Family Fest: "We Are Family... and Homicide Isn't an Option"

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: We Are Family... and Homicide Isn't an Option
By: McKay
Rated: PG13 for strong language and adult situations
Warning: cross-dressing and lots of it
Summary: Remus is the owner of a successful drag club whose long-term partner, Severus, is also the star diva of the club. Their lives are peaceful and happy until Remus' son, Ted, comes home to make a request: play it straight for his potential in-laws.
Notes: Non-magical AU. Written for the 2008 Family Fest. There were two prompts that requested stories based on The Bird Cage/La Cage aux Folles; this story doesn't quite fit either of them, but is more like a mixture of both.
Word count: ~14,500

Severus is not beautiful as a woman. No, even though I see him through rose-tinted glasses, I still can't say he's beautiful. But striking? Oh, yes. Even his detractors can't deny that even as they make disparaging remarks about his resemblance to Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams. As a woman, he's tall and willowy like a runway model or an Erté drawing. Even as a man, he cuts an androgynous figure: narrow shoulders, lean build, long hair, slender hands with long and graceful fingers, a beakish nose set in features that grow more angular with age.

Fic: Family Attributes

Title: Family Attributes
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1350
Disclaimer: Not mine. . .well, the fic is.
Notes:  Written for the Fest prompt, where Remus and Severus have to write responses to "What is a family?" in Muggle Studies class.  They're older than I suppose they ought to be, and still be taking Muggle Studies.

Family Fest: Geri-chan's parenting fic recs

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

For Meta Month last November I wrote an essay on why I like stories where Snape and Lupin adopt a child. I thought it would also tie in nicely with the ongoing Family Fest. I won't repeat the entire essay, although you're welcome to click on the link and read it, but I thought that I'll go ahead and post my list of adoption recs here, expanded to include a couple of new recs and some Teddy fic and art.

The Ides of March brings us Family Fest!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

FAMILY FEST IS NOW OPEN!

Behind the cut-tag are the (many, many) prompts for our Family Fest. The only real rule for this fest is that stories and art are due by April 30. Fiction of any length and art of any quality are welcome. Thematic lists around family stories and art, essays, photomanips, icons and any other creative pursuits around Snupin and Family that you can think of are welcome as well.

Let me be very clear about the prompts - they are for inspiration alone; prompters will never be revealed. Thus:
  • There is no claiming.

  • You can combine prompts.

  • You don't have to use any of these prompts to post something for the fest.

  • There is no obligation to write every part of a prompt. You can pick and choose from what is written in the longer prompts.

  • Prompts marked as art prompts can be used for fics. Prompts not marked as art can still be used for art. I tried to mark the obvious art prompts, but I didn't catch them all or might have mistakenly marked a fic prompt as art. Don't let labels keep you from being inspired. ^_^

It's a very long list, and if you want to discuss the prompts in comments, go ahead. I ask that those who wrote the prompts not reveal themselves unless a creator specifically asks for you. Anonymous replies directly to questions will make sure your answers get to creators without revealing who you are. We have several fests coming up this year, and I ask that everyone respect the fact that family Fest is not meant to put pressure on creators by making them aware that they are writing someone's specific prompt. If you have to get in a late prompt, you can make an anonymous post here and I will unscreen it.

Super-Huge Family Fest Prompt List )

And that's it! If you have any questions, please leave a reply here or use the community email. I hope everyone will have fun with this fest!

Mod Post: Family Fest!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Ok, need to make this quick - Through March and into April, we're holding a Family Fest (Fantasy Fest will be back this summer).

Family Fest is designed to inspire creators to produce pieces involving family - be it children (adoptive or otherwise), parents, uncles, aunts, long-lost brothers or sisters, surprise relations (DDore is Snape's cousin?), etc. The idea is to dig in and really explore the relationships Snape and Lupin can have with others as well as their own relationship.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. I have screened comments on this post. Unlike the Fantasy fest, Family Fest is meant for pure inspiration and a celebration of family-based creations. If you have any ideas for Family Fest, please reply. I'll compile a list and post it next week for creators to use as inspiration. Your ideas, however, must be given freely; there is not going to be a reveal of who gave what idea. There's been plenty of giftings and exchanges lately, and this time, I thought it would be nice if creators could work without the added pressure of tailoring a gift. To that end, your prompts can be simple, such as "Snape has a brother" or "Remus' mother wants to meet Severus."

So, please reply with as many ideas as you like, or as often as you have ideas. Comments are screened, only moderators will be able to see them. Next week, I'll put up the list of prompts and the creators will be able to use the list for as much or as little inspiration as they like!

Thanks everyone, and sorry this was so rushed, but even with a whole extra day in the year, there's never enough time. *wink* Happy Leap Year - I hope you all do something exciting today!
