Hum. Shouldn't more people have commented on this by now? I hope you've cross-posted it to LJ!
Ok, So! First, I had to go read the original story, which was heartbreaking and breathless and winning all at the same time. I love hurt/comfort, but knowing what they did to Severus lessened the enjoyment of H/C. Which I think is the right way to feel. I'm not willing to see any character torn apart just so I can enjoy my H/C. But, as Severus was torn apart, the care he was given after was perfectly button-pushing. I also really liked being in Remus' head.
Then this story was like a reward for having endured the harrowing first story. You wrote Sirius so well - he made me uncomfortable, which I think was the point, only wanting to shag Severus, seeing him as an object. I like that you made Severus human, that he was visually stimulated by Sirius, but his heart belonged to Remus. Sirius was never going to win Severus over, and I'm glad he realized it by the end.
Normally, I don't mind a lusty Sirius getting in on the Remus/Severus action, but in this case, you made the perfect ending by leaving Sirius on the outside. In the end, I liked Sirius again because he was smart enough to know not to go messing around with love.
And now, I'm not sure how much profuse thanks I can heap on you to let you know how very much I appreciate this gift. I think Snapealina said in another one of my gift posts that I tend to go slow and savour the gifts, and she's right. I'm always deeply moved when people create works for me, and they deserve more than a dashed-off "Thanks"! All this to say, I hope you don't mind my late reply. I saved the longest fic for last and was well rewarded by getting to catch up on two stories.
Thank you. I know how much effort it takes me to write, so I really appreciate you taking the time and thought for me. I'm honored and will try to continue to deserve such honors from such good friends. *SMUSHES A LOT*
