This is part two of the new Ded fic 2, which cannibalised a lot of the *original* Ded fic 2 which is now Ded fic four…*sigh* Yes I know I’m sorry I confuse me self sometimes too.
Next Stop Nibelheim? Or do they stay by Correl/Gold Saucer a bit longer?

Most of the dream has been removed because it’s CRAP!
Vincent found his feet and ran for Lucreica but she was fading away, he reached for her but fell though what was left of her image and when he pulled himself to his feet his hair in his face, Vincent went to brush it away, his claw came into view.
“No!”
Something grabbed him by the shoulders he fought to break free until he saw the pair of worried blue eyes looking at him from beyond the clawed gauntlet.
“You okay?” Cid asked.
Vincent blinked and shook his head as if he could banish his confusion with the motion. “Why did you wake me?”
“Well you were bloody twitching as if you had Haste cast on you.” Cid shrugged. “So I figured you were having a nightmare or something.”
Vincent blinked as the red ribbon he used in his hair fell loose covering one of his eyes. Cid smothered a laugh at how he looked.
“Did I say anything?” Vincent asked harshly as he fixed the strip of cloth.
There was a heartbeat of silence before Cid answered. “Nothing I could make out.”
“What time is it?”
“I’d say 'bout two in the morning.”
Vincent sighed. He wanted to go back to sleep to see Lucrecia again, and yet, he was restless. Judging by that cup of coffee in Cid’s hand the captain was feeling the same way.
“Why were you awake at this time?”
Cid shrugged again.
“Couldn't sleep.”
Vincent frowned he wasn’t surprised, everyone else was starting to relax after their victory over Sephiroth. Starting to pull their lives back together.
Barret was looking for fuel to replace the use of Mako.
Tifa, Cloud and Marleen were sticking together, Tifa was talking about opening a new bar somewhere, Cloud was thinking about taking time out to look closely at his memories, he still wasn't sure how much of them were real and how much were illusion.
Nanaki wanted to go home for a while.
Reno had taken Elena and Rude to what was left of Mideel. Vincent suspected there was something else going on there, but it wasn’t any of Vincent’s business, he wasn’t a Turk anymore.
Reeve was trying to salvage what he could of Midgar, the city was dead but someone had to look after the people, maybe found and new town nearby.
Yuffie was doing a different kind of 'salvaging' from Midgar.
What about Cid and Vincent?
Vincent didn’t know about himself he was weighing his options, he would not return to the Shinra Mansion, he would stay on the Highwind for now until he decided.
Cid however already had somewhere to go, Rocket Town, even with the Rocket gone it was still his home, Shera was there as well as all the people who respected him so much. He had made no mention of going home and he had barely left the Highwind.
He had all but thrown of the rest of the crew off the airship leaving Cid alone to do all the seemingly imposable repairs.
Repairs that he was actually making good progress with.
“Vincent are you sure your ok?”
Vincent blinked.
“Yes.” Vincent answered.
“Vincent...do you ever think what you’re going to do now? You know, now that everything's over?”
“We fought so nothing would be over.”
Cid shot a look at Vincent.
“You know what I mean Vin-Vin.”
“Vin-Vin?” Vincent echoed with a raised eyebrow.
“Yeah Vin-Vin got a problem with that?”
Vincent didn't answer.
“So what are you doing to do?”
“I haven't decided yet, what about you? You must be in a rush to return to Rocket town.”
“Not really.” Cid answered finally taking a drink of his motor oil/coffee. “Not really much left for me there.”
“What about Shera?” Vincent asked.
Cid frowned.
“What about Shera?” He echoed the question.
“You seemed to have had a change of heart about here after you made it into space...I though...”
Cid fought not to spit out his coffee. “You thought what? That I was going to marry her?”
Vincent blinked. “Possibly?”
Cid started laughing. Vincent's face was impassive as ever.
“Sorry Vincent really, it's just the thought of Shera being my wife, is even funnier than the thought of me having a wife in the first place.”
“The thought of finding love, a wife, and possibly having children is funny?”
Cid stopped laughing.
