Matt didn't get too many Saturday's off, to which he was oddly comfortable with at this point. Concepts like 'weekends' had stopped having any sort of meaning to him a long time ago. But, when the stars aligned just right, Matt had a weekend off to do as he pleased. Well, mostly. Of course as soon as his hoard of sisters discovered that he had an actual weekend off they decided that they needed to consume most of it. Which, Matt wasn't technically complaining. He just got a little grumpy with them for not asking first. Or he would if he wasn't so used to it by now. It was no secret that the big scary man that Matt could be had a giant soft spot for his family, and honestly, he didn't hate the idea of a family barque tonight. Especially, because Mia was making the trip home from Stanford where she was finishing up her residency and that meant that Matt could pick on her in person. Besides that, he had a lot to teach his young nephew about how to grill properly. Yes, Matt knew that he was still young, and that Louis's father could teach him. If he wanted to have Louis learn how to dry everything out and turn everything into hockey pucks. Oh no, that would not do at all.
But, he still had several hours before he even had to go pick up groceries and make his appearance at his mother's. The definite upside of never getting out of the habit of being an early riser. That and it was still early enough where he could go and be out on the water for a little while before the crowds started to arrive. Matt didn't get to do this often, and he was by no means an expert, but sometimes even just sitting out here on his board like he was now, it was peaceful. It helped clear out all of the things that weighed on his mind over the week and was slowly putting himself in a better mood. For a while Matt was the only one out there, thankfully, because the first two tries had mostly worked but he still ended up falling off. But now it seemed that solitude was shattered. Oh well. Bound to happen eventually.
"Mornin'." he greeted in his usual neutral tone, trying to remember that he being a nice guy right now, and not in work mode.
