When the young woman jumped, Ruby instantly felt bad. The last she intended was to startle the young woman. She could understand not sensing someone coming up behind her though. If she was new, it was a lot to take in and you could easily be distracted by simply trying to find your way around this place despite how small Madison Valley was.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," Ruby replied quickly. "I should have said something sooner or made more noise." Ruby tended to be a bit light footed because of her speed and agility Semblence. It made her a bit harder to hear unless she was trying to make as much noise as possible. Sometimes, her feet didn't touch the ground for more than a second. Her training as a Huntress also contributed to her silent approach; sometimes, fighting Grim required a quieter approach than "guns blazing."
"But it's nice to meet you, Emma. And, in that case, welcome to Madison Valley." Ruby remembered what it was like to be new and she still felt like a newbie compared to people like Weiss and her Uncle who had been here for quite some time when Ruby arrived. She felt she'd caught on quickly to how this place operated at least. "I've been here for a few months now, but I still feel like a newbie compared to Uncle and my friend who have been here a lot longer." Ruby seriously hoped she wasn't babbling.
