It might've been faint, but it was still loud enough for him to hear. "Oh, sweetheart..."
That was Kristof pulling her into a hug, not wanting to let her go. "It's okay, baby girl. It's okay, I promise." He just held her, keeping her close. He'd known Savannah before, but not this Savannah. This was the daughter he'd only barely met, who was now terrified and vulnerable and probably utterly confused.
And there really wasn't much he could do about it.
