Behind the cut-tag are the (many, many) prompts for our Family Fest. The only real rule for this fest is that stories and art are due by April 30. Fiction of any length and art of any quality are welcome. Thematic lists around family stories and art, essays, photomanips, icons and any other creative pursuits around Snupin and Family that you can think of are welcome as well.
Let me be very clear about the prompts - they are for inspiration alone; prompters will never be revealed. Thus:
There is no claiming.
You can combine prompts.
You don't have to use any of these prompts to post something for the fest.
There is no obligation to write every part of a prompt. You can pick and choose from what is written in the longer prompts.
Prompts marked as art prompts can be used for fics. Prompts not marked as art can still be used for art. I tried to mark the obvious art prompts, but I didn't catch them all or might have mistakenly marked a fic prompt as art. Don't let labels keep you from being inspired. ^_^
It's a very long list, and if you want to discuss the prompts in comments, go ahead. I ask that those who wrote the prompts not reveal themselves unless a creator specifically asks for you. Anonymous replies directly to questions will make sure your answers get to creators without revealing who you are. We have several fests coming up this year, and I ask that everyone respect the fact that family Fest is not meant to put pressure on creators by making them aware that they are writing someone's specific prompt. If you have to get in a late prompt, you can make an anonymous post here and I will unscreen it.

Snape, Teddy and remus are in the mall when they get separated by the crowd. Snape and Teddy are alone, and the child NEEDS to go to the bathroom like, immediately. And he's dressed with overalls.
Snape tries to take kid to have a picture with Easter Bunny but kid is scared. Snape's only doing it cause it'll make Remus happy.
Kid draws a picture of the family, picturing Snape as the woman. Gender reaffirmations ensues!
Lupin and Tonks don't die (Snape never did, of course). Tonks was under spell/pressure to marry Lupin while Lupin was being his pushover self. Lupin & Snape hook up but Snape has resentment towards Tonks and this causes problems when Teddy's older.
Snape has to give Teddy detention.
For the Mpreg lovers out there - typical older-kid jealousy when one of the dads gets pregnant.
Due to a night of drunken debauchery (mainly cause Snape was lonely/desperate, didn't expect to survive the war) after the war he finds out he has a kid from a now-slain DE. How does he and Lupin cope? (optional Teddy in the picture)

Art Prompt: Teddy scampering around naked in the garden trying to escape his parents, who are trying to catch him to dress him properly.
Snape had a child by a Muggle woman when he was young. The birth of his halfblood child was what sent Severus to Dumbledore; Snape sent them out of the country with Dumbledore none the wiser, and has protected them at all costs. The Muggle mother died, but the child was able to stay with a foster family, before attending a wizarding school (not Hogwarts). After the war (and Snape's survival, of course), Snape brings his child (a young adult by this point) home to England to the shock of everyone, particularly Remus Lupin.

The trials and tribulations of legalizing custody and inheritance when you are a homosexual couple adopting children in the Wizarding World.
There comes a time in every father's life when his child asks difficult questions...
"Grandfather" Severus and "Granddad" Remus drive their children crazy by plotting with the grandkids.
The British Wizarding world is small, and many families are related to one another. When Severus is made executor of his mother's will, he discovers some surprising family ties...
Remus and Severus disagree over some point of parenting.
Remus discovers that becoming a part of a pack during the war has long-term repercussions, creating ties of family obligation between him and other werewolves.

Severus wants Teddy to attend a weekend retreat with him. Remus wants Teddy to visit the British Museum. Teddy wants to play in the apple orchard behind their home. Notes and blackmail attempts.
Severus' uncle, Barbabas Prince, has some back from Wales. He's visiting the only relatives he has, and he's testing them. How long can Severus keep his temper, Remus keep his cool, and their twins keep out of trouble.
Teddy's learning to fly like Papa Snape. Harry Potter thinks he's being turned to the Dark side of Magic. Remus is torn between his adopted godson (Harry) and his family. Teddy--with wisdom out of the mouths of babes--will save the day.
Severus has spent three years wooing and, hopefully winning, Remus' regard. He's come to Harry Potter and his lover for help in planning the proposal. He'll find out how much he means to those Remus holds dear and he'll be surprised at who defends him and who vilifies him.
