Family Fest: "We Are Family... and Homicide Isn't an Option"
Title: We Are Family... and Homicide Isn't an Option
By: McKay
Rated: PG13 for strong language and adult situations
Warning: cross-dressing and lots of it
Summary: Remus is the owner of a successful drag club whose long-term partner, Severus, is also the star diva of the club. Their lives are peaceful and happy until Remus' son, Ted, comes home to make a request: play it straight for his potential in-laws.
Notes: Non-magical AU. Written for the 2008 Family Fest. There were two prompts that requested stories based on The Bird Cage/La Cage aux Folles; this story doesn't quite fit either of them, but is more like a mixture of both.
Word count: ~14,500
Severus is not beautiful as a woman. No, even though I see him through rose-tinted glasses, I still can't say he's beautiful. But striking? Oh, yes. Even his detractors can't deny that even as they make disparaging remarks about his resemblance to Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams. As a woman, he's tall and willowy like a runway model or an Erté drawing. Even as a man, he cuts an androgynous figure: narrow shoulders, lean build, long hair, slender hands with long and graceful fingers, a beakish nose set in features that grow more angular with age.
