He felt... relief once the anxiousness faded. Knowing that no matter what happened, she knew how he truly felt. It was always a little easier with her than others. Because she recognized just how hard revealing himself like this was for him. The others didn't understand why it was so difficult. Like he should just be able to tell how he felt without fear. Family they may be, but they all didn't truly understand him like Tifa. At times, he even wondered if she knew how deeply his feelings went. Because he never truly felt confident enough in those feelings to act like the others would. But he wasn't them. He never would be. His feelings would always be glimpses. Never an open book.
His attention was on his meal again, not because he was shying away, but because he knew he didn't have to say anything. They were above uncomfortable silence now. He just nodded, to show he did appreciate how she reached back for him, meeting him halfway. His eyes found her smile and he could easily find comfort.
Silence was their company for a little while as he appreciated her by eating the food he would never ask for. They didn't always have to talk. Just being together was more than enough. After swallowing a few mouthfuls of the food on his plate he admitted, "I should probably get going. So... I can get back."
Then they wouldn't have to worry about the inevitable distance to come anymore. Because he'd be home.
