Luke was at work and he was feeling good. He was smiling like an idiot. He was still thinking about that amazing kiss that he shared with Noah the day before. He could still feel his lips tingling. He could still remember that sensation he felt when Noah slipped his tongue into his mouth. Luke was definitely in a good mood and everyone at work seemed to notice. Harriot was overjoyed. She was glad to see her co-worker happy again.
"Hi Luke."
"Hi Harriot." Luke still had a gigantic grin on his face.
"I have to say I enjoy seeing your smile again Luke."
"Huh?"
"You're smiling. Like really smiling. You're beaming."
"I am not."
"Oh but you are. And I'm pretty sure what you're so happy about."
"Well do share!"
"It's a man."
Luke smiled as he thought about Noah's blue eyes, his dark hair, his huge adam's apple, his pink lips that were so tasty. Luke shook his head to wake up out of his quick daydream.
"A man?"
"Oh I'm sure it's a man. That look in your eyes, is definitely about a man. So is he cute?"
"He's damn sexy-"
"Ha! I knew it!"
Luke and Harriot laughed.
"We're just friends, I swear, but we did share a kiss yesterday. Oh god it was so good."
"That good huh? It must have been if you're still smiling today."
"You have no idea how good it was."
"So do you make a habit of kissing ALL your friends?"
"No!"
"Then it's safe to assume that this guy is more than a friend."
"No, we're just friends, I swear. Besides, I just got out of a relationship."
"I didn't say you had to marry the guy, I'm just saying you guys are more than friends. Just admit it Luke."
"I plead the fifth."
Harriot and Luke giggled.
"See? There's my proof right there. You seem really happy so you might, just might, want to give this "friend" a chance."
"I don't even know if he wants to....wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. Friends, we're just friends."
"Well all I know is that you were messed up after Neil left. You missed a week of work. You never miss work. When you came back to work you seemed to be in a fog. But I see you today and you seem to be like your old self again. I, for one, am glad to see it. So may be this "friend" is good for you and might want to see where it goes."
"You...you don't think it's too fast to be thinking about someone else?"
"It doesn't matter what I think or what anybody else thinks. You have to do what's best for you. Do you think it's too soon? I was just making an observation and it's obvious you're in a better place right now. You may not be completely over Neil but you're well on your way."
"Thanks Harriot. You've given me a lot to think about."

"Hello?"
"It's your mother Noah."
"Hi ma."
"So I was right about Luke?"
"What on Earth are you talking about?"
"I just ran into Gabe in Old Town. He tells me you and Luke had lunch at Al's."
Noah looks at his phone. Gabe and his big mouth. He puts it back to his ear.
"I told ya ma, me and Luke are friends."
"That's not how Gabe tells it."
"I'm telling you mom-"
"Honey, it's obvious you like this guy. I told you this last week."
"Yes you did."
"I'm just want to know where you going with this. Is he your boyfriend?"
"Ma!"
"I'm just asking son. You haven't had a serious boyfriend since Alex. That was over a year ago. Now all you do is have casual boyfriends and sex."
"MA!"
"Honey calm down. You're a handsome boy and you're young. I'm not stupid. I know what you're doing. I was young once. I have needs and urg-"
"Oh my god, stop it!"
"Well honey how do you think you and Andrea got here?"
"I'm so changing the subject!"
"Anyways, mother's know their children. I'm just wandering if Luke is in the same categories as the others?"
"Mom, I swear, we're just friends. He's a friend that I like a lot. A whole lot actually."
"Well I haven't even met the boy and I can see how much you like him. So when do I get to meet this young man who's made my son's heart go pitter patter?"
Noah had to laugh at his mom. She was so straight forward but he was used to it.
"Ma I promise if I get serious about Luke you'll be the first to know."
"And you'll bring him over for dinner?"
"Yes mom, I promise."
"That's all I ask honey."
