Kurt knew that a lot of people had left town. Erik Lehnsherr had been one of those people. As well as Marcos Diaz. Two people important to Lorna. While he wasn't very close to Lorna, he wanted to reach out to her. Make sure she was okay and all that. So he teleported to where she had been living, making sure not to teleport inside. He didn't want to startle her, or Dawn.
He knocked lightly on her door, waiting patiently for her to answer. He had a pizza with him from work, he wanted to make sure she was remembering to eat. Because that was important.
He knew how it could be.
--
Lorna was pissed, which was a normal default for her, but the trip home and showing up with new memories had done a shift in her personality. She hated herself, pissed at the dome, and the list kept building the more she thought about it. It wasn’t enough to be toyed with by Reeva or how Marcos could be dead in her world, but the dome had to kick her just when things were good. Even things with Erik was starting to turn itself around only for it to explode in her face.
With Marcos gone, she was trying to get back into the routine of a single parent. Didn’t help with the new memories bouncing around in her head. If it wasn’t for Dawn, Lorna knew she’d be in an even worse place than where she was. Possible drinking, but her mental health would very much be in a very bad place. Dawn was down for a nap, which meant Lorna was lying on the couch, looking over stupid messages between her and Marcos, missing the man. The knock on her door brought a confused look on her face, trying to remember if she invited anyone over.
Sighing, she moved off the couch and looked through the peephole to see it was Kurt. While she didn’t want any company, she knew she couldn’t hide from the world forever. Opening the door, she gave the best smile she could muster with how she was feeling. “Hey, did I ask for something?” The little sleep she was getting plus the little she was eating had her questioning since maybe she had.
Moving away from the door so he could come in, “Ignore the mess. I need to finish going through things.” Or more she had to finish going through Marcos’ stuff, which she was avoiding.
--
He shook his head in response to Lorna's question. "No. I invited myself over and brought food. Because you need to eat, and I know you're likely ignoring that fact." He shrugged slightly, and stepped inside.
"I'm sorry, I should have said I was coming over. I just… I worry."
He made his way into the kitchen, and set the pizza box on the counter. "I didn't know what kind of pizza you liked so I just brought cheese. I figured everyone likes cheese pizza."
He was speaking softly, as he wasn't sure if Dawn was asleep or not. He didn't want to wake her if she was.
--
At least she wasn’t making plans then forgetting about them since Lorna didn’t need to be worrying about that. She had enough on her plate and didn’t need anymore issues to have bumping around in her head. “I’m fine, Kurt. I’m eating, not much, but I’m eating.” A bite here and there was still eating or at least she was sticking to it while also knowing it wasn’t a lot. “Thanks though,” she said after a moment cause it was nice of the kid to do that even when he didn’t need to do it. He probably had a billion other things to do and she was the adult, not him. It was her job to worry about people and not have people worried about her.
“No, it’s fine,” she told him with a shake of her head. “Consider this a mutants are always welcome type of place. You don’t need to worry, I’ll bounce back always have.” Then again while her life had always been one giant mess, it never was this bad. It had been a different story before the memories because she knew she had made the choice to be away from Marcos, but the new memories had her going back to her people. Last time she had been away from Marcos against her wishes had been when she was in jail.
As much as she didn’t want to eat, she didn’t have the heart to kick him out. Had this been before, she probably have no issues; however, her attitude had done some improving with the Inner Circle. “Cheese is fine. Help yourself to whatever is in the fridge to drink, which I think is only water and some soda,” Lorna knew she’d need to hit the store for stuff, but she wasn’t in the mood. Moving further into the kitchen to grab some paper plates for them.
“And you can speak normally,” she told him, taking note of his tone. “Dawn’s napping in the back but thankfully, she’s a heavy sleeper so as long as you’re not screaming bloody murder, then you’re fine.” She told him with a small shrug before leaning against the counter. “I know you were close with Erik. So how are you doing about him being gone?” Lorna felt bad about not asking the guy sooner, but she had been so wrapped up in her losses along with Dawn to where she hadn’t thought about it.
--
Kurt took Lorna up on her offer, and found a soda in the fridge. He then found a few plates for the pizza. Perhaps Lorna didn’t want to eat, but he was starving. And at least he tried to get her to eat, right? That was important. He knew how it was, to forget to eat. And to have someone force food on you when eating was the last thing you wanted to do. So he’d brought the pizza, and that was all he was going to do. He wasn’t going to sit there until she ate.
“I am doing well. My mother was closer to Erik than I was. But we’re both doing well.” He placed a few pieces of pizza on one of the plates, and leaned back against the counter. He took a bite of the pizza, and studied Lorna for a moment while he chewed.
