Hey everyone! Here is part seven to Every Day Life! I know I usually update on Saturdays...but since it was a holiday week, I wasn't able to post this weekend. But here it is...better late than never! Enjoy!
Title: A Night Out
Pairing: Van/Jake
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I do not own Van or Jake, or the characters of Luke and Noah. This is complete fabrication. There is also a Billy Magnussen reference in here...and I don't own him, either.
A/N: The names of the bars in the story are names of real bars in Brooklyn. I've never been to them before, so I don't know what they are like for real, I just used the names for the story. I also do not own these establishments, either.
“So, where to tonight?”
The cold, crisp evening air swept past them as they stepped out onto the street from Van’s apartment. They began to walk down the sidewalk side-by-side, shoulders rubbing warmly together.
“Hmm…I’m not sure,” Jake began as they made a turn down the street corner and were met with a huge gust of wind. “Where do you feel like…Van?”
Jake turned his head to find that Van was no longer walking next to him. He slowed his pace a little and felt a presence behind him. He turned his head a little more and saw the figure of a crouched Van following behind him in his peripheral vision.
“What are you doing, Hansis?” Jake slowed to a stop. Van stopped too, but kept himself positioned behind Jake on the street.
“The wind is freezing,” Van shivered slightly. “And this is one of the rare times where I really appreciate your height advantage…you’re a great wind blocker.”
Jake chuckled at him and wrapped his arm around the blonde’s shoulders, bringing him in tightly to his body.
“If you were cold, you could have just said so…instead of being so sneaky. You know I hate that.” Van raised his eyebrows at the taller man.
“Oh please, Silbermann…you know you love how I’m all sneaky,” Van teased, as he brought his hand down to hit him playfully on his butt. Van laughed at Jake’s cute little reaction and snuggled himself closer to his side. Jake joined in the laughter, and strengthened his grip on the boy at his side.
“OK, OK…so I might enjoy it a little,” Jake admitted with a slight laugh. “Now, where do you want to go tonight? The usual?”
“Hmm…” Van thought. “No…I’m not really feeling Moe’s tonight. What about Freddy’s?”
“Umm…I don’t think so,” Jake ducked his head. Van saw his cheeks flush a light shade of pink, and a sudden realization hit him.
“Oh…OH!”
“Uhh…yeah…I’d rather NOT go to Freddy’s for a while. What about Buttermilk?”
“Nah, way too uppity,” Van shook his head in protest. They continued to walk down the street in
And this Thursday night began like all the others…spending half of it just to choose the right bar for the evening.
“Teddy’s?”
“Nooo…definitely not! My scar has still not healed.”
“Oh come on, Van,” Jake scoffed. “That was almost a month ago.”
“Jake! The physical scar may have healed, but the emotional one is still strong! Plus, I’m still a little bitter!”
Jake laughed at the blonde. He could be so dramatic at times.
“But Van,” Jake whispered. “I really like your scar…it’s in one of my favorite places.” Jake brought his free arm across his body and rubbed a small spot above Van’s right hipbone. A place he knew very well. Van shivered slightly at the gentle touch, and smiled at the brunet.
“Still…I am never drinking Cabo Wabo shots ever again.”
“Well, you can,” Jake laughed at the memory. “You just shouldn’t try to do karaoke afterward.”
“Maybe not…” Van agreed. “I still maintain that my dancing was fine…it’s just that microphone cord came out of nowhere.”
“As did the table you fell on to.”
“Oh, shut up!” Van playfully hit Jake on the arm as they continued walking down the slightly crowded streets of
“We are banned from there, remember?”
“Oh yeah…” Van remembered. Jake and him actually didn’t do anything wrong, it was Billy who was really at fault for that one. But still, the two men were never allowed back into that establishment. “This is getting ridiculous, Jake…maybe we should just try someplace new, for once?”
“Someplace new?” Jake gawked at him. “Van, we would have to go all the way to the
“So? That could be fun! We could turn this night into an adventure!” At this, Jake stopped walking.
“What did I just hear? You want to break a tradition? You?”
“Well, if you are allowed to, why can’t I for once?”
“Are you OK?” Jake brought his hand up to Van’s forehead. “You NEVER want to break our routine. Ever.”
“Well, I want to now,” Van defended. “Please, Jake? I want to go on an adventure! To search for a new bar that we’ve never been to before!” Van locked onto Jake’s eyes, and pleaded to the taller man in front of him. Jake could never reject that face.
“OK,” Jake sighed. “Let’s go.” Van smiled and planted a sweet kiss on Jake’s lips before taking his hand and leading him toward the nearest subway station. “But you better be on your best behavior. If something bad happens to us when we are all the way out in the
Van just smiled at him devilishly and continued to lead him down the street.
“Don’t worry, Jake…I will behave,” Van promised. Jake raised his eyebrows at him in question. “I will, I swear! And if I don’t, I will let you punish me for it…just like last time.”
