Name: Lily Wren Nickname: N/A Age: 23 Birthplace: Salem, Oregon Sex: Female Occupation: Tarot card reader Appearance: Lily is a somewhat tall, thin young woman. She stands 5'8" and weighs 150 pounds. She has long, dish-water blond hair that she normally keeps pulled back, away from her face. She wears casual, loose fitting clothing. Her left eye is glazed over, blind to the living world. She has a few scars on her arms from the accident she and her sister were in, but they are not severe, and she tends to prefer to keep them hidden. Personality: Lily was always "the quiet one." Her older sister partied, though not dangerously, and dated, but Lily always sat back and watched. She loved her life, yes, but she was content to be an observer. She was polite, soft-spoken, but always alert. She made good grades, but she did not boast about them. Her sister was a solid B student, and Lily was always pleased with her sister's work. Although a good student, she was never socially gifted and her lack of musical or theatre talent meant she often felt that the limelight was on her sister, not her, though she grew to not mind that. Special abilities/talents: Lily certainly considers her mind her best talent, and she thinks that cross-stitching, the one thing her sister never had the patience for, is a talent.
History: Lily was part of the "average American family." Her mom and dad both worked, but they were still home enough to raise the two kids, and she and her sister had their ups and downs. They argued but they could band together when the need arose.
Lily proved rather brilliant, but she shied away from that attention, as it tended to provoke teasing from her classmates. She skipped two grades but then drastically cut down on her work, not wanting to continue advancing and be even younger than her peers. She wanted to fit in, but she never managed to do that.
When she was eighteen, Lily attended a party with her sister, Violet. Violet, only twenty, was drinking, but Lily did not, so she drove home. Her sister would not allow the music to be turned down, and the road was dark. A deer sprang in front of the car and Lily swerved, trying to avoid it. She swerved right into a tree.
The crash killed her sister and left Lily blind in one eye. Or.. at least.. Partially blind. It also, once her mind was steady enough to process what she was seeing, gave her the one ability that set her apart from everyone else she knew. Her blind eye could now see the dead. She could hear them too.
On the fifth anniversy of her sister's death, Lily decided she had to move. Where to? She pulled out a map of the US and threw a dart. It landed on North Dakota. A detailed map was gotten, and another dart thrown. Destination? Mysteria, North Dakota.
Her parents, though sorry to see her go, thought a change of scenery might be good for her. Lily wrote to them after getting to Mysteria and, with their help, rented a small shop and the room above it for business and living.
Flaws: One eye- To someone who knows of her ability, Lily would describe her vision as half-and-half. She can see the living out of her right eye and the dead out of her left. That creates a blind side for both, and she jumps when approached on the blind side, especially when touched without any warning.
Low self-image- Lily always felt like the odd man out. Her sister was two years older than she was, far prettier, in Lily's estimation anyway, very outgoing, and very talented. When Lily's intelligence allowed her to skip two grades, she was suddenly a peer of her sister, and she was seen as too smart. "Friends" often only wanted her to do their homework, and kids her own age looked at her as something close to a freak. Lily tends to think that it is better to do nothing than to try and do something and make herself look like a fool.
Loner- Because of the gap between Lily and both her academic peers, many of whom she easily surpassed, and her age group peers, Lily learned to entertain herself. Her attempts at reaching out were usually rebuffed, so she stopped trying. She doesn't dislike people. In fact, she finds people quite fascinating. However, she does prefer to be a member of the audience, rather than immersing herself in the action.
Merits: Edeitic Memory- If she sees it, she can remember it. It was this memory that allowed Lily to easily pass tests, as she could often recall the specifics, as if she had a photograph in front of her. It was the only thing that gave her a small advantage in social situations over her sister. If she saw a person once, she remembered them, and their name if she had learned it. She also used the talent to help Violet memorize a new part in the school play when she got it.
Fast learner- She was always quick to pick things up, and she proved it with cross-stitching and other hobbies. It was also part of the reason that she was drawn to tarot cards. She could remember their meanings, know what they meant in what positions, and remember spreads of cards without even trying.
Lightning calculator- Always a help in math, though she would sometimes be accused of cheating because she rarely showed her work, instead doing the figuring in her head. Of course, those accusations were quickly proven false when the girl was put into a room with a teacher, the principal, and an equation on a chalk board and she easily solved it. It was one skill that her father assured her would come in handy when it came to finances... once she had finances to manage.
