Alec was always grateful for the fact that he was young enough that it din't seem terribly odd for him to be around Jill all day. A large chunk of the population -- not nearly everyone, though a fair number -- knew by now that he was her Guardian, but all the same? He was still grateful to not be looking terribly inappropriate. He didn't care, exactly, it just made life overall easier.
At least he didn't have to worry about being unobtrusive at Maurice's. Well, he didn't have to worry about it in general; he was actually pretty good at that sort of thing by now. He'd spent enough time on duty with Jill for one thing. For another, it was just one of the many skills he'd picked up as a Shadowhunter. He took advantage of every opportunity he could to keep those skills sharp, even if he didn't really need to use any of them in Madison Valley, and he knew his sister was the same way.
He couldn't help noticing the young woman that Jill had just spent a good bit of time helping; she came across as the sort of person who was very aware of everything about herself. Alec envied that sort of casual confidence -- it'd taken him a very long time to become comfortable with most things about himself.
