WHO: Klaus Hargreeves and Number Five
WHAT: Five met Nico
WHEN: Today
WHERE: Klaus's
WARNINGS: Talk of death, addiction
STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc
Klaus had been right in a way when he had accused Five of being addicted to the apocalypse. It had been his focus for so long, get back to his family and save them. Stop the apocalypse. But then what? The reality was he had no idea. He was older than his siblings yet in a younger body. He’d grown up alone for the most part and after joining the commission had being totally focused on getting back to his family. It hadn’t left a lot of time for much else. As such his social skills were severely lacking. But his love for his family remained. Even if he didn’t openly show it.
He’d picked up chicken wings and a selection of sides and was heading to see Klaus. Keeping an eye on his brother without him knowing may have reassured Five he was doing okay but it didn’t let Klaus know his siblings cared. To rectify that he figured dropping by with food was a good place to start. Teleporting to Klaus’s door, he knocked and waited for his brother to answer.
***
Klaus answered the door quickly, smiling when he saw both his brother and the chicken wings. He was starving. He never remembered getting so hungry when he was high. He stepped out of the way of the door and let Five come inside. He was doing better, really. His apartment was unusually clean and there was no drug paraphernalia to be found anywhere. There was no alcohol in the fridge, either.
Klaus’s face was pale, though, and his eyes were flicking around a bit nervously, although he was clearly trying to fight it. Normal people, when they detoxed, found reality and peace eventually. Klaus was just thrown into another sort of weirdness, one just as terrifying as before.
“Those smell delicious,” he said, grabbing one from the box before Five had even put them down.
***
Even Five had to admit that the apartment looked good, he was pleased to see how well Klaus was doing. In that aspect anyway. He did look a little washed out but it wasn’t an easy thing his brother was doing and Five did respect how hard it must be.
“I picked up some other bits too” he said grinning a little as Klaus ate, he was glad he’d picked up a double portion now. It was good to see him eating eagerly. “How are you feeling?” he asked as he removed the boxes from the bag and laid them out for Klaus to pick through.
***
“Not as terrible as I did a few weeks ago? Then I kept puking up everything I tried to eat. That sucked. Thank god that’s gone now.” That didn’t mean he felt great, though, because he absolutely didn’t. He wasn’t high, no, and the addiction was fading although he knew there would always be part of him that craved the drugs. No, the problem was that the spirits were back and dealing with them sober was a terrifying and horrible thing to do. He hadn’t slept well in a while because of them.
***
Five nodded, “Having an appetite is a good sign” he said, “You’re doing really well” he added because he felt it was important to let Klaus know. Five was honestly impressed that Klaus was getting clean, he seemed dedicated to it and he knew it was very hard for his brother.
“So I met someone recently who had an ability like yours” Five said, watching Klaus for his reaction. He wanted to help but he didn’t want to push.
***
Klaus slowly looked up at his brother, his expression dark and serious. “You did? Poor guy.” He grabbed another wing and took a bite of it. Honestly, that was his first and only reaction to that. He felt sorry for anyone who was stuck with powers like his. He’d have given almost anything to trade his ability with someone else’s.
***
“Normally I’d agree but he claims he can control them. Says he tells them what to do and they do it. I thought it might be worth seeing if he can help you” Five said, “I mean at the very least it can’t hurt right?”
Five hated admitting he didn’t know how something worked but nothing he’d found so far was even close to working out how to control Klaus’ ability.
***
He looked skeptical as he finished his chicken wing. “Someone out there can control this? How?” He’d tried everything, of course. He hadn’t immediately turned to drugs to escape it. After all, he’d just been a kid.
“Where’d you meet him? Who is he? Or she?”
***
“Apparently Hades was his father, so I imagine it’s some kind of inherited ability” Five explained, “But he might have some ideas we haven’t thought of yet”
He shrugged, “Just out walking, his name is Nico and he’s willing to meet you and see if he can help”
***
“Well, if it’s an inheritance thing he might not be able to help me at all.” Klaus frowned. He really didn’t think that there was anything this kid could do to help him out, but he was willing to try pretty much anything once. If it was possible to get control of it…
“Sure. I mean, why not. I’ll meet the kid.”
***
"He might not but it's worth a shot right?" Five said, even if Nico could ask the spirits what it would take for them to listen to Klaus it would help.
Five nodded, "Good" he was glad Klaus was willing.
***
“Sure,” he replied. “Sure, whatever.” He wasn’t going to let himself get too excited about it because he didn’t want to be let down, but he would say that there was a slight, slight chance that this was help, and honestly he was ready to try anything.
***
Five smiled and reached for a chicken wing himself, he wasn’t going to place all his hopes on Nico helping his brother but he had to admit he truly hoped something good would come of it. Klaus was doing so well here it would be nice to think he would be rewarded somehow.
