WHO: Lucifer Morningstar and Trixie Espinoza WHAT: Having dinner and talking WHERE: Their house WHEN: Tonight WARNINGS: Nah STATUS: Closed/Completed Gdoc
It had been a very odd few weeks for Lucifer. Not one but two people claiming to be his children had shown up, making his life far more complicated then he wanted it to be. Of course, neither of them were his exactly - their fathers had been the version of him from another dimension - but it was still awkward and uncomfortable and he certainly wasn’t planning to go to birthday parties and soccer games.
He’d been sitting at the table staring and feeling sorry for himself for far too long and he realized it was getting a bit too late to start cooking dinner.
“Trixie,” he called. “What would you like on your pizza?”
Hey, at least he was remembering to feed her.
***
Pizza was one of Trixie’s favorite dinners, though she’d admit she did miss Ella’s cooking. Of course, if she really wanted home-cooked meals, she could probably bug Aziraphale and Crowley. “Pepperoni,” she said, wandering into the dining room.
“You’ve been weird lately. How come?” she asked. Subtlety and tact were not the young girl’s strong suits.
***
Lucifer grabbed his phone and put in an order for pepperoni pizza and breadsticks before answering her. He looked at her for a long moment before he spoke.
“Have you seen the network? There are two people here who claim they are my children.”
He didn’t know how she’d react to that but he wasn’t sure that it would be good.
***
Trixie read the network, but not everything. A lot of it was boring grown up stuff that she had no interest in. Apparently she needed to pay closer attention. She frowned a little. “You have kids?” Would they be moving in? Would he no longer want to take care of her?
***
“In a sense. They’re mine, in other dimensions. I didn’t know either of them before today, and I’m not sure I want to be friends with either of them. I’m not sure they want to be friends with me.” His family was always overly complicated, and it annoyed him to no end that things couldn’t just be simple.
***
“So they aren’t moving in with us?” she asked. That was her biggest concern. Trixie didn’t want to share the person who was closest to a parent that she had in this town, especially with his own children. She liked being his favorite human, though she supposed that his children wouldn’t exactly be human so maybe that wouldn’t matter.
***
“No, certainly not. One has wards of his own - he’s hardly a child. And the other has her own Guardian that she seems happy with.” He looked at Trixie more closely. “You’re not jealous of them, are you?” That would be an odd thing to be, but that was the feeling he was getting from her. Strange.
***
No way would Trixie admit to being jealous of anyone. She shook her head. “No, why would I be?” she asked. “You’re still my guardian.” And he was still in love with her mother, but since Chloe wasn’t here, that didn’t matter too much. She also still had Aziraphale and Crowley and Cas and Balthazar, none of whom had kids around as far as she knew.
“Do I get to meet them?”
***
“If you’d like to, of course,” he said. He saw no reason why she couldn’t meet Sabrina or Merlin. They both seemed decent enough people, even if they were his kids. Or, well, some version of him.
“And of course I’m still your Guardian. Nobody else is going to be your Guardian until your mother comes back.” And he hoped very much that someone would.
***
Trixie hoped that her mom would come back too, as much for Lucifer’s sake as her own. “Good, as long as you’re not trying to get rid of me.” That would make her a very unhappy human and she could probably make life very difficult for him if she was unhappy.
“Do you wanna play Monopoly tonight?”
***
“I’d never try to get rid of you,” he said adamantly. He couldn’t imagine how angry her mother would be - humans seemed sometimes overly fond of their offspring. “You have a place here with me no matter who shows up.”
He couldn’t help but chuckle at that.
“Again?”
***
“It goes with pizza,” Trixie said, as if that should be obvious. “Unless you want to try a different game.”
She wouldn’t mind playing something else. She just wanted his attention.
***
“We can play Monopoly, if that’s what you really desire.” He didn’t really care either way. He didn’t mind spending time with her or giving her his attention. He was actually quite fond of her himself, although he wasn’t going to admit it.
“Go get the board and we can set it up.”
***
Actions spoke louder than words, so Trixie didn’t need him to say it as long as he kept treating her as special as he always did. She grinned and jumped up, giving him a quick hug before going to get the game out.
“We’ll have a fun night,” she declared.
***
Lucifer was less excited about playing Monopoly than she was, but he couldn’t help but like making her happy. While she was getting the game, he got out some glass and sodas and poured a little bit (well, more than a little bit) of whiskey into his own. It would make the night a lot more fun.