Remus Lupin is a lone wolf; he needs no one, he wants no one--except for sex--and he's fine alone. Draco Malfoy has watched his beloved godfather, Severus, pining for just one glance from Remus, one kind word. Lucius, Draco and Narcissa find a way to give Severus what he wants, but will it be love?
Sirius Black came back from Beyond the Veil. He's mute, but still he's trying to get Severus and Remus together. With some help from Luna Lovegood, Draco Malfoy, Hermione Granger-Weasley and Harry Potter (Remus' godson in the Marauder-way), he will. If Minerva McGonagall (Severus' not-quite-godmother) doesn't louse it up for all of them!
Remus has a cousin...who tries to steal Severus away.
The picture was fading, the background pale and misty, but, the two men in it were still smiling and waving, hands proudly showing off their rings.

One day there's a new child at Teddy's Muggle daycare; she's small, dark-haired and oddly familiar to Remus. Who's child is it?
Surrogate motherS (gotta stress the plural).
Diaper rash.
First came the baby.
International cousins.
"I grew up in a big family."

Mpreg with Remus as the pregnant one.
After the War Remus goes back to live with his parents.
An old, cranky uncle of Snape's comes to stay a few days.
Severus and Remus have a child (with each other, therefore, mpreg). They both are totally besotted, but no one is willing to tell them it's an ugly little blighter.
Remus has a twin brother (Romulus) - still born, or maybe he's non-magical.
Severus and Sirius were close cousins and grew up knowing each other. This plays into their relationship with, and squabbles over, Remus. The thing is, the Prince family is much more prestigious; Eileen was a black sheep...
Remus, thinking Severus is dead, moves into a house near a family called Prince, and is startled to meet a teenager who looks familiar - like two of his greatest friends, and greatest regrets, in one.
James Potter is Severus' second cousin once removed.
Remus has a daughter from a past relationship that is sent to him.
Severus takes Remus to have dinner with his mother...Irma Pince. (Eileen changed her name and is in hiding)
After all that's happened, biological bloodlines seem less important than family. And Severus has never believed that being related by blood guarantees affection. (Remus and Severus adopt a child.)
"We Are Family," at least, by choice. La Cage aux Folles/The Birdcage: Remus manages a drag club and Severus s the lead diva. Harry, having been raised by Remus and Severus after the Potters died, falls in love with the daughter of an aspiring politician who has based his career on opposition to "decadent lifestyle choices."
The Birdcage, Snupin style, with Teddy as the clueless son who asks his father to pretend to be straight for a weekend. Bonus if his fiancee is Victoire Weasley, and Severus not only has to pretend to be female, but a non-Snape female.
Meet the parents, especially those presumed dead.
Snape and Lupin move in together. One discovers that the other has some unusual yearly ritual: visiting a grave, celebrating a holiday in a unique way, eating certain foods at certain times, etc. etc.
Teddy Lupin wants to know why he can't have a baby brother or sister. Can either be resolved through adoption, Teddy being told he can't always get what he wants, or Severus taking the plunge and somehow getting pregnant.
Remus wants a family, badly. He finds out about a new, highly experimental treatment that allows a man to have a child and does his best to talk Severus into it despite the possible risk.
At least one set of relatives shows up during holiday season and wreaks havoc on the couple's cozy, settled life.
Remus' last remaining parent dies and he is named executor of the will.
Severus' father had children from another marriage or relationship. They show up to meet their long-lost brother at last, and are not prepared to find that he's homosexual.
Snape and Lupin lose a child (due to m/c or your choice) but within weeks find out that Snape fathered a child years ago. They gain custody of the child (mother death, etc.) How does their family life change with their loss and addition?
Snape needs to adopt an heir, either in an AU where he's a pureblood, or to carry on the Prince name, for those who prefer to stick to canon.
Snape and Lupin adopt an orphaned Death Eater's child.
Snape and Lupin adopt a werewolf child.
Severus and Remus are already raising Teddy together and discover that Severus has a daughter he never knew about. (By one of the DE's perhaps, or one of the minor Order members like Hetia.) How does their little family handle this adjustment?
