Jannika is short, that's probably the first thing that strikes most people. She's just above 5'2" but despite her short statue she's not someone to be pushed around and hides quite a bit of muscles under the hoodie that she usually wears. Or maybe that should be hoddies, she loves her hoddies and it doesn't matter if she's wearing a skirt or pants, she will find a way to make her hoddie match. She's something of a really girl-girl, preferring frilly skirts and dresses instead of pants and she has a truly intimidating collection of stockings in all patterns and colors. Actually she adores colors, strong colors when it comes to her clothes and she's an easy person to pick out of a crowd.
She has a wide variety of tattoos, having gotten her first on her 16th birthday because her parents got tired of her nagging them for it and it's an Ankh on the outside of her right ankle. After that she got her second one for her 17th birthday, a white Necronomicon mark on the ribs below her left breast. For her 18th she Seal of Astaroth on her right wrist and the Seal of Vassago on her right, also in white ink. Since then she's made two more tattoos, the Seal of Belial on the ribs below her right breast and her most recent one, a back piece of The Magical Circle of King Solomon. A token tattoo she got as protection from the demonic powers which she finds so enthralling. Despite being fairly inked Jannika has no piercings what so ever and doesn't really show off her tattoos, they were made for her and her alone after all and for this reason she tends to wear bandages wrapped around her wrist beneath the shirt of her school uniform.
She's not really overly flashy in her choices of clothes, wearing what she does because she feels like it and she feels comfortable in them more than just showing off. Jannika has always carried her hair long and has never really had that much of an urge to cut it off, though it does get in the way at times but at those times she just pins it up. Outside of school she likes dressing up but is just as likely to show up anywhere in a set of training clothes as she is in a tulle skirt and top or a flowy dress. But no matter what she wears she is always careful to match both her nails and make up with the clothing of choice.
personality Strengths: Jannie is a very good natured person, she likes people and being around them. She's always been a good and quick study, a lot thanks to her eidetic memory but also for the reason that she actually likes to learn. She's incredibly loyal to those she loves, though those people are few and far between. Smart and driven are also words that apply to her. Weaknesses: Moody, seriously moody. She's got a tendency to be violent and is prone to act out in an irrational way when angered. Can be very manipulative and isn't above using her intelligences to get what she wants. There's probably not anyone at the school that's less computer savvy than she is, in all honestly most things electronic tends to break or stop working when she handles them.
Weird Quirks: - Obsessive-compulsive reader. If she sees something with text on it she has to read it, no matter what it might be. - Wears glasses when reading to lessen the strain on her eyes. - Dislikes candy and sweets with the exception for Dark Chocolate and Marshmallows. The latter only because her father always made hot cocoa with it. - Her fingers and toes tends to get really, really cold, really fast. As such she almost always wears gloves and at least two pairs of socks, and yes this even extends to bed but there she tends to content with just one pair of socks. - When stressed she tends to just close everyone and everything out and draw, she's quite good at it too but never shows anyone the things she draws unless she really, really trusts them.
Secrets - Has a light case of kleptomania and keeps a box of stolen trinkets in the closet by her shoes. Doesn't really like the fact that she does it, but does like that she's able to get away with it. - A bit of a prude, or well more than just a bit. Will look down on anyone who displays affection publicly or dress in a non-modest fashion. - Wants nothing more than to meet someone that will sweep her off her feet and make her fall head over heels in love. This is something she will deny until the day she dies though. - Still doesn't know how to swim, despite compulsory swimming classes at school. She faked her way out of most of them and those she went to didn't go over all that well.
Likes: Sports (Football, soccer, floor ball, basketball, rugby. If you somehow use a ball then she's all over it), boxing, the occult, demonology, books, tattoos, drawing, Mesopotamia history and religion, boys, girls, learning, people, her friends and family, scaled animals (lizards and snakes), summer, dark chocolate, coffee, music.
Dislikes: Winter, winter sports, cats, oral presentations, water, being alone, rules and regulations, demands, electronics because they never work.
Even though Jannika likes being around people she's not one to speak much for herself and more rather just sit and read even with people around her. She even brings her books to parties and usually parks herself in a noisy corner with a beer, reading and watching the people go about their way around her. It makes her feel like she belongs without really having to do put her book away.
She's not above being friendly and talking to people, not at all, she's just a quiet person that doesn't really speak up much unless she has something to say. Touch one of the subjects she finds interesting though and there might be the danger of her never shutting up. She tends to be rather talkative to those she really trust and she has been known to express herself well in the written word, no matter what language.
Her love for sports comes from the fact that both her parents had always been active and she was introduced to both soccer and floor ball at a young age and during her teens soccer took a more prominent place. She's competitive and does not know when to give up, no matter if it's sports or just life itself. Stubborn, at least so her parents would say, she clings to the things she like. Even through throws of depression she'd never really given up and due to that she doesn't have much patience for people who do. She's certainly not above scoffing at people and telling them to suck it up and get over it, which sometimes might seem as a bit harsh. She's not much for other people's drama or whining and she's certainly not above letting them know that they're being a bother.
history Family Residence: Stockholm, Sweden. Languages: Fluient in Swedish and English, knows some French and Hausa. Can read and write in Latin but doesn't speak it. Father: Johan Eklund Mother: Maria Björkstrand Siblings: None. Other Family: Aunt Kim and her paternal grandparents, Bo and Tina. All residing in the area around Gothenburg.
