WHO Gilbert Blythe + the FitzSimmons Family WHAT Discussing some paperwork WHEN Monday evening WHERE Their house WARNINGS TBD, but probably none STATUS Closed | Incomplete
The paperwork to declare himself legally an adult in Madison Valley, without need for a guardian, had all been drawn up. Gilbert simply needed to sign it, along with a witness, before it was submitted to the courts where it would be approved within just a few business days. Mr Rashid had been incredibly helpful throughout the process in getting it all squared away, but now that he had the paperwork, Gilbert was having second thoughts. As he'd shared with Lena, he worried that his guardians would consider it an insult or a commentary on their parenting skills, when that was hardly the case. Plus, he had grown quite fond of the children and having a full house. It was much different from his time with his father at the end there, which made it distinctly different and less like he'd just experienced that loss. There was no time to dwell when children were involved.
Gilbert strove to make up for the fact that he was a burden to them, though they'd never say he was. Any extra mouth to feed was a burden, regardless of what anyone said. It was probably pretty clear to his guardians that he had something on his mind for the past few days. He appreciated that they didn't push him too much on it, though that did make him want to talk to them about it more. Finally, his worries were overshadowed by his need to share and he found them after dinner, after the kids had been put to bed.
"Could I speak with you both for a few minutes?" he asked, his hands behind his back so they wouldn't see how he wrung them together.