“Don't look at me like that Vincent, I didn't mean it like that. Of course people marry and have kids, it's just...not for me.”
“You...are a strange man Cid Highwind.”
Cid smiled. “Coming from you, I'll take that as a complement, Vin-Vin.”
“Call me that again Cid and you will regret it.”
“Is that so? And how do you intend to make me regret it? I saved the goddamn world! There’s nothing left for me to be scared of…Vin-Vin.”
The rest of the crew was abruptly woken when Cid shrieked.
Vincent never had to hear the nickname Vin-Vin again.
That night:
“Hey Captain where’s your eyebrow?”
Cid glared at Nida, who quickly became more interested in his hand of cards. Cid started looking in his pockets for a lighter.
Vincent held his hand out to Cid a materia rested in the center of his palm, glowing and ready to cast.
“Need a light.”
“Fuck of.”
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
In Rocket Town
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
When they landed in Rocket Town, Cid was all but attacked by Shera who threw herself into his arms.
“Your back” She cried burying her face in Cid’s shoulder. “I was so worried for you!”
“Damn woman!” Cid shouted prising her off him. “You have that little faith in me?”
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
“If you can stop bloody laughing for five fucking seconds I would like to have this shit fixed!”
“But Cid, you look so cute.”
Vincent looked at the mini-Cid bouncing up and down in rage as he displayed more of his ‘expressive’ language.
“Yuffie, I don't think your commentary is helping.” The red cloaked man said.
The ninja didn't seem to hear him. “Who's a cute little Chibi!”
More cursing from the mini-Cid ensued.
Vincent sighed, he moved from his position where he had been leaning against the hull of the Highwind, He picked up the mini-Cid and carried him inside away from the annoying Ninja.
“Vincent you bastard I can walk you know, just give me a damn ensuna already!”
Vincent didn't reply he placed Cid down on the table in the operations room.
He then reached into a unseen pocket for his spare materia. Pulling out his heal materia he used Ensuna on the captain.
“I did not have it equipped and I did not want Yuffie to know where I kept my spare materia.”
It almost sounded like Vincent was apologising.
“Oh.” Cid said he was now sitting on the edge of the table his feet dangling over the edge of the table almost like a little kid.
A strange silent tension settled in the room before Cid slid off the table.
“Uh, thanks. Now excuse me I have to show that bloody Ninja why she shouldn't laugh at me.” Cid left.
Vincent watched the door for a few seconds his collar hiding the quirk of his lips. He left the room too, but didn't follow Cid, he didn't need to, he could hear Cid chewing out Yuffie quite easily.
Ever since leaving the coffin in the Shinra Mansion Vincent had developed a fondness for heights. Which was why he was heading for the top of the Highwind. Since it wasn't actually in flight he could use the access hatch to the top of the Highwind.
He sat there thinking as the wind pulled at his hair and cloak. A few ours later he heard someone coming up to join him.
“So there you are! What are you brooding about now?”
Vincent looked down at where Cid's head and upper shoulders were sticking out of the access hatch.
“Catch.”
Vincent caught the red light bulb that Cid had tossed up to him. He looked down at Cid with a quirked up eyebrow.
“Well you might as well get yourself useful while your up there. That warning light behind you blew out while we were getting out of that planet cursed crater.”
Vincent shrugged, unscrewed the broken bulb with his claw and tossed the dead light to Cid, then he screwed the new bulb in with his natural hand.
“Thanks...” Cid looked surprised that Vincent had actually done as he asked. “I've been meaning to do that for about a week.”
“If it broke when you say that would be correct.” Vincent commented.
“Right then, um...gotta lot of work to do...”
“You know, you should rest.”
“Huh?”
“You haven't stopped since Meteor.” Vincent said turning back to the sunset. “First making the Highwind fit to stay in the sky after the beating it took. Then you took Tifa, Cloud, and Cat Sith back to what's left of Midgar, You took Barret and Marleen to Corel, then Red back to his home. Now fine tuning the Highwind before taking Yuffie back to Wutai, We saved the planet I'm sure Yuffie won't mind waiting for the Highwind to be prepared for the long journey west. There's no need to rush anymore.”
