Living with Dante, Day Two
Title: Love? Word Count: 2665 Fandom: Devil May Cry Rating: G Hearing Voices isn’t always a bad thing…
“And don’t touch anything!” Dante had said as he had grabbed Nero by the shoulder and dragged him out after Trish on the way to some new job that had been phoned in. It would have been all well and good, if it hadn’t been for the fact that Kyrie was stuck all alone, maybe hours, with nothing to do.
She was only human, but she’d seen how Nero’s hand had glowed ominously at some of the ‘Decorations’ on the walls, weapons, trophies and other things she didn’t want to look at to closely.
It was pretty clear to her that: ‘Don’t touch anything’. Actually meant: ‘Don’t touch anything because Nero’ll kill me if we come back and you’re dead or worse’.
Kyrie sat on one of the worn leather couches in the corner resting her chin on her hand and her elbow on the arm and sighed.
“Oh! So that’s what ‘Sigh’ is!”
Kyrie sat up straight. “Who said that?”
“Er…no one. No one said any thing.” The voice said. “And you certainly should tell Dante that no one has said anything.”
Kyrie bit her lip, the voice didn’t sound threatening. But did that count for much?
“Well I wouldn’t be surprised if I was hearing things. Everything else has gone crazy I don’t see why I shouldn’t.”
“People say Dante has gone crazy all the time.”
“I think that’s a different kind of Crazy.” Kyrie though back to the time she first saw him, dropping into the temple full of guards and… She would have thought that he was suicidal to try that, except he had done it, and had gotten away, would have gotten away much easer if Nero hadn’t been there.
And what things had Nero had done? Her memories of what had happened after Argus had taken her were somewhat fuzzy, but what she did remember made her shiver.
She loved Nero. She knew that, but she was only just releasing how hard loving a demon could be.
“Is it crazy for a human woman to love a devil?”
“What is ‘love’ ?”
Kyrie swallowed. If the voice was a Demon and this demon didn’t know what love is then...no. Kyrie shook her head dismissing the thought. Nero knew what love was, she knew that. And although she doubted Dante would start sprouting poetry on the matter, she was sure the devil hunter knew as well.
But the fact that anything can live without knowing what love was made her heart ache.
“It’s…ah, it’s when two people like each other very much and want to do everything together.”
“A human and a Demon can’t fight together, the opponent will always go for the human.”
“I didn’t mean fight.” Kyrie muttered. “Just…everything else.”
“Fighting and guarding is all I ever do.” The voice said. “I fight with my brother and we fight with Dante, we like fighting together.”
“All you do is fight?” Kyrie sighed, imagining a lifetime of worry and first aid ahead of her.
“I guard too.” The voice said happily.
Kyrie felt a chill.
“Are you guarding me?”
“I’m ‘watching the shop’, and you’re in the shop…does that mean I’m guarding you?” The voice paused. “Dante likes Nero, and Nero likes you. If you were hurt it would hurt Nero and that would hurt Dante.”
Kyrie could almost hear the cogs turning in the mind of…whatever she was talking to.
“I’ll guard you too, because I don’t want Dante to be hurt.”
Kyrie smiled. So what if this Demon didn’t know what love was, it didn’t stop him from feeling some form of it after all.
