Jordan's life was finally back on track. She wasn't over Mason's being sent back, would never be over it. But at the same time? She'd moved past the part where it hurt to think about him and had gotten to the part of things where she didn't think about him all that much unless something made her. And then she'd gotten to where she could think about him, could remember the good times and the bad, and could share those memories without the overwhelming pain.
Didn't mean that conversations didn't still hurt sometimes, but losing someone that way in Madison Valley wasn't necessarily easy to handle and everybody dealt at their own pace.
Now, though? Now she was doing well. She had her job and her friends, she'd moved out of a place with entirely too many memories, she'd started meeting new people. Though acknowledging that only made her think of Max, of the way he was just so... nice. So genuine. People like that were rare, she'd learned that one well enough in just the few short years she'd been alive.
Jordan had only been at work for a couple hours, but it was already one of those days that made her glad things were slow. It meant that she was able to take her time with the customers that came in, and she liked being able to do that. It made her feel good when she was able to be helpful beyond just making a recommendation or telling somebody where they could find whatever they were looking for. She liked feeling like she'd made a difference in someone's day, even if it was just a tiny one.
The sound of the door chimes caught her attention and she glanced up from the counter, unable to keep from smiling when she saw Max.
