Landon wasn't a fan of public high school. Well, it wasn't the school so much as the people and the bullies. At least he hadn't gotten shoved into a locker yet. That was an improvement from Mystic Falls High. Trying to keep things peaceful like they had been so far, he'd been keeping his head down and trying to stay out of the way. He hadn't had any issues so far, people seemed to be leaving him alone and he was grateful.

The school bell had gone off for the last time today, and Landon was heading up the stairs to his locker. He was looking forward to going home and playing the new Pokemon game and was thinking much more about that than what he was doing here. Maybe he should try to make friends...but he'd never been very good at that and he wouldn't even know where to start.

So for now, he just grabbed his bag and started down the stairs again towards the door.

Kate wasn't thrilled about going back to school when she'd already graduated once, several years earlier. And it wasn't like she'd be able to go to medical school under the dome, so was there even a point? Still, it was a way to socialize and meet some people, though she was still a bit wary of making friends after what happened at home.

Slinging her backpack over her shoulder, her nose picked up an odd scent and she decided to follow it. It only took her a few minutes to locate the source, a curly haired boy who looked perfectly human though she was all too aware that looks could be deceiving. There were bits of his scent that seemed familiar, an acrid note like fire, similar to how Adam smelled, and a vague whiff of death like surrounded Jaime, but there was something else there too.

"What are you?" Kate asked, walking over and blocking the boy's path.

Blocking his path made Landon clutch his bag against him, instead of leaving it slung over his shoulder. He was sure that she was going to try to beat him up, shove him in a locker, or something like that. Whatever it was, it wasn't good.

Then he heard her question.

"What - " He cocked his head slightly, looking at her carefully. How could she tell that he was anything? It wasn't like he had it tattooed on his forehead.

"I'm..." he figured the truth was best if he wanted to get out of here in one piece. "I'm a phoenix."

	"Huh. Cool. I've never met a phoenix before," Kate said. She'd never even heard of one, other than in mythology, and was fairly certain they didn't exist in her world. If he was anything like the creature of lore though, it explained the scents she was picking up from him. She shifted her bag on her shoulder. "I'm Kate. I'm a werewolf." "That's okay," he said. "I hadn't either before I died and came back. It was kind of weird. A vampire attacked me and I died and then...whoosh, I catch fire and then next thing I know I'm wiping all these ashes off of me. I mean, it's cool, I guess, not being able to die. Useful."

He held out a hand to shake, smiling.

"My best friend, my brother really, he's a werewolf too. So cool."

Not being able to die could be useful. In Kate's world, that was reserved for vampires and they had to kill once a year to maintain their immortality. She was fine with the longer life being a werewolf would grant her since she didn't have to kill for it.

"Yeah? That's cool. Werewolves are great. You got a name?"

She figured he was just too spazzy to realize he hadn't given it.

	Spazzy...that was definitely Landon. "Oh. Right. Sorry. I'm Landon." He held out a hand a little bit awkwardly for her to shake. Not that being awkward was anything weird for Landon. It was one of the things he was particularly good at. "Freaked me out the first time I saw Rafe change. But I guess I'm used to it now. Seen weirder than that, now." 	Kate blinked in surprise. "He lets you watch?" she asked. "Or do you mean the first time you saw him in wolf form?" Her own transformation was long and painful and they never even let others wolves watch them Change. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Well, I mean...sort of the first time because he didn't know he was a werewolf and didn't know what was going on? But I mean, no, I don't watch him change. That would be a little weird, wouldn't it? I mean seeing him as a wolf. My...well...it's complicated but my sort-of-girlfriend is a tribrid, which means she's a witch and a werewolf and a vampire all in one. So she changes too. But I don't watch her change either."

Even if she had seen him come back from the dead when technically he'd never seen it himself.

	"A tribrid? How does that even happen?" Kate asked. It was something that she didn't think could exist in her world. Though she also didn't think someone could be two types of supernatural either given that Paige and Lucas's kids weren't both witch and sorcerer. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Well, her dad was the Original hybrid. Vampire and werewolf. Her mom was a werewolf. Her dad's mom was the Original witch. So...yeah, Hope is a vampire, a werewolf, and a witch. I mean, she's not technically a vampire yet because she hasn't died or anything like that. But when she does die, she'll come back as a vampire, too."

He knew it was weird, and offered her a little smile.

"My world...it's a bit weird."
