Hope was not an easy person to reach. She made it difficult on purpose and a lot of that had to do with her past experience with allowing people close to her, even if only a minimal amount. People died around her back home; it was fact. Maybe Madison Valley was different, maybe it was everything he said it was, but Hope had yet to experience any of it. Maybe, in time, she would view this place like he did. Maybe not.
Hope folded her arms on her chest and looked at him. She knew how she responded next would form his opinion of her and if he took her as a ward. Seeing as no one else, outside of the one woman, had volunteered, Hope knew she shouldn't be pissing on the opportunity. It was just hard; sometimes, she felt like her entire life was being passed around between what relative could handle her without death occurring because of it.
"Honesty and an open mind," she replied after a moment.