Severus and Remus are already raising Teddy together and decide to have another child (adoption, mpreg, surrogate mother, an arrangement with Hermione).
Utterly AU RL/HG/SS triad. Not just a one-time threesome, but living together as a family, with or without any kids.
Andromeda Tonks is still furious with Remus for abandoning her daughter, even more since he somehow survived the war and she didn't. She doesn't want to let him have any access to Teddy. Remus is desperate to have some part in his son's life. Severus would just as soon have Remus to himself, but can't bear to see him so unhappy.
Tobias wasn't just an abusive bastard, he was a philanderer. Severus finds out he has a Muggle half-sister.
Telling Remus' parents about their relationship.
Telling Eileen (who might or might not be Irma Pince) about their relationship.
Taking care of Eileen or one of Remus' parents when they become old and ill, and what effect that has on Severus' and Remus' relationship.
Remus and Severus find out that they might be closely related... kissing cousins? Remus and Severus start going through their family trees and come up with some interesting questions.
Snape and Remus ask Lily to a surrogate for them. She is impregnated with each of their sperms (maybe through magic they can get a set of twins with each sperm and lily's eggs?) How does each partner interact with Lily? With each other as their baby grows? Throw in James, Sirius and Peter for fun.
Remus' family is rich and Remus has chosen his life of poverty. Remus is injured or gets sick, prompting Severus to write to his family, and is surprised at the people who show up. Remus should have a sister with whom he has secretly corresponded for all the years of this estrangement.
Greyback is related to Remus and lycanthropy runs in the Lupin family. Teddy develops symptoms of lycanthropy and Remus, desperate, runs to Severus for help.
Grandmother Snape is still alive... and she remembers Lupin's grandad very well from schooldays.
Lupin's dad comes to visit. He now lives in Brighton as a nightclub owner and calls himself Marlene.
Snape has Lupin's child. Narcissa/Lucius wants to meet him/her. Lupin does not approve.

Stories/art about home improvement/renovation projects and the tension they invoke.
Headmaster Snape's daughter is coming to Hogwarts.
Due to a very odd series of events, Professor Snape is going to have triplets. He's also going to kill Lupin. If his cousins don't get him first.
After everybody shuns them for being together, Severus and Remus have decided the two of them are the only family they'll both ever need. But then Remus unexpectedly becomes pregnant (Wolfsbane side effect?), and they find out that not everyone is as opposed to them as they say they are (i.e. Draco actually likes the thought of his godfather and his secretly favourite professor together and he's excited by them having a baby, Harry is quite uncomfortable with Severus, but loves Remus regardless and is happy to be part of his family, Minerva doesn't care either way, as long as she gets to keep betting on Quidditch matches with Severus, etc.).
Severus wants to ask Remus' father permission for Remus' hand in marriage.
Severus has only one family member left, his niece (approx. 25 y.o. who lives in Germany). He loves her to bits and spoils her rotten, but Remus can't stand her.
Harry's found love with Draco and he decides that his semi-godfather Remus should find love too, so he decides to set him up. After a few botched matches, Draco suggests they match him with Severus, because he's been lonely too (though only Draco notices). They gather up everyone they know to help them match the two together.
Teddy Lupin, 11, who's mother died during battle and who's halfway through his first year at Hogwarts, wants Severus Snape to be his other father.
After Remus and Severus acquire a baby, Mrs. Lupin shows up to help out and stays. And stays. And stays. And stays.
Severus gets an invitation to a family wedding...from the Muggle side of the family, who would not necessarily welcome him bringing a male date.
Tobias Snape is alive and well and has found Jesus, and wishes to share this glorious news with his son and his "friend."
Severus did not know that his father had a child by a second marriage until his younger sibling shows up at Hogwarts.
Eileen Snape is alive. So is her mother, Eleanora. Between them, they rescued Severus but he is unhappy. Eileen and Eleanora set out to find out why Severus is so sad, who is he is missing, and what they can do to fix it.
Remus and Severus are turned into toddlers and someone has to raise them.

