Hearing his mother tongue from her lips made Erik's eyes mist over. It was yet more proof that they were connected. They would face the future together, overcoming obstacles and destroying those who threatened them. Because truly, what Erik wanted above everything else, was just to feel safe, to not have to worry that he or anyone he loved would be taken by the government, used for experimentation, or killed. He'd been too young and inexperienced in his power to save his mother's life. She'd died for his weakness. No more.
He could never have imagined in his wildest dreams that he would find safety in the arms of the most amazing woman he'd ever met. Jean was as much a force of nature as she was a woman. He wasn't sure if his mind could even comprehend the true depth of her powers. It terrified him and aroused him in equal measure because of one simple truth: she was his and he was hers. He felt it as strongly as he sensed the ferrous metals around him. She'd been correct when she said that them sleeping together would change things.
He stared into her eyes and pushed a loose tendril of her sweat-dampened hair behind her ear. "Ich liebe dich auch mit alles, daß ich bin."
It was sacrilege surely, but as Erik fell asleep to the feeling of Jean's gentle kisses on his neck, he found he didn't care in the slightest.
