing now, his sister had stood once. If only he could still feel the echo of her here, but that wasn’t where his abilities lie.
“She’s older than me, but I guess she wouldn’t look it anymore.”

Considering the vastness of the multiverse, sometimes Madison Valley was really a small world. “I knew Thalia when she was here,” Katniss said. “We weren’t close, but we were friendly.” She knew that Darcy was a lot closer to the other archer. “Have you met Darcy? They were good friends.”
She couldn’t remember who else was still around that might have known his sister.
***
She DID know Thalia. It was pretty amazing and made him feel closer to her - Thalia, and Katniss - for a moment.
“Darcy’s my Guardian, actually. She took me in because she was good friends with Thalia. I really appreciate that she did so that I could be there for her when Haymitch left.”
***
Katniss’s smile faltered a little when he mentioned Haymitch. His loss was still a sore point for her even with the bright spot of Cinna’s arrival. “Yeah, uh, Haymitch and I are from the same place,” she said. “He was kind of like a father to me and my sister, Prim.” She was glad that Darcy had Jason and others to support her and Stephanie.
“So, are you a demi god too?” she asked.
***
“Yeah. Son of Jupiter. Thalia and I are full siblings, basically. Except he was Zeus when he conceived Thalia and Jupiter when he conceived me. Kind of weird, but basically the same.”
He frowned.
“I’m sorry Haymitch left. From what I’ve heard of the place you come from, it was terrible.”
***
Terrible didn’t begin to describe Panem, but even after being this far removed from it, Katniss didn’t like to talk about it so she just nodded. “Yeah, we were improving things, but he was happy here,” she said. “So was Thalia.” It seemed cruel that the dome would give those glimpses of happiness and then yank them away.
On the other hand, she supposed any respite from their difficult lives was worth it.
“Well, I think that basically makes us family,” she said. “Or at least I feel like that’s what Darcy would say. So if you ever need anything, let me know.”
***
Jason had never had much in the way of family, so being offered this made him smile.
“I definitely will. I won’t keep you any longer, but I’ll see you around?”
He smiled and waved goodbye before going back to his clearing to practice some more.
