"This old thing or not," Mira replied, looking at Vittoria with a slight grin, "it's a lovely costume." It wasn't unusual for girls to downplay compliments received; to the photographer's sharp eye, things that were lovely deserved to be called such. She looked like she was going to say more, when Valerie announced her intention to leave.
Concerned brown eyes followed the green fairy -- and Jasper, as he followed her, satisfied that the boy had the grace to do so. When he came back, she shook her head, mimicking the scientist's voice for volume. She had to sit up straighter to speak in his ear, low and soft. "It's the least I can do," murmured the fencer, tracing one fingertip over the rim of her cocktail glass. It sang. Crystal -- somehow that figured. "It seems like she's had some rough times." Pursing her lips, she took a sip from the drink. "Will you give me her number, later?" Apparently Jasper wasn't the only one who intended to check up on Ms. Cantwell. Careful not to carry the private conversation on for too long a period of time, Mira turned back to Vittoria.
"I can't get any of my friends to go vintage shopping with me," she mused with a light smile. Their pockets were deep and their noses lifted high in the air. "But there's something really interesting about construction and design in vintage pieces. If you go again, and find yourself looking for a companion, you should let me know."
