They'd all settled into life in Erik's house pretty easily; it helped that they all knew what it was like to lose people, to have it almost be a revolving door. He almost couldn't remember a time when they weren't fresh off the loss of one person or another. It felt like just when they'd finally started adjusting to losing one person, they'd lose another, which really only made him worry about who the next one to go would be. He'd turned into a fatalist like that.
No, not really. He'd already been more than a little bit of a fatalist. A fatalist and a pragmatist, that was a very good way to sum him up. Best way at the moment, too.
He didn't have to work and he was the only one home just then, which meant he was enjoying the chance to be absolutely lazy as all get out -- especially since he didn't have to go to work later. He worked a lot, a full 40 hour work week, and when he wasn't working? He was usually spending time with his kid. Alex had just gone down for a nap, though, which actually left him free and clear for... a little while, at least.
How long it would actually be, nobody knew.
He'd just gone into the kitchen for something when the sound of someone at the door caught his attention. He did an about-face and went to go find out who was there. "Well, well," he said with a laugh and a smile. "What brings you by?"