"Love ya ma, bye."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke was at home after a successful day at work. He was sitting in his study thinking about what Harriot had to say. In some ways he agreed with her and in some ways he wasn't quite sure what to do. He liked the way he felt when he was around Noah. He liked that he was smiling again, he liked that he was writing again, he liked that he was living again. But he had to wonder if it was too fast. He could hear his dad in his head telling him to slow down. Luke kept thinking about if he was truly ready to move on. Did Noah want to be with him? Was he just fooling him self with this false sense of happiness? Was it even false? Was it real? Luke kept thinking over and over about all the pros and cons of moving on with Noah. He decided to call Noah and share a little bit of what he was feeling.
"Hello?"
"Hi Noah."
"Hi Luke." Noah was beaming.
"How are you?"
"I'm great, and you?"
"I'm good Noah. I called because I wanted to tell you something."
"Ok, shoot."
"Let me just start by saying this, I really, really enjoyed that kiss yesterday."
"Oh me too."
Luke breathed a sigh of relief. This encouraged him to go on.
"I...I wanted to let you know that I've been thinking about you a lot. I enjoy being around you and I like the time that we spend together. I hope he's not freaking out! As you know I've been pretty messed up since Neil...Neil left me, but ever since you gave me your pep talk I've been slowly getting back to my old self. I really want to thank you for that."
"I just call em' as I see em'. You're welcome. That's what friends do."
"That's the thing. I never thought we'd be friends. When I met you over a year ago I hated you, well I didn't hate you but I had a strong distaste for you."
Noah laughed.
"No you didn't!"
"Yes I did. I used to tell Neil all the time that I wished you would go away."
"I think you were secretly denying your feelings for me."
Luke and Noah laughed.
"I'll admit that I was attracted to you but that's it. It was purely physical."
"I do have a killer bod...."
"See? That was one of the things I didn't like about you. You're over confident."
"I call it self assurance."
"Well what ever you call it, I've grown to appreciate it. And now since we've been hanging out I see what Neil liked about you. You're a really good guy Noah. You're smart and funny and I never knew you were such a geek."
"Hey, a SEXY geek, don't forget that!"
"Ok, a sexy geek. The thing is Noah....I've been thinking about you...well me and you."
"You and me...as in.....together?"
Oh god, I just freaked him out. I didn't want to do that. Wait, calm down Luke. You don't know how he feels. Just say what you wanted to say. Luke cleared his throat.
"Yeah... I've been thinking about you lately. I honestly didn't think I would be doing this so soon but I have. I'm not trying to freak you out or anything, I just want to be honest. I'm kinda conflicted."
"Conflicted, why?"
"Well one part of me is telling me is way too soon to be thinking about someone new and another part of me is telling me to just go for it. And after that kiss yesterday....Anyways, I really like you Noah but I don't want to mess up our friendship. I've come to value it and I believe it's helped me. I just....I want to see where this goes, but I want to take it slow, and I'm not sure how you feel and if you don't feel the same it's ok, but I had to tell you the truth."
"Luke, I like you too. A lot. And I also don't want to mess up our friendship. I really like talking to you. I feel at ease and that's hard for me because I don't let too many people get close too me."
"You have a lot of friends."
"More like associates. I rarely let people get close to me but with you I couldn't help it."
"So we agree, take things slow for now?"
"Agreed."
"I've also decided on another thing. I want that dinner you promised."
"A promise is a promise. When do you want it?"
"Tomorrow night."
"My place or yours?"
"My place. You haven't seen my new house yet."
"That's true. Ok, another question. Do you like seafood and do you have a bunt pan?"
"That's two questions. I do like seafood and what the heck is a bunt pan?"
"You don't know what a bunt pan is? I have so much to teach you Snyder! Just ask your grandma if you can borrow one. I'll bring over my pots and the ingredients. I'm guessing you don't have a decent pot."
Luke laughed at Noah.
"Ok then, dinner it is at my house tomorrow. See you then. Good night Noah."
"Good night Luke."