Remus doesn't cook much but when he does, it's an adventure in the Lupin-Snape household.
Timeturners and Severus' namesake (Albus Severus) combine to push Severus Snape towards romance with Remus Lupin...with a little help from Teddy Lupin and Andromeda Tonks.
Neville Longbottom only had his Gram...or did he? When Cousin Severus Snape shows up at their door with Remus Lupin, just how will Neville react?
Minerva McGonagall gave up a baby boy in her youth; her family made her do it. Now, she's found out one of the young professors at Hogwarts is her boy. She sets out to get to know Remus and his lover, but not without a few bumps along the way.
Nigellus Phineas Black was a popular man...especially with Eileen Prince. He guides Remus Lupin's romance from his portrait as they both try to make peace with Severus.
The Bloody Baron was once a warrior wizard like any other. When his descendant first came to Hogwarts as a child he felt the pull of blood; when he returned as a man, he finally recognized him for family. How will the taciturn Slytherin House ghost get his descendant's attention, especially when he's wooing a Slytherin Potions master?
As part of his parole after the War, Severus is researching a blood magic charm that will restore Neville Longbottom's memories and magic. To his horror, he learns that Neville's father is really Remus Lupin.
Post-War AU: Tonks survived, but in a coma that continues for years. Remus and Severus are living together and raising Teddy when she wakes up.
Andromeda Tonks invokes an ancient pureblood law to strip Remus of custody of his son on the grounds of immorality since he is living with Severus Snape in a blatant and open homosexual relationship.
Severus, Remus, and their child (your choice as to identity and means of procurement) go to a Pride March. Where they run into one or more male Weasleys and their disapproving mum.
Remus and Severus are living together, and Severus has developed a potion to let him carry a child because Teddy begged so hard for a baby brother or sister. They're all quite happy until Remus' mother announces her intention to visit...and Severus learns that Remus never quite found a way to tell her that his second "wife" was a man...
Severus turns up after the War. He manages to win a temporary reprieve because he's carrying Remus' child, but unless Remus can find hard evidence that he was working for the Light, he'll receive the Kiss anyway because "he won't need a mind to incubate."
Andromeda is furious at her daughter's memory being "sullied" by Remus' relationship with Severus, and wreaks revenge.
Remus' twin brother, Romulus, shows up with tickets to his show: "Romy's All-Male Revue, Featuring the Divine Mavis!!!!"
Eileen doesn't approve of Severus' relationship because Remus is a man. Or because Remus is a werewolf.
Remus has a cousin who is a Muggle chemist. He and Severus exchange letters.
Remus and Severus are raising Teddy together and eventually they realize they want another child, but argue about how to make that happen.
Merging households turns out to be difficult because each of them has expectations based on family traditions (e.g., reading the whole paper on Sundays or spending Christmas eve taking a long walk, etc) that they've never really thought very hard about. They discuss those traditions and what they mean (and perhaps what ones they want to pass down to their children).
Severus suffers severe memory loss as a result of events of the war, and Remus, in attempting to care for him, goes looking for family stories to try to remind him/help him recover.
Remus wants a child. Severus doesn't, but they have one anyway. To everyone's surprise, Severus is a natural at it, and their child goes to Severus more often, which makes Remus a little jealous.
Remus wants a child. Severus doesn't, and they decide their relationship is more important to them than having children. However, they still end up with an unexpected foster-child....
Remus has a slightly eccentric great-aunt on the Muggle side (who doesn't know about the wizarding world) who is pretty sure there is something funny about the two of them. She keeps nosing around in ways that are interruptive of their private life.
Snape was married and had a child. He had been forced to be married by a family arranged marriage that he had to enter into by his 37th year or forfeit his inheritance. He married her fairly young really but never consummated the marriage. Neither of them even LIKED each other and Snape is gay. He had to consummate though and 'start a family by age 37. (37 was an odd number that his family chose supposedly some sort of lucky number or something along those lines). Snape's wife died in childbirth shortly after the end of the war. He and Lupin become friendly somehow and Lupin helps Snape cope with trying to care for a baby. Something Snape hasn't really got the patience for.
