Warnings: Likely some spoilers for recent movie
Rey was tired. Tired, but happy or at least as happy as she could be considering what had happened. Her mind was still reeling from everything and she hadn't quite yet processed it entirely. She knew she would have to tell Poe and Finn eventually all the details about what happened while they fought in the air, but the words hadn't been able to surface yet. Where did she start? How did she explain Ben? She knew her silence was annoying, but she busied herself fixing various parts of the Falcon that needed to be worked on. At least BB8 didn't expect a full run through. At least the promise of telling them when they got to Tatooine seemed to placate the men and it would give her time to think of what to say, too.
She looked up from where she was in a panel under the floor of the Falcon when Poe announced they were there. So she had to tell them. She was ready as she pulled herself from the floor, wiping her hands on her hip as she headed for the cockpit. "Took you long enough." She smiled, ribbing Poe simply because she could, but Rey paused suddenly. Her forehead furrowed a little and she turned to the direction of the exit. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she tried to figure out what she was sensing. It was something she had never sensed before and it gave her a forboding feeling.

The joy of beating the First Order was overshadowed by the loss of Leia though Poe was doing his best not to let that show. They’d lost a lot during this fight, but he knew that in the end, it was the right thing and he knew his parents would be proud of him for taking up the fight. Losing Leia was like losing his mother all over again, she’d really become an important person in his life, and his primary goal now was to make her proud.
He was looking forward to visiting Tatooine with Rey and Finn. They all needed some R&R and he was still curious about what Finn had been trying to tell Rey in the midst of all the fighting. Maybe they could have a few drinks and have a conversation once they were settled. When they landed, he went in search of Rey, and grinned at the oil smudges on her cheeks. “Need to get you cleaned up,” he teased. “Finn went to find us lodging. Come on.”
As they stepped off the ship, he felt a wave of dizziness pass over him and he reached out to grab Rey in an effort to steady himself. When his vision cleared, he suddenly realized that they were not on Tatooine. In fact, once his brain caught up with what he was seeing, he knew that they weren’t even in their own galaxy. “Holy shit,” he breathed, taking in the sight of Madison Valley, a place he’d forgotten the existence of until this very moment.

Rey had a weird feeling as she followed Poe off the ship. Something was almost telling her not to go, but Finn had gone and we had been looking forward to this. What she hadn't expected was the rush she felt as she stepped off the ship. She put a hand on Poe who seemed to feel the same thing, but unlike him, she didn't know the play.
"Poe… where are we?" She looked to him after a moment of surveying their surroundings. This looked like no where she had ever been before. He had clearly expected Tatooine just like she had, but his out burst made it sound like he knew this place too.

