Maria was quiet, not wanting to push him and trying to allow him to direct the pace of this conversation as he would.
"I don't think anyone does well with emotions and anyone who says different is lying to you." She gave him a faint smile. "It's something that most people are really good about making up lies to cover up for." She shrugged. "I mean, I have to deal with them and confront them all of the time but that doesn't mean I'm always the best with them or even good sometimes."
She took a drink from her glass, wondering if it would make an awkward pause in their conversation if she asked for a refill.
"Michael, let me ask a serious question. What do you want there to be between us?"
