Here is part 4 of Every Day Life! I hope you all enjoy this!
Title: Rainy Day
Pairing: Van/Jake
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I do not own Van or Jake, or the characters of Luke and Noah. This is complete fabrication.
Jake looked out at the rain falling hard outside his window. He watched as drop after drop slid down the glass, obstructing the view of the street outside. The downpour resounded in his ears, causing his frustrations to grow. He silently cursed the rain.
Didn’t the rain know that it was ruining the perfect Saturday that he had planned for him and Van? Did it not know that it was inhibiting them of what was supposed to be a beautiful autumn walk in
The sound of footsteps disturbed Jake’s inner rant, and he turned from the window to see Van emerging from the bathroom.
“So…how about some mindless TV?” Van asked, motioning toward the couch. Jake sighed, cursed the rain again, and nodded. So this is what his perfect Saturday had come to?
He walked around to the front of the couch and fell into it, spreading himself along its full length. Van followed, positioning himself back-to-chest against Jake. Van snuggled into Jake as the taller boy wrapped his arms around his frame. The blonde boy sighed into the embrace, allowing them to sink deeper into the couch that has long been conformed to their bodies.
Van reached for the remote on the coffee table.
“I do believe it is my turn to choose what we watch,” he informed smugly as he flipped on the television. Jake nestled his chin into Van’s hair as he peered over the top of his head to watch his friend flip through the channels. After moments of surfing, Van finally found something he liked.
“Oh yes! I forgot this was on tonight!” Van cheered and set the remote down on the floor.
“Oh come on, Van…not another reality show,” Jake complained. “How can you stand to watch these…they are so ridiculous!”
“They aren’t ridiculous, Jake!” Van defended, turning around so that he was chest-to-chest, face-to-face with the brunet. “They are real people thrust into interesting situations! There are no sets, no characters, no scripted words…just personalities meshing and clashing together. They are just every day people with homes and jobs and families, and in my world where everything is scripted and planned and directed, it’s nice to come home and watch something real. To feel something real…it’s like my comfort food.”
Jake smiled as Van’s words sunk in. They were a definite stretch, but it was such a Van thing to do…to take ridiculous and off-the-wall statements and twist them into perfect truth.
“I mean…don’t you have something like that? Something that makes you feel real?” Van asked, gazing deeply into the eyes inches in front of him. Jake stared back at him intently, Van’s eyes were searching him, waiting for his answer. Suddenly, Van saw the corners of Jake’s mouth curl up.
“Yeah…yeah, I have something like that.”
Jake brought his hand up to his neck, and brought Van’s lips to meet his. Their lips danced together, full of passion and desire. This wasn’t some story…this wasn’t just a kiss between Luke and Noah. This was Van and Jake. This was truth. This was comfort. This was real.
They parted, and Van nuzzled their noses together. Jake lightly ran his fingers through the blonde boy’s hair, and smiled at him. Van smiled back at him, knowingly. Jake knew that he felt it, too.
“I think I know what you mean,” Van whispered to him. “But…” he began as he twisted back around to face the television. “We are still watching this.”
Jake just chuckled at his friend, and wrapped his arms around him again. This time, Van brought his arm up to entangle their fingers together and strengthen their connection. Van’s scent flooded Jake’s senses, and he marveled at how something so small could make him feel so alive. He smiled, somehow knowing that Van was smiling, too.
It looks like the rain didn’t ruin his Saturday after all.
