Vanilla
Remus began to laugh. "How is this even a question?"
"Not everyone is a complete chocolate addict, Remus."
"I know that, but vanilla?" Remus stared at the screen in disbelief. "Chocolate or vanilla? I don't even understand why this question is on here."
"It's a bloody Internet meme, Remus. None of these questions make sense."
"But who would choose vanilla over chocolate?" Remus muttered.
"Just write chocolate then and move on to the next stupid question," Severus sighed.
"Vanilla?" Remus said. "Really?"
"Will you please move on, Remus. I don't want to waste an entire day on this." Severus scrolled down and read the next question. "Zombies or robots? Holy mother of Salazar, what is this nonsense?"
"Vanilla," Remus mumbled and shook his head.
"Seriously, Lupin," Severus said. "Let it go!"
"No, I can't," said Remus, "who would be so crazy to choose vanilla over chocolate?"
"I would," Severus answered, making Remus gasp.
"What?"
"I would prefer vanilla ice cream over chocolate ice cream."
Remus didn't believe it. "But Severus, it's chocolate! And I thought I knew you."
Remus left the room with his head hung low, and Severus knew he was going to drown his disappointment in a cup of hot chocolate. Severus sighed and followed his partner into the kitchen to avert a domestic crisis. Remus was such a drama queen when it came to his precious chocolate.
"Severus, please … !"
"Severus, please." Remus looked at him with begging eyes.
Oh, how Severus hated those words.
He knew that Remus didn't know the words affected him that much, and to everyone else it was just another common phrase, but Severus' heart froze every time the words escaped Remus' lips.
Severus wished he could go through life without hearing those words again. Without picture him on his knees, begging him to end it. Begging him to save the Malfoy boy, to save him, to save everyone. But how could he tell Remus? How could he tell his partner that these two simple words tore his heart out when Remus never meant them too. It was Remus saying the words, not Albus. Why was he reacting this way?
Severus looked at his lover and saw that the man was about to utter the phrase yet again.
"Of course we can go," he mumbled before Remus had the chance to speak.
It was easier to just agree to Remus' crazy ideas. At least for now.
