When Severus had proposed a vacation, he hadn’t thought Remus would agree so readily and wholeheartedly.
The werewolf had launched into preparations, bringing home pamphlets, price lists, photo books and ideas. The bed tables were covered with atlases and maps. There was a big chart covering half of the fridge door, to choose the best route and the best period to take a holiday, what with the full moon and all.
Most of the time Severus couldn’t even follow his reasoning, he was so excited while expressing them.
It seemed as though Remus intended to make this two week vacation a tour of the whole world. And Severus left him to his work, happy to go away with his lover no matter where.
After all, they hadn’t married officially, and, with Teddy to take care of and the new baby, they hadn’t had the time for a proper honeymoon.
Remus had also often talked about the fact that he had never been able to visit a foreign country, since the old laws prohibited werewolves from leaving their own.
Now, with Kingsley as new Minister, those prohibitions had been lifted and Remus was free to go wherever he pleased, so his excitement was quite understandable.
It wasn’t until the week before the leaving date that Severus realized Remus hadn’t understood him properly.
“I already booked the portkey that will take us to Rome. Then it’s Paris, Greece, New York and finally a tropical island, so the children can enjoy some sun and a real beach, for once and… what?’
Remus had clearly seen something in the expression on Severus’ face, because he had stopped talking and was looking at him with an inquiring stare.
“No, nothing,” he said, trying not to sulk.
He’d wanted to take a vacation to spend some time by themselves, to indulge in some grown up time and rediscover some of the passion that had been put on one side for a while, due to work and family.
It wasn’t that he didn’t love the children, not at all. He’d grown very fond of little Teddy, and Eileen was a delight to deal with, smart and curious about everything, and very affectionate with all the members of their family.
He’d thought Andromeda or Molly would have been very happy to have the children for a while, and if they were busy, well, Potter or Draco could be easily coerced to take their place, but since Remus hadn’t raised the issue, Severus has just assumed everything was already settled.
Oh well, no need to dampen his mate’s mood. Severus forced a smile and said: “It’s nothing, I just thought you intended to visit Paris before Rome, that’s all.”
Remus seemed to buy it, since he started rambling merrily again, and the issue was forgotten.