There's a gap in Severus' memories, obviously put there by Dark magic. He goes to Remus for help, and learns that he was used as a "breeder" by Voldemort in an effort to "improve the breed" by impregnating pureblood women in Europe, where purebloods were becoming far too inbred to survive. Viktor Krum is only one of Snape's children, most of whom are less than pleased to find out their father's identity....
Marauders Era: Snape is viciously jealous of the 'brotherly' closeness Remus has with the other Marauders, because S was an only child.
DH-compliant: Teddy somehow discovers that his dad and Snape had been lovers (at some point in the past, doesn't matter when) - and is not okay with it.
AU-from-DH (Remus and Snape live, Tonks dies): Andromeda fights for custody of Teddy, claiming that as a werewolf, Remus is an unfit parent. Snupin relationship somehow, and Snape sides with Andromeda.
AU-from-DH (Remus and Snape live, Tonks dies): Snupin relationship from years ago resumes after Tonks dies, but there's the problem of Teddy: Snape has no interest in parenting. Not meant to be a funny My Two Dads thing where he learns to love Teddy, but a massive, not-easily-solved problem between them, as Snape insists Lupin choose between Snape and Teddy, and basically refuses to help raise the kid.
Marauders-era: When Eileen finds out about the Prank, she launches a campaign to the Ministry to have all werewolves executed/imprisoned/denied education/[insert other bad thing here]. Either an established prior Snupin relationship, or one that develops during/because of her activism.
AU-from-DH, Snape doesn't die: On her deathbed, Eileen admits to Snape that Tobias wasn't his father, but either doesn't know or doesn't tell him who is. He has trouble dealing with this namelessness. Not necessarily any revelation that another HP character is his real father, just, how does he work through his anger/disappointment/relief/whatever? Snupin as you please.
DH-compliant: on Teddy's 5th birthday, Greyback shows up to claim him. (Um, backstory about werewolf lore, 5th birthday means something, because Greyback bit Remus, he has a claim on Teddy somehow, etc.) Past Snupin relationship (or ghosts to the rescue??) as you please.
DH-compliant, ghostfic: Remus and Snape haunt Hogwarts. When Teddy begins school, it turns out that he can see Snape, but not Remus. Why not? Remus is heartbroken. How does Snape act as a go-between for them?
DH-compliant, ghostfic: Remus can't move on, and haunts Teddy and Andromeda. Snape is sent back (by who? some afterlife force?) to convince him to leave.
Art prompt: Pr0ny mpreg pic
Art prompt: A family picture with Teddy?
Art prompt: A sequence of images of Snape and Lupin with the 'families' they had through their lives, first the blood related one, then their friends (marauders, Dumbledore, etc), then each other.
Art prompt: Snape and Lupin meeting their relatives in Heaven after DH.
Art prompt: Series of images from the Snupin family, however you want to configure it.
Art prompt: Lupin-Snape family snapshots - from new parents to in-laws, or anywhere in between.
Art prompt: Group photo at Severus and Remus' wedding (or ceremony of some kind). Odd relatives more than welcome.
After Lily was killed, Snape dug her up and made her into an Inferi to do his bidding - he keeps her hidden away with their inferi children (half-inferi if they're born? or perhaps just children he killed so they could have children)... while away from her, Snape begins a sexual relationship with Lupin. After the war, Snape joins Lily, but Lupin, worried for Snape due to his sudden disappearance, begins searching for him and finds him with his creepy family.
Art prompt: Snape family and Lupin family on Platform 9 3/4 when Severus and Remus are 7th years.
Art prompt: Snape and Lupin on Platform 9 3/4 with their child/children going to Hogwarts.
When they are adults (teaching together in PoA? Post-war?), Remus discovers Severus is self-harming and digs into Severus' nasty family history to find out what triggers it.
Werewolves are nearly indestructible, so Severus is surprised to discover the massive scars beneath Remus' patched and baggy clothes. As Remus tells him the painful story, Severus learns exactly why Remus never talks about his parents (who, when abusive and torturous "cures" all failed, tried to kill him, not wanting to deal with a werewolf son) and that Albus' offer to bring him to Hogwarts at eleven saved Remus' life.
