Drabble: The Apple Incident (SS/RL, PG)
Title: The Apple Incident
Pairing: Severus Snape/Remus Lupin
Wordcount:
Rating: PG
Summary: Some things are worth fighting for.
"The satisfying thing about our house was, that we were raised to not mindlessly cling to beliefs and traditions," says Severus in his best instructor-voice.
He can be so righteous at times, indignant and infuriating, and Remus' wand hand is itching.
"Faith and beliefs are for Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs, who need a framework of set rules to understand the world."
"You are being unfair," Remus replies in his calm, soothing voice, that he knows drives Severus insane, always does. "The world doesn't consist of mindless chaos, where nothing repeats itself. There are recognisable patterns and hence therefore, you have, the necessitiy of rules. Mostly when you drop an apple, it will fall to the ground. That is not a rule made up by scared, witless minds, but by observant scientists."
"And then there are times when apples don't fall to the ground," Severus says smugly, draws his wand and levitates an apple from the fruit basket in front of Remus' face. "Reiterating someone else's observations will keep you from gaining new insights."
Remus, too, draws his wand, pulls the apple towards himself and takes a bite. "You're being an insufferable prat," he growls. "And you are trying to bait me–but I mean what I say: No means NO, Severus."
"Knock it off you two," Teddy calls from the living room. "Dad, please let uncle Severus add more brown sugar to the apple pie filling! Remember what we agreed last Christmas? What happened to "Hear The Other Side"? Or to "Put yourself into the shoes of the other"? Or just pull up a Silencing Charm. If I have to listen to your debate any longer, I'll AK myself."
"One table spoon," says Severus. "It just needs one more table spoon."
"Half," Remus concedes. "You can put in half a table spoon and not a grain more. No funny moves. I'll be watching you."
