Who: Nico Minoru and Samirah Al-Abbas
What: A minor mishap?
Where: Random Street
When: Friday Afternoon
Warning: Probably low
Status: Closed/Match-up/Ongoing

Lately, Nico thought things were going too well. She was happier than she had been in awhile. She liked her life here, even if she did miss her friends. But she couldn't let go of all of her pessimism. Because she was who she was, she felt like she was due for some sort of mishap.

She didn't want to be right about that, but unfortunately, her luck was about to run low. As she walked home from school, she was fiddling with one of her bracelets out of habit. This time, the latch came undone and it slid right off her wrist. She could only watch in horror as it fell right into a drainage ditch.

The bracelet in question belonged to her sister, so it had great sentimental value. That was the only reason she immediately tried to reach into the drain to grab it. She knew there were so many horror movie tropes like this that ended badly, but she didn't care. She needed that bracelet.

"Oh come on!" she cried out, nearly in tears of defeat when she couldn't find it.

If anyone was around to witness her potential meltdown, she was too upset to notice.

Samirah was on her way home from school as well. She didn't have any tutoring today and for once she was grateful for it. She felt the need to relax with tea and a good book for a while. Sure, she had homework, but she could do that sometime during the weekend easily.

As she walked, she thought about which book she wanted to pick up to read, when words carried over to her and she noticed the girl for the first time. A look of concerned washed over her as she changed direction and made her way to the girl. "Are you okay?" It was a stupid question. She didn't look okay, but it was an opening for the girl to take or not.

Nico just kind of gave up and sat there on the sidewalk in defeat. "I lost my bracelet. Went down the drain."

She recognized the other girl, having seen her around school. She seemed concerned, something Nico might have been grateful in any other circumstance. Right now, she was more frantic than anything.

"It belonged to my sister." It wasn't just some random piece of jewelry to her.

She looked at the drain with a concerned look, then crouched to try and look for it that way. She thought she could see it, but Samirah was pretty sure there was no way she could reach it. She thought about summoning her spear, but that would just poke and prod.

Samirah glanced up and around as if suddenly she'd look up and there'd be a maintenance man with the answer to the girl's problem, but there wasn't.

"Your sister's..." Her lips pressed into a frown and after a moment she sighed. "Okay." Sam looked around, hopeful no one else would see. It seemed like the coast was clear, though she knew you could never be entirely sure in a place like Madison Valley.

The valykrie concentrated and after a moment she disappeared in a small series of golden sparkles and there was a mouse where she stood. The mouse scurried into the drain. It was a bit trickier getting out of the drain as a mouse, she realized. The mouse was too small for the big lip. Once she got a hold of the bracelet, Samirah changed forms to a grey squirrel. The size was big enough to get out.

The squirrel paused, its tail twitching for a moment before there was another small flash of gold and Samirah stood holding out Nico's sister's bracelet to her. Sam looked incredibly sheepish, glancing down at the ground without many eye contact.

Nico watched the entire incident with amazement. She also, possibly out of habit from things back home, was watching out to make sure no one else was witnessing this. She knew how people in this town could react.

Once the girl was herself again, Nico was immediately appreciative. "Oh whoa. That was amazing. Seriously. That seems like a power that can come in handy."

If the other girl was sheepish, Nico wanted to make sure she wasn't at all freaked out by what happened. She, too, had power, and knew what it was like to feel a little weird about it.

"Thank you for doing that. This bracelet means a lot to me. I wouldn't have cared if it had been any other one." Was she rambling a little? Maybe, but she was truly appreciative.

She looked up when the girl thanked her and offered a more warm smile. "...You're welcome. And you're right. It can come in handy." There was a but there, but she didn't elaborate. Samirah tried to push the feelings of her father away. She wondered if he could sense her in this other world as easily as he could back home.

"I know what it's like to want to keep memories from home... especially of family. I'm glad I could help. She's not here, I take it."

Nico smiled a little at the mention of family. Even her family, as messed up as it was, was still hers. Amy was the best of them. "She's not here...and she's not at home."

Her tone shifted slightly to one a little more somber. She wasn't trying to be a downer. It was just a fact she was stating after being asked a question.

"So yeah, I thank you so much for this," she said, now much more grateful. She placed the bracelet back on her wrist. "Guess I better get this clasp looked at."

"I have a friend that might be good for that. His name is Leo. He's really good at building and fixing things. He words at motorcycle repair shop, but he also goes to school. I bet he would do that for free, too, if you asked."

Samirah smiled. She knew it wasn't exactly challenging work for Leo, but it would give him something to do.

"And... I'd appreciate if you could not mention what I can do to anyone... if that's okay."

"Oh, thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can seek him out at some point," Nico said appreciatively. "In the meantime, I'll probably leave this at home."

It would be safest there for a little while.

Regarding Samirah's request, she added, "And I won't say a word. It's not my secret to tell. But I do know other people with abilities, including myself. If you ever need to talk about things."

She would have to trust her, it seemed. Samirah nodded to the girl. "Thank you." It was hard to explain to someone how it wasn't the ability itself, but its connection to her father which gave her pause.

"My name is Samirah, by the way. I'm glad I could help." She was fortunate to walk by when she did, it seemed.

"I'm Nico," she said in response. "Seriously, it means a lot what you did."

She was being truly sincere. The bracelet wasn't just a piece of jewelry. It meant so much more to her. It was just a small way for Amy to be with her.

"Nice to finally meet you." She'd seen her around school, but the two had never spoken until now. "Thanks again."