“It’s Madison Valley,” he said, looking over at her to make she was okay now that he felt a bit steadier. “You don’t remember it?”
That didn’t surprise Poe too much. He knew that people came and went from the town, sometimes without remembering their previous visits. Luckily, he did remember, and he hoped that nowhere near as much time passed here as had at home. He’d have to find Phoebe and Leo.
***
“No… should I?” She searched her memory to try to remember a place called Madison Valley, but she couldn’t. Rey looked behind her and she tensed. “Poe, the Falcon.” It was gone. It didn’t seem possible to her. She took a few steps towards where ship would have been in case it was invisible or something. She even reached out her arm in front of her, but all there was, was air. Rey frowned. Poe seemed to know what was going on, but she definitely didn’t. She reached behind her suddenly to make sure her staff was there - it was - and she could feel her saber on her hip, but - Rey panicked for a moment and then remembered she kept Luke and Leia’s lightsabers in a small sack on her side. “What about Finn? BB-8?”
--
Poe turned and blinked. It would have been asking too much to have their ship in town. Not that he’d have been able to fly it anywhere. “You were here a while ago,” he said. “So was Finn. But people come and go all the time and don’t always remember.” How did he even begin to explain this place? “It’s confusing. We’re on a planet called Earth. They don’t have intergalactic travel. People get pulled here from all kinds of different times and places.”
It would be great if Finn was here somewhere. He’d missed his friend a lot. “BB-8 was here with me,” he said. “Probably still is, depending on how long I’ve been gone. I also have a girlfriend. Phoebe. She’s from this planet and taught me a lot about it.” Hopefully she was still here too. And Leo and Nico.
***
She tried to take all the information in stride. She had never heard of Earth, but then again, there were many planets she was unaware of, she was sure. That it was in a completely different galaxy made sense to her. She didn’t like the fact the Falcon had seeming disappeared - would it be okay?
Rey turned her head to finally look at Poe and not their surroundings. “You have a girlfriend.” Her lips quirked upwards for the first time. “Now I need to meet this Phoebe so I can see the woman able to put up with you.” She was ribbing him, of course, but at least that felt normal.
She exhaled. “Alright. So We’re on a whole new planet. Finn may or may not be here. BB-8 should be here. And you’ve been here before and remember.” Rey gave a small nod. “Alright… then. What do we do now?”
--
The jab made him roll his eyes, but it was familiar and Poe appreciated that. “Uh, I guess we head to my place,” he said. “Hopefully it’s still my place. I had a couple of kids living with me too. Leo and Nico. They’re from a world that’s messed up in different ways than ours.” He didn’t really understand the whole demi god thing, but he knew that it caused issues for the boys.
“And the welcoming committee should be by soon, to give us our welcome packages,” he said. “They have pretty nice communication devices on this planet. I can show you how it works.”
***
“I should be more surprised that you’re so calm.” She didn’t feel the need to finish the sentence. Poe was usually good at taking things in stride. “I’ll look forward to learning the device.” She always was interested in meeting the boys. She had never met someone not of their galaxy and she thought it would be interesting.
She took a couple of steps forward, not that she knew where she was going. She’d have to follow Poe’s lead here. Rey paused. “I know I have some things to tell you…” But she wasn’t sure she was ready just yet. She met his eyes, asking for silent forgiveness.
--
If Poe didn’t have memories of this place, he would be a lot less calm. He looked at Rey with some concern when she said that she had things to tell him, but nodded when she trailed off. “There’s plenty of time for us to talk,” he said. They’d all gone through a lot and he wasn’t in a big hurry to debrief.
“I should warn you though,” he added. “There are some people here from home. Or at least there were when I was here before.” He assumed they were still here. “Leia’s here, but younger. From just after the Battle of Endor.” It was going to be difficult to see her knowing that he wouldn’t at home again. “She doesn’t know much about our future.”
He took a deep breath. “Anakin is also here. And Padme. He’s pre-Vader. She was pregnant.”

Put her on a strange planet and have the Falcon appear and she can deal, but Poe's latest disclosure made Rey pause. Her hand moved almost protectively to the pouch she had without thinking about it. "Leia…" Her heart ached at the idea of seeing Leia. She didn't think she'd be able to physically see her again. The idea of Anakin Skywalker present gave her a small forboding feeling. She closed her eyes where she stood and told herself that she had been so close to going over to the darkside that she shouldn't - couldn't - fault the man. Especially since she felt him and heard his voice when the Jedis before her gave her their power and blessing.
Her eyes opened and she looked back at Poe, the worry subsiding as she compartmentalized everything. She'd spend the night trying to sort everything out in her mind. "Looks like there's a lot about this place I'm going to have to get used to…. And you were here before? When? Before we met?"
--
“When I first arrived here, it was from right after we met,” Poe said. “After Crait. I was here for about two years. Time doesn’t pass the same.” He had no idea how long it had been since he was here. “It’s possible that only a day or two passed here since I returned to our world. And I didn’t remember this place until we got here.”
As bizarre as their lives were, he knew that Madison Valley was an extra layer of weirdness that would take Rey some time to adjust to. “We’ll go to my place, find out how long I’ve been,” he said. “You can meet Phoebe, Leo, and Nico. You’ll get an apartment, but we were already looking for a bigger place, so we’ll find something big enough that you can live with us too.”

She was grateful to Poe for a lot of things in that moment which included not pushing about home, but also about being her guide here and offering for her to stay with him. What she would have done without him, she didn’t know, but she was glad not to have to navigate Madison Valley alone. “Thank you, Poe.”
