Susan wasn't entirely certain what had led her to check the network as she walked to work that morning, but the instant she'd seen the post, heard her sister's voice and seen her face all thoughts of archery lessons flew from her mind. She had been half frantic as she tried to find out where Lucy was, and started in half a dozen different directions before she managed to learn her true location, and immediately she had set off. The very idea of any members of her family arriving had of course been considered over the past two years, but she hadn't allowed herself to hope. Unlike her sister, Susan was far too pragmatic to fall into fantasies, even now, and she had kept her focus instead on the here and now, and on dealing with her grief. When she finally turned the corner and saw her sister, the past three years seemed to dissolve and she barely even checked for traffic before crossing the street. "Lucy!" She called out, crystal blue eyes already filling with tears as she reached her sister and didn't give her the chance to back away, wrapping her immediately in a tight hug. "It's you, it's really you," she whispered against her sister's thick honeyed hair, closing her eyes and just breathing in the very smell of her. This was a dream come true. |
