Appearance: Rhys has the looks of your classic black Irish. His hair is coal black and his eyes a deep green. His hair is kept rather shaggy and tends to curl around his neck while his bangs are normally in his face. Growing up doing farm work has given him a body that is well muscled. No one will be mistaking him for a beanpole any time soon. While his build might not make one think of a pole, his height would. Rhys measures up to 6’ 3” in height.
Not one to be fussy about clothing, Rhys sticks manly to jeans with t-shirts and flannel shirts. It’s not unusual for his jeans to have holes in them or his shirts to have grease stains. His rough, callused hands are usually also stained with grease that he has to work hard to get off.
Personality: Rhys is a nice guy. He’s quick to offer a smile and some help. Only thing is that the whole time Rhys’ is helping you he’s gonna be sizing you up, no not for a fight, but to try and figure out if you’re a supernatural being or not. Rhys is friendly, and he makes casual friends easily, but there’s always a nagging doubt in his mind about whether or not he can trust you.
Most of Rhys’ time is spent looking over his shoulder. He learned the hard way about the kind of beings there are in the world and he’s always on the look out, a sleep with one eye open kind of guy. It tends to make him a bit jumpy. If he does find out that you’re not 100% human or that you have some kind of ability, well, he’s very likely to freak out on you.
Should you earn Rhys’ trust then you have a loyal friend. He’ll stand up for you and back you up when needed. Will he help you move bodies? Well, that all depends on just what happened. That and the fact and he’ll probably have to take time out to freak out over there being a dead body before he can actually help come up with a plan to move the body.
Special abilities/talents: Rhys is good with anything that runs by an engine. He also has some talent with pencil, but he doesn’t spend much time doing artwork.
Supernatural Affinity: Species/Group: Human
History: Born during an Irish winter to Bridget and Patrick O’Rourke, Seamus Rhys O’Rourke was the third of five kids to be born to the couple. Once he was old enough Seamus decided that he would be called Rhys instead, even though to this day if he’s in trouble his mother calls him Seamus. In a house with five children, the O’Rourke household was never a quiet one. Mr. O’Rourke worked hard to provide for his family and even though the children had to wear hand-me-down clothes, they never wanted for much. Love was one thing they had lots of.
The O’Rourke’s owned a small farm outside of Dublin. Once the children were old enough they would help out on the farm, Rhys being no exception. Even though he had no desire to be a farmer the rest of his life, he helped out and worked hard on the farm. It was while fixing tractors around the farm that Rhys learned he had a knack for it and decided that he wanted to become a mechanic.
Life went on as life does. Rhys’ life was a normal one until he meet this girl when he was 23. He fell head over heels and thought she was the one. He couldn’t picture his life without her in it. A ring was bought and the question was popped. Now Rhys being Irish had grown up on tales of wee folk and faeries. When his girlfriend told him the truth of what she was, a sidhe faerie from the Unseelie court, he thought she was kidding. That was until she dropped her seeming and he got to see her for what she really was.
Rhys freaked out. When his lover went on to explain how things went in the Dreaming and the courts, well that didn’t help the freaking out. In fact, it made him break off things with her right there and he ran for the hills. The hills being the United States. He moved around a couple times, each time fearing that he was going to run into a faerie or some other supernatural being. When he did run into one, a vampire, he took off running again.
When he happened to hear about how cut off from the world Mysteria seemed to be, Rhys thought it would be the perfect place to find from everything he had just learned. He’ll learn sooner or later just how wrong he was.
Flaws:
Ever since that faerie ex-girlfriend told him about the Unseelie court and their queen, well Rhys hasn’t slept with the light off since. The fact that the queen of the darker faeries has some kind of power over the dark scares the crap out of him and he tends to freak out if he’s in total darkness.
Rhys wouldn’t go as far as to say he’s racist, but supernatural beings scare the crap out of him and if finds out you are one, well, he’s going to freak out. He may not be the grab a gun or stake and try to kill you type, but he is going to avoid you like plague type. Anyone not human, it’s going to take a long, long time to earn Rhys’ trust.
There’s a neon sign hanging over Rhys’ head. He has a bright presence, or aura if you will, that tends to draw people to him. This is bad for Rhys’ in many way. The chief among them is that he’s trying to avoid these supernatural beings in the first place and has no clue that he actually draws them to him. He walks into a room and the eyes of supernatural beings seemed to be drawn to him. For demons and vampires he seems to scream lunch and is at the top of the menu. Faeries, angels, and other creatures tend to find the shininess of him fascinating and tend to want to get near him.
Merits:
Rhys has a mechanical aptitude when it comes to things that run with an engine. Whether it’s fixing it up or behind the wheel, he has a thing of cars. He can take that old junky, dead car and turn it into a beauty that purrs when you raves her engine. Moreover, if you’re ever in a high-speed chase then you want Rhys to be the one behind the wheel.
That shining aura of Rhys’ does have a few perks. When he smiles it just seems to shine and tends to get what him what wants or get away with something he did. After all, who could refuse such a pure and bright smile. It works especially well on little old ladies.
