Tyson Andres Armstrong
Character Information
Name: Tyson Andres Armstrong (eventually Armitage, don't ask him to start introducing himself as that immediately though)
Nickname: Ty, Torch
Age: 17
Birthplace: Chicago, USA
Sex: Male
Occupation: Currently, thief & burglar, but I imagine Miles will be putting the kibosh on that particular career path.
Appearance: 6'2" with a leanly muscular frame and wide shoulders. Long silky dark hair with red streaks though it, dark olive skin tone, dark brown eyes. He has tattoos of flames on his wrists that lick their way up his forearms. He's a hottie in a bad-ass kind of way, definitely not the kind of guy you bring home to introduce to your parents unless you're trying to give them a heart attack.
Personality: Troubled and troublesome, Tyson Armstrong has that bad boy thing down to an art. Nihilistic in every sense of the word, from his innate cynicism to his tendency toward rule breaking, he has an insolently sardonic demeanour, which he uses to deliberately keep people at bay. I won't lie, he's a messed up kid, deeply in need of guidance. He's not all bad though - despite the fact that he'll push his boundaries, he's not the sort to pressure someone into doing something they don't want to do. Despite his bad-ass demeanour, he's an anti-bully, which is to say the only people he'll usually actively engage are bullies and drug dealers (who are, in his words, the scum sucking assholes). Mostly he'll try to ignore or deflect everyone else with insolence.
Special abilities/talents: Can lift a wallet without you realising it, is good at breaking into places he shouldn't, whether that involves scaling a building or picking a lock, can break into a car and hot-wire it within the space of a minute, has worked in a chop-shop so he's not a half-bad mechanic.
Supernatural Affinity:
Species/Group: Human / Fire Elemental
Power(s): Can manipulate the element of fire to his will
Level: 3
Affiliation/Rank: (if applicable)
Preferred Prey: Do inanimate flammable objects count as prey? Drug dealers, bullies, child molesters.
History:
Tyson was born to a single mother in a low rent neighbourhood in inner city Chicago, although to call the woman single may be misleading, as she had a seemingly ceaseless string of increasingly dodgy boyfriends. She got involved with a drug dealer who got her hooked on drugs when Tyson was 3, and things only got worse from there on out as she sunk deeper and deeper into the depraved quagmire of addiction.
Ty didn't know who his real father was until he was six years old, when he was taken away from his mother, and put into foster care, because, as he overheard his caseworker tell his foster parents, his actual blood father was indisposed, doing time for armed robbery and manslaughter. After 7 months, he was sent back to his mother who had purportedly cleaned up her act. It didn't take very long for her to get back on the drugs again though, and once again, Ty went back into the system. This cycle of going into foster care and being returned to his junkie mother continued on for the next several years. The foster homes were of varying quality, some of his guardians were people with a spare room looking to make a dime, whilst others were genuinely good people, honestly wanting to help. When he was 11, he got ripped out of a particularly good foster home and was returned to his mother, who, once again, let him down.
Understandably, the boy had developed a whole raft of anger issues by this stage, and began to act out. He didn't necessarily start fights, but it didn't take much to spark his volatile temper, and he'd sure as hell finish them.
Right around the same time, his pyrokinesis kicked into high gear, though at first he had very little control over it. He was starting to figure it out, experiment with it, when he got sprung coming out of a blaze he'd started in an abandoned building.
Ty was sent to a juvenile detention centre, where he became even tougher. He spent a lot of time in the weight room, avoiding people, because the more he avoided them, the less likely he was to get into fights with them. He also spent a lot of time reading, again, an avoidance mechanism, and also learning better control over his gift. This isn't to say the entire experience was completely without incident, of course. Juvie is just full of exactly the kind of people that trigger Ty's anger; young drug dealers and bullies.
