Catching her off guard was a very good method to make her slowly give in, but it wasn't the only one. He wanted to show her that he cared about her; that if she called he would be there, just like she did tonight. Robert wouldn't be there if he didn't feel anything for the girl, that's for sure. And he had no problem waiting a week or a month until she gave in and stopped denying the obvious. He was a patient man.
