Noah stands staring out over Snyder Pond, enjoying the warmth of the morning sun streaming down on him. He takes a deep breath, inhaling the fragrance of strategically placed roses, waiting impatiently for the ceremony to begin. When the music finally begins Noah turns to watch numerous members of the Snyder family walking down the aisle to stand as groomsmen and maids of honor. Next, Natalie and Faith walk down the aisle, scattering rose petals behind them.
The music changes and Noah turns to watch Luke walking down the aisle, one arm tucked through his mother’s, and he can’t hold back a gasp. Luke is radiant, his eyes sparkling with happiness, dimples flashing, his already handsome features enhanced by the perfectly fitted Armani tux. The only thought in Noah’s head is beautiful. It was a word he had never before associated with a man, and though he rarely says it out loud it has become a frequent thought since he and Luke began dating.
Lily’s smile is as bright as her son’s, and in this moment their resemblance to one another is clear. She looks lovely in her floor-length silver gown, a bouquet of pink and lavender roses grasped tightly in her hands. Noah drags his eyes away from mother and son to look at Holden who is also dressed in Armani. He has never seen Luke’s father look so happy. His tear-filled eyes are focused on mother and son, and he is totally captivated.
Luke and Lily come to a stop at the altar. “I love you mom” Luke says, pressing a kiss to her cheek and releasing her arm. He steps forward and catches his father in a tight hug. “I love you too” he says quietly before turning and walking toward Noah, clearly fighting back tears. Luke slips into the seat next to him and grabs his hand tightly.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Lily Walsh and Holden Snyder…” the reverend begins. The rest of the ceremony passes in a blur for Noah who can’t keep his eyes off of Luke. He doesn’t think he has ever seen his boyfriend so happy. The divorce had been incredibly hard on Luke and now that his parents are getting re-married he is ecstatic. Noah stands with the rest of the guests as the music begins and Lily and Holden walk down the aisle, this time as man and wife.
“What time does the reception start?” Noah asks after a moment. It’s a gorgeous day and he wonders if they might be able to stay out here at the pond for a while. Over the past several months it has become ‘their’ spot, where they come to argue and make up, and just spend time together away from the rest of the world.
“Hmm?” Luke murmurs, still staring after his parents.
After the rollercoaster ride of the last ten months Noah has learned exactly how to get Luke’s attention. He brings their still clasped hands up to his lips and presses a delicate kiss to the tender skin on the inside of Luke’s wrist. Luke sighs in pleasure and turns a gentle smile on him, leaning forward to brush his lips over Noah’s briefly.
“Never been happier” Luke assures him, flashing those dimples that drive Noah crazy with the desire to lean in and taste them.
“What time does the reception start?” Noah asks again, restraining himself.
Luke glances at his watch. “In an hour” he says, tugging Noah in the direction of the farm house “but I promised my grandmother we’d help with the set up.”
“And what makes you think I’ll do that?” Noah teases, pretending to pout.
“Because” Luke says, stopping to look at him with smoldering eyes, “if you’re a good boy I’ll give you a reward after the party.”
“What are we waiting for?” Noah asks, only half joking as he hurries toward the farm house, pulling Luke along, their laughter trailing after them.
While he and Luke have been physically intimate with each other for five months now, they waited until Luke turned 18 two months before to take things all they way. Since they are both overly cautious about Luke’s parent’s finding out they have only made love when Holden and Lily were out of town, which has happened only three times over the last two months. They are both eagerly anticipating tomorrow night when Luke’s parents leave for their honeymoon, but Noah is willing to take what he can get in the meantime.
“There you boys are” Luke’s grandmother says in a scolding tone when they finally get back to the house. “There are million things to be done.”
“Sorry grandma Emma” the boys say in unison, smiling winningly at her.
Emma just shakes her head and hands Luke and Noah several boxes. “Take these out back and start setting up, would you dears?” she asks, waving toward the backyard.
Noah follows Luke outside, but when they get the boxes open he looks at his boyfriend helplessly. They are filled with flowers, ribbons, vases, and other less identifiable items, and Noah has no idea what to do with any of them.
Luke laughs at him for a moment before saying “You put together the centerpieces; I’ll take care of the rest of it.” When Noah just continues to stare Luke sighs and shakes his head in mock sadness. “No one would ever know you were gay. Here -” and he pulls several flowers from one of the boxes, ties them together with ribbon from a second box, and puts them in a vase from a third box. “It’s easy” he says, handing the perfectly arranged centerpiece to Noah.
“If you say so” Noah mumbles, unconsciously catching the tip of his tongue between his teeth as he concentrates on making another centerpiece. Finishing the first arrangement he looks up to ask Luke if it looks okay only to see his boyfriend hanging things that looks suspiciously like crystals in a nearby tree. Shaking his head at the bizarreness of all this decorating stuff he goes back to arranging centerpieces.
By the time Luke and Noah are finished decorating the guests have started arriving and Emma sends them upstairs to change out of their tuxedos. “Have I told you how hot you look in that tux?” Noah asks as soon as the door closes behind them, stepping behind Luke and wrapping his arms around his waist.
“Hmm” Luke hums contentedly, leaning his weight into Noah. “I was just thinking the same thing about you” he says, flashing a grin, complete with dimples, over his shoulder.
Noah gives in to the urge to taste this time, spinning Luke around and dipping his head to press the tip of his tongue into first one of those maddening dimples, then the other. Luke just laughs and captures Noah’s mouth, sucking gently on the tip of his tongue and coaxing it into his mouth as his hands deftly undo Noah’s tie and begin unbuttoning his shirt.
“God, Luke” Noah gasps as he pulls away, panting for breath. He kisses and licks his way down Luke’s corded throat, reveling in his moans of pleasure, sucking hard enough to leave a mark right at the juncture of Luke’s neck and shoulder where it won’t be blatantly obvious. He loves leaving his mark on Luke, and he bites down gently eliciting a desperate keening noise from the boy in his arms.
A sudden knock at the door has them jumping apart. “Luke? Noah? You boys ready yet?” his grandmother calls.
“We’ll be downstairs in just a second grams” Luke calls, and they each grab a change of clothes and dress quickly.
“Great” Luke says, staring pointedly at the tented crotches of their slacks before glaring at him. “We can’t go downstairs like this.”
“Think of cold things” Noah says, “Cold showers. Snow. Ice.” When Luke just continues to glare at him he says “No good? Then think of something gross. Spiders. Sushi,” he says naming things he knows Luke hates before finishing with “That librarian – what’s her name? Ms. Alderman and Professor Gruskin having sex.” The look of horror on Luke’s face is enough to send him into gales of laughter. Being with Luke these last few months has brought out a playful side of himself he never knew existed and he refuses to feel the least bit guilty as he heads downstairs, Luke’s cry of outrage echoing behind him.