He got into scraps with the other guys on a semi regular basis, he'd come into a room and find some of the bigger boys kicking the shit out of a smaller one and he'd take them on, and there was this one guy who somehow managed to get drugs smuggled into the complex and was dealing on the inside, getting kids hooked. When Ty found out about it, when one of the younger boys OD'd, he went kind of apeshit and attacked the dealer, with his fists at first, the injustice being that Ty was the one hauled off for disciplinary action. Meanwhile, the kid who'd O/D'd died, and Ty wanted that drug-dealer gone. Seeing the drug dealer boy flick a lit cigarette butt away, Tyson made the flame flair, setting what he believed to be an empty building ablaze. It wasn't until they heard the screams, that Ty realised his mistake, rushing in and rescuing the person trapped in the burning building. Ty came out looking like a hero. The irony is not lost on him.
Once he got out of Juvie at 14, he was put into another foster home, as his mother was still considered unfit to care for him. To all outward appearances, the foster home he was placed in seemed excellent, upper middle-class, but the family was just as bad, if not worse than living at home, with an abusive foster father that sexually abused his younger foster sister, Callie, tried to coerce Ty into doing the same, on film, and when Ty wouldn't, tried to beat up on Tyson, which didn't really work so well, considering Ty had a growth spurt in Juvie and was already pretty big, muscular, and had plenty of experience fighting. Tyson managed to set the house on fire in the process, but though he left the foster parents (both of whom were involved in making the pornography) to die in there, they were both rescued from the blaze by firefighters, which to Ty's mind is a damn shame. The fact the creep got 3rd & 4th degree burns is not.
In any case, the two kids used the distraction to escape and run away. But it was in the middle of winter, and little Callie got sick, a cold which worsened into pneumonia, resulting in her having to go to the hospital in order to recover, the government taking her back into custody. Ty moved on, staying out of custody by never staying long in one place, surviving by his wits and his skills as a thief, for a while he worked in a chop-shop, until it got shut down by the cops.
Recently, he's been in Fargo, North Dakota. He stole some stuff he shouldn't of (y'know, as opposed to stealing stuff he should) and caught some of the kind of heat he doesn't particularly like. He's come to Mysteria to lay low for a while.
Flaws:
1) Anger: He has a temper, a dangerous one, and he's well aware of the damage he can cause when it, and his pyrokinetic ability along with it, flair. He does try to control his temper, but of course he has trigger issues, so he generally finds it best to avoid people.
2) Nihilistic: As is the case with many people who have been screwed over by the system, Tyson doesn't have a great deal of respect for rules and laws. The only rules he lives by are the ones he's set for himself, and he'll chafe against anyone who tries to set rules for him.
3) Distrustful: If life has taught Ty anything, it's that the only thing people can be counted on for is letting you down. He has a hard time trusting people, and he certainly won't want to depend on anyone.
4) Reckless: It's not that he doesn't think anything can harm him, it's just that he doesn't particularly care. He's never figured that he'll have a particularly long life anyway, which lends him a kind of personal fearlessness.
5) Pessimistic: Even when things do seem to be going well, he's still just waiting for that axe to drop. It may take him years to figure out that it isn't going to.
6) Bad Boy Attitude: People often take one look at him, recognise him for trouble, and never give him a chance to be anything else.
7) Claustrophobia: Maybe it's because he's a fire elemental, and lack of oxygen smothers flames, or maybe it's because of the time he spent in the juvenile detention centre, but Ty hates being stuck in a locked room or a small enclosed space. Forget the elevator, he'll take the stairs.
Merits:
1) Streetwise: He's been living on the streets (well, usually squatted in abandoned buildings technically) for 2½ years now, so it's safe to say that in that time he's learned the ways of the street, and knows what to watch out for, what to avoid.... though that's not to say he always uses his common sense.
2) Resourceful: Growing up as he has, he's become self sufficient and proficient at solving problems, getting out of scrapes, and generally doing what he has to in order to survive.
3) Strong: Physically, Tyson's a big guy, lean & mean with muscular arms and shoulders. Not many people would particularly want to meet him in a dark ally... Actually a lot of normal people wouldn't particularly want to meet him in broad daylight. He looks intimidating, physically, especially with that bad boy persona he perpetually wears. You likely wouldn't want to mess with him either.
4) Dexterous / Agile: He's equally good at climbing to break into places, picking locks, and hot-wiring cars. Perhaps these skills could come in handy legitimately as well. Well, maybe?
Sexual Orientation: Straight