“I’m sorry I didn’t come by before. I really meant to. I’m sorry it took people leaving town to get me to come over here.” He really had meant to spend more time with Lorna. He wanted to get to know her better. They were both mutants, after all. They needed to stick together.
“How is Dawn doing?” he asked.
--
Most people knew better than to try to force Lorna to eat or try to get her to do anything she wasn’t on board with. Now if this was a few people from her world, they might have a better shot or more it’d probably end up with some fighting, but she was assuming since she usually allowed people to make their own choices, they’d do the same for her. The thought was nice, but Lorna had so many things going on in her mind, fighting to keep her mental health in check, and worry about Dawn to where she was forgetting to care for herself.
“Still, it sucks for both of you even if she was closer to him. Which the offer also extends to you, if you need anything, then let me know. Did you know him back in your world or only here?” Lorna had already told Raven that, and now she was making sure Kurt knew. Though she was curious on her question. Lorna knew Erik and Raven knew one another from their own world, but she was curious how many people knew of her dad back in their own world. Moving to grab a slice of pizza, she moved to take a seat at the table still unsure if it was only going to sit on the plate or if she’d try to eat it.
At his apology, she shook her head, “Nothing to be sorry about. You’re busy being a normal kid, I’ve been busy doing the mom thing, and then getting back in a good place with Marcos so it’s cool.” To her, it wasn’t a big deal. She liked Kurt, thought he was a cool kid, but she was glad he was doing his own thing. Most mutants weren’t able to do that in their own world, especially when they weren’t able to hide being mutant. “But we’re both here so that can change. My door is always open to you.” Mutants were never turned away since they had to watch out for one another.
His question on Dawn caused her to glance over in the direction of her room before sighing softly, “Fine, I guess? She’s such a happy little one and I doubt she even knows what’s going on, but if I had to lose Marcos, then I’m glad it’s now rather than later, you know?” Lorna could handle the loss. She didn’t want Dawn to know that pain and at this age, she’d never remember unlike if it was much later on down the road.
--
“I didn’t know him well, but I knew him. I appreciated the fact that he and my mother were close. Even though she and I weren’t close back home, I was glad that she had someone like Erik. I know he had his flaws, but that doesn’t mean I wanted him to be sent back home.” He wanted Erik to be happy, and he wasn’t sure how possible that was for him back home. With Nina’s death, and Raven’s. Erik had seemed happy in Madison Valley. At least, as happy as he could be.
Kurt nodded at Lorna’s words, “I am glad she is at an age where she won’t be affected too terribly much by Marcos being sent home.” Dawn was at an age where she likely wouldn’t remember Marcos being here, at least as she aged. At least there was that.
“I both love it here and hate it here at the same time. I love it because I get a chance to know Raven, where that chance was taken away from me back home. I hate it because I don’t know if she will be taken away as the Dome chooses.” He shrugged a bit at this, and took a bite of his slice of pizza.
“I don’t want to lose her again,” he said, softly.
--
“He does have his flaws, no doubt about that. Considering our relationship back in my world, this was my chance to get to know the man,” Lorna knew what he was saying. She had so much anger towards the man considering their past, but she still on some level wanted to get to know her dad. Even more so with her new memories and finally getting the confirmation from her aunt on who her dad was plus with choices she had made. Only it was a bit too late and who knew if he’d ever show back up here. Lorna wasn’t even sure if Kurt knew the relationship between Erik and Lorna since it wasn’t like she was open about it.
Lorna shrugged slightly before nodding slowly. “Yeah, I mean it sucks for so many different reasons, but it isn’t like she won’t know her father. I had been planning to make sure she grew up knowing that culture as much as I can and what not before he came so it’s back to that route.” It also didn’t help on how she knew the chances of them ever seeing their daughter again in their world was very slim and that was if Marcos survived with the whole thing around Max. Though she didn’t need to bore Kurt with those details or show how horrible of a person she was, especially when she was already in a low place with her thoughts.
Her heart broke for the guy at hearing how he talked about Raven. Lorna couldn’t remember her mother other than a few details, but she knew it still hurt the loss of her mom. The idea of what this dome could do and how she was feeling right now...well she wouldn’t wish the feelings on anyone even her long list of enemies, but for sure never on Kurt. “I get that and all you can do is make sure you enjoy the time you have with her. I’m sure she doesn’t want to lose you either and it’s probably a fear of hers, but I’m sure the dome knows better than to piss you off,” she told him with a smile, trying to cheer him up a bit. It wasn’t her strongest suit but she had her moments.
“And if by some miracle it ever happens, I hope you know you have a place here you can hide out at since my door is always open to you.” Lorna meant it, hoping he knew that. Yes, she knew he probably had plenty of options, but she wanted to give him one more.