Snape has a much younger cousin on the Snape side that was abused by his/her father - Snape managed to get the child away, but had no way of keeping him/her or protecting the Muggle child from the DEs. Albus arranged for a foster family (Snape doesn't know who the family is - all visits and time spent with his cousin are through Albus in a neutral house - out of the country?), so he doesn't realize that his cousin is fostered with Lupin's parents. Lupin also has no idea that the child his parents are fostering is Snape's cousin, but is curious about the wonderful, kind cousin the child always talks about. Snape, in turn, is happy that his cousin is treated well by the foster family, though the child, as instructed by Albus, never reveals names. One day, Snape is with his cousin and they happen to run into Lupin, who recognizes the child...
When the Umbridge Laws threaten Remus's custody of Teddy, his allies rally around him for the hearing. Snape, still hiding his feelings after the war, takes a more Slytherin approach to securing a future for Remus with his son. Will Remus figure out who was ultimately responsible for the verdict? What will he think when he does?
The orphans of the war are placed in a Ministry-sponsored orphanage after the final battle. All seems well until a mysterious disease spreads among the population. Remus is the only one who notices that young werewolves and offspring of Death Eaters are the only ones getting sick. He recruits Snape to help find a cure before the death toll rises, but when the source turns out to be a group of vigilante Aurors determined to eliminate 'bad blood' from the Wizarding World, who will win the day?
An attempt on Snape's life by random vigilantes injures Teddy (or other Snape-Lupin child) instead. Can the relationship survive the fall-out of the child's hospitalization, Snape's self-recrimination, and Remus's worry/need for revenge?
Can Snape (or Lupin) forge a family with both his lover and the mother of his child? Can a triangle prove to be a stable shape for a family?
Snape learns to love his werewolf pack - even when the pups climb all over him.
A family vacation: The werewolf, the Death Eater, the young metamorphmagus, the toddler twins, and a truly ridiculous amount of luggage.
It's not until Severus becomes guardian of two traumatized children of distant (Death Eater?) relations that Remus starts to see him in a new light... But can Remus find a place there or will his presence unbalance the fragile family?
The middle of a war is a terrible place to be a knocked-up spy with an estranged lover, so how does (Severus or Remus) deal with the situation, and can there ever be reconciliation? Does the war destroy too much for either of them to see a future?
Remus has another family amongst the werewolves, which he has kept secret from everyone (Severus and Tonks included).
Remus has to move in with Severus's family during part of the first war (when none of Remus's other friends trust him anymore).
Remus is Severus's only family. Then Remus marries Tonks.
Mealtime at the Lupin-Snape household. (AU, not AU, whatever... but their family eating a meal)
They get this assignment for Muggle Studies while they are in school: Write an essay explaining "What is a Family?" Remus and Severus have to work on the essay together.
An old family recipe.
Remus finds out that Severus is somehow related to Sirius Black. Sirius can either be alive or dead for this (tho it might be more fun if he's alive). Remus is caught between the two of them. Possible scenarios within this: Remus trying to keep Snape and/or Sirius from finding out the horrible truth; Bizarre wizarding illness means that one is the only viable donor (blood, marrow, organs, etc.) for the other; They both inherit something from a distant relative; General fainting, horror and snarkage at the idea that they somehow share common blood.
As Andromeda's grief drives her to insanity, she fights Remus for complete custody of Teddy. Remus battles prejudice and unfair laws in the Ministry. Even with the support of Harry, he has prove that he can financially provide for his child, have access to Wolfsbane and have a life partner for support. Snape needs a minder and an acceptable job to be welcomed back to society.
Feeling guilty about the whole kill-me thing, Dumblebore impregnates Snape using magic, and without Snape knowing. The secret Snape/Dumbledore daughter is therefore about the same age as Teddy and the final proof that Snape and Dumbledore were on the same side. This saves Snape's life in his trial after the war, but gives people the wrong impression, including Lupin. They bond over the trials of single parenthood and all manner of angsty post-war stuff. Romance and hawt sex in the end. (Pretty please? ^^)
And that's it! If you have any questions, please leave a reply here or use the community email. I hope everyone will have fun with this fest!