[detailed history] Johan and Maria were an average couple that after a long time of trying and failing to have kids decided to adopt, it wasn't an painless ordeal and the first time they saw Jannika she was only a couple of weeks old. They traveled to Nigeria shortly afterwards to finalize the whole thing, only to be stopped at the border and denied entry into the country. It took countless hours with government officials and more money than the pair really had and still it wasn't until the summer of 93 that they finally got their daughter home.
Jannika was two and a half at the time and she has no recollection of her biological parents or her time in foster care in Nigeria. Johan and Maria are the only family she knows, and she's rather content with that and has never tried to find her biological parents. It took a while before she adapted to the completely different culture and the weather in particular and Johan and Maria never wasted any time before they started spoiling her and slowly shaping her into the person she would become.
With Johan not having an employment he was the one that ended up more or less raising Jannika as Maria was the one working extra hours to make the ends meet for their little family. As such Jannika has taken after her father a lot, sharing both his love for books and sports as he was never late to bring her to the library or to various sports events.
By the time she started school she could both read and write, but her vocal skills were severely undeveloped and as such she got teased a lot and that made her withdraw, hiding behind books and secluding herself from the other kids in her class. By the time she reached third grade and they started learning English, she still wasn't comfortable in speaking and when she did it was usually in a hushed voice. But her teachers could clearly see that the girl was bright, quickly learning the new things she was shown and even if she didn't speak she had a good comprehension of most things around her.
Because of this, she was always a bit of an outsider and never really fit in anywhere until she took up sports which it showed she had a talent for. Soccer mainly was the thing that she fell in love with much to her parents happiness since they as well had been soccer players in the past, as they were growing up. Sports allowed Jannika to evolve her social skills more and by the time she reached her teens she wasn't the shy little outcast anymore. She had her group of friends, at school and outside.
Her love for the occult though, runs somewhat parallel with her love for sports, during a trip to the library in middle school she wandered in the area of books that were about the occult and the paranormal. And grabbing a book there she sneaked off into a corner, curled up and started reading. The subject at hand, ghosts, demons and witchcraft enthralled her and she started spending more of her free time reading about it, gobbing down every books she could get her hand on and soon after she turned to the Internet and the information she could get from there. She wasn't older than ten when she tried her first spell, only to have nothing happen. Though it didn't deter her and instead it sent her deeper, made her even more keen to find out more.
When at age twelve Jannika was invited to attend Idris both she and her family at first thought it was some kind of a strange joke, but after some consideration it was decided that after she had finished her 6th year, rather than to move onto the next set of grades she would instead attend Idris and so at age 14 she left home, both excited and terrified of going to Greenland.
At first she didn't really feel like she fit in among the rest, the only thing she had in common with a few was her fascination for the occult, magic and demonology and it wasn't really until her second year at the school that her powers started manifesting, the small spells and incantations she had always done started actually working. She managed to summon physical beings, binding and then banish them. Everything she had always known i her heart to be real, suddenly was and within her grasp as well. It filled her with a sort of dreadful hope as she started contemplating just what she could do with her new found powers.
Writing Samples First person journal entry [Private] Skyltsöndag always makes me wish I was back home again. Mom called to ask if there was something specific I wanted from when they were going out among the crowds tomorrow. It's times like this I miss that dreadful, gloomy town. Or maybe it's just, sitting by a window with a big cup of hot cocoa, talking with them until the wee hours of the morning.
Why do I keep getting so damn nostalgic around this time? [/private]
Does anyone have any marshmallows? I've reached a point where I'd just about give an arm and a leg for it.
Third person RP sample Jannika chomped down on the pen and leaning back in her seat she pulled a hairband from her wrist, tying her hair back and pushing an rather persistent curl behind her ear before she looked down at the once clean piece of paper. Another article for the sports section filled with red notes, crossed out parts, arrows and tags like 'insert picture here'. It was moments like these that she really wondered what she'd been thinking when decided that being an editor was a good idea.
It was fun, yeah but it drove her to the brink and back some times and now was one of those times. The weather and cold was getting to her and she wanted nothing more than to just curl up and sleep, but she couldn't. Didn't stop her from throwing a longing glance at the bed though and with a sigh she put the pen down and chugged down what was left in her water bottle.
Grabbing a new article she started reading through it, once more setting to marking out parts left and right. She was so caught up in mutter to herself that when the phoen rang it startled her more than she would have liked to admit.
"I'm working." She froze and a big grin spread on her face as she heard her mother's voice. "Nejdå det är igen fara. Jag har alltid tid för dig, vet du väl."* She leaned back in her seat again, this time grinning. Few things managed to get her in a better mood on days like this than hearing from her loved ones.
