Between her two jobs, the end of the year was the busiest time for Lydia. She’d worked hard to make sure the two parties were going off without a hitch and she’d succeeded. Really outdoing herself, if she were to say so. She’d spent her day going back and forth between the two buildings to make sure everything was right, had spent a while at one to open the party before checking in on the other and was in the middle of going back again when she’d decided she needed to check in. He’d been in touch, but he hadn’t been over and despite herself Lydia was actually starting to miss him.
Gibbs had become something of a fixture for her, someone whose presence she looked forward to having nearby, more than that when she was willing to admit to it. Not having him coming by to check on her shouldn’t be abnormal but it had gotten familiar while she’d been recuperating and she didn’t want to end the year completely without at least seeing him. Just once more and maybe she could actually make herself move on.
It wasn’t surprising to find his door unlocked, and she knew well enough by now to just let herself downstairs if he wasn’t immediately greeting her. She didn’t call him, carefully easing her way down to the basement in a dress that was very short and heels that were very tall. “I just wanted to...Gibbs?”
He wasn’t standing over anything sanding, tinkering, the way he usually was when she stopped by, and the empty bottle on his workbench was very telling.