Cid almost let his smoke fall from his mouth, he had never heard Vincent talk so much in one go.
“So you want me to sit around brooding?” Cid asked. “Sorry Vin, that isn't my style.”
Vincent stayed looking at the sunset as it started to turn the sky blood red.
“Still...um...thanks.” Cid scratched his head. Vincent had been pretty nice today he didn't want to be so...blunt like his usual nature. “Maybe some other time?”
He didn't expect Vincent to respond, to just keep looking at the sunset like he usually did, instead he jumped down to where Cid was still half in half out of the access hatch.
“There are always more sunsets.” Vincent said. “Maybe I can save you from working yourself to death.”
Cid blinked.
“Well I doubt you be much good I mean your not a mechanic are you?”
“We'll see won't we?”
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
Vincent as it turned out was a pretty good mechanic. He wasn’t good enough for some of the more tricky work, but he did know one end of a wrench from the other . Cid found that as long Vincent had the schematics of what ever part he was working on with him he could be left to himself. Cid crew would have been she shocked to learn this, they had Cid over their shoulders for months before being left to their own devices and they were just as good as Vincent if not better, they after all had had the right training.
Vincent however didn’t know this. He wouldn’t have minded if Cid had been hovering over the shoulder the whole time, and he didn’t mind that Cid checked his work when he finished it was common sense. He was just...satisfied that he had something to keep him busy. To keep his mind off his dreams and the other, distractions, of his mind.
The first three beings that he had transformed were mostly quiet he could almost, almost forget they were there.
But not Chaos. Even if the thing didn’t speak he could feel it in the back of his mind watching though his eyes, judging him and his companions.
Reminding him that he wasn’t strictly human anymore. Vincent looked down at his metal hand, as if he needed another reminder of what he was.
Vincent didn’t know what made him different from the others, maybe it was because the others were made from rage and fear both fleeting passing things and thus their presence was the same. Where as Chaos was different. Chaos was his Guilt a heavy weight in his mind at the best of times, but Chaos was also his sorrow and the small grain of fear and hate that never left him which kept drawing the first three demons back to him each time.
It was as good a theory as he was going to come up with.
“Vincent, finished with that yet?”
“Nearly.”
“Want to take a break once your finished.”
“If you want.”
<^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^> <^>
“What the hell? Wuita? Why?”
“I spent thirty years in that coffin, And then I was thrown into a fight where I had to use every ability I had in order to stay alive, with out thinking what those abilities were, with out having the chance to figure out what I am, and what kind of life I can lead now. I don’t even know if it’s, safe, for me to be around other people.”
“Of course it’s fucking safe for you to be around other people! You’ve never attacked anyone that didn’t attack you first!”
“And what if someone attacks me first because they are scared of me? I am not in control of myself when I am in another form, can I trust, beasts monsters and demons to know the difference between a trained killer, or a scared little kid who only attacked me out of fear?”
“But - ”
“I’ve been changing out of battle Cid, it started after I got the Death Penalty, and I don’t know if I will ever be able to control it, or if it will just get worse until I’m gone and only they remain.”
Cid searched for something to say to that, but he didn’t get the chance to voice his objections.
“Only the northern part of Wutia is populated. I’ll be alone, I’ll have chance to think to catch my breath, maybe that’s all I need to gain control. And if I can’t, and I reach the city of Wutia as a threat, Yuffie and her family are in charge there, and Yuffie will make sure that they know what to do.”
“ ‘Know what to do?’ What do you mean by that! How to fucking kill you?”
“How to stop me from killing others!”
“I can stop you from killing others!”
Vincent blinked into the silence that declaration had caused. Cid was flush with anger and he looked way glaring at some point on the wall.
“How?” Vincent asked eventually. “Do you really think you can hold back Chaos if he gets out of control and takes me over permanently?”
“You should have to do this!” Cid muttered. “It’s not fair.”
Vincent shook his head and rested his human hand on Cid’s shoulder. “I’m glad I have you for a friend Cid.”
Cid could do nothing but watch as the gun man walked away.