--
“The dome does not want to piss me off, no.” While Kurt was usually an easy going sort of guy, if he was angered? It was not a pretty thing. He generally liked to get along with people, but there was only so much that he could take. And the dome taking away Raven from him, especially since he knew what was going to happen to her back home was not something that would sit well with the young man.
He leaned back against the counter, taking a bite of the pizza he’d brought over. “Well. It’s no use to worry about the dome taking away people, right? I mean. It would only interfere with the time I have with Raven and the others, right?” He offered Lorna a small smile at this.
“I will definitely come over and hide out at if I need to,” he told her. “I appreciate the fact that you’d let me do that.”
--
“I’m sure it doesn’t,” she knew the dome was going to do whatever the hell it wanted without a care, but she could hope it left him alone. Lorna was used to shit being thrown her way and while it sucked, she’d deal with it. As tough as she was there was a reason for it, but there was also a reason she had been co-leader of the Underground with John even if she still felt someone was drunk when making the decision. Losing Marcos was just one more punch to her life; however, she didn’t want Kurt or anyone to lose the people close to them.
“Pretty much so while it sucks to know the Dome can be the biggest shit show ever, you can’t let it drag you down. As much as it sucks with Marcos, I know I still have my daughter here who needs me.” It was the only thing right now keeping her from going off the deep end. That and the knives she kept throwing around when Dawn was fast asleep to work out her frustration, but that was besides the point. “You got to do the whole live each moment because it could be your last here,” she hated that saying even if to a degree she did it. Not cause of the saying, but more because she was going to do whatever the hell she wanted.
A smirk showed up on her lips, sitting back in the chair while not really touching her food at the moment. “Consider the door always open. It’s no problem. You’re a good kid plus what kind of mutant would I be if I was kicking out the good ones from around my place?” She asked in a teasing voice. “Which it was nice of you to stop by with food, but you know you don’t need to hang out here? I’m sure you have plenty of better things to be doing with your time,” she challenged with a raised eyebrow.
--
“I don’t know, Lorna,” he said, smirking slightly. “I might live a very boring life.” Okay, so maybe he did live a boring life here. But he much preferred it to his life before he had been brought to Professor Xavier’s school. Even a bit more than the life he led at the Professor’s school. It was relatively safe here, and no one really seemed to judge him for being so very different. He appreciated that about the place.
“But I suppose I shouldn’t take up any more of your time. I do have work tonight, and homework. Nothing exciting, but… it’s something that has to be done.” It was true that he didn’t have to work, Raven told him as much. Not while he was in school, anyway. But he preferred to work. At least he was making his own money, and didn’t have to rely on Raven for things.
He finished his slice of pizza, and looked toward Lorna. “Now if I hear that you didn’t eat a little bit of this pizza, I’m going to be very disappointed.” He grinned at her, he was only teasing. She could choose whether she wanted to eat it or not. He couldn’t make her do it.
--
“Hey, if you don’t care, then boring isn’t all that bad,” and it wasn’t if you were fine with the boring life. Lorna had never ever been a fan of it since boredom allowed her mind to think about ways to get into trouble. Only with Dawn, she did welcome the boring life since her daughter deserved that rather than the risk of something happening to her just because of who her parents’ were. Back home, she’d be treated differently to the outside world even before her abilities showed up just because of Marcos and her. Here, it wasn’t the same and that made this place a lot better even if it just took Marcos from them.
Lorna rolled her eyes slightly, “You’re never taking up any of my time, kid. Always welcome here even if it’s only stopping by to say hello. But yeah, go enjoy yourself and get what you need done.” At least he was doing his homework, she remembered trying to avoid it more than anything back when she was in school. Then again she never claimed to be the best student in school, which part of that was she’d rather cause trouble than anything since people were usually picking on her; however, that was in her past.
“I promise to eat some of it. Now go and stop worrying so much,” she knew he was only teasing since they both knew if she didn’t want to eat, then she wouldn’t. Though she told herself she’d tried since the kid was being nice and he did bring it over. The least she could do even if right now eating the last thing she wanted to do. “Once again thanks for coming over and visiting for a bit.”
--
"I can't help worrying. It's how I am." He offered Lorna a small smile as he spoke. "Especially about other mutants. We've gotta stick together, or something." He grinned a bit at this, and finished off his soda before deciding to head out. He didn't want to let it go to waste or anything.
And, seeing as Dawn was still asleep, he decided to teleport out of the kitchen instead of directly from outside. It was easiest for him. So within a moment, he was gone with a soft bamf sound. He wouldn't stop worrying about Lorna, but at least he'd tried to get her to eat. That was something, right?
