Who: Lilly What: Operation "Pick A Book" is a go When: Friday evening Where: Home Status/Rating Narrative/Low
Her recent trips outside hadn’t been to the cemetery or the park as usual, but had been to the town proper. Sure, she received a lot more looks of interest and worry, being a six year old by herself, but that’s where she wanted to be.
That’s where the words were.
They were everywhere: large signs, signs on the sidewalk, car windows.. Some glowing, some shiny with paint and others surrounded by smiling people or pets. There were words at the cemetery, she had seen them etched into the headstones, but they weren’t the words she had been wanting to see anymore. She had also seen Kristof and the other occupants of the house pick out books from a large wooden case that seemed to go up and up and up. The colorful books, the books she had seen Brie pick out, were on the lowest shelves.
Standing barefoot in front of the bookcase, Lilly stared up at it, head tilted to the side slightly in thought. Finally, she bent and retrieved a hardbound bright red book. Looking at the cover, she smiled when she saw the smiling machine along with the very small man beside it.
Sitting down right where she stood, legs crossed, Lilly opened the book up almost reverently, trying her hardest not to rip or bend any of the pages. She liked the bright yellow surrounding the red machine and the happy man beside it. Disoriented, it took her a few moments to realize she was holding the book upside down. Soon as she righted it, she spotted a familiar word, it almost jumped off the page.
Day
Mouthing it out slowly to herself, Lilly smiled, a small index finger tapping the page right under where the word was. Running her finger along the other words, all foreign... But not for long.
