The poem says that I - or Alain, mayhap, I don't know, it says Cuthbert with golden hair, mine's not but Alain fits the description - it implies one of us will betray Roland. On account of one night's disgrace, whatever that's to mean.
I won't be disgraced and I'd die before I'd betray Roland. I'm his second. Browning has to be a liar. Your theory can't be right.
