Who: Charlie Fisher and Edison Halloran
What: Resolving the issues
Where: Halloran Estate
When: After school
Rating: PG

The past week had been difficult on the boy. Not just because he was confused as to who his new fan was, but it seemed that his best friend who was not names TyTy was mad at him. And he had no idea what he did wrong. He spent a lot of time moping like a sad puppy. He did not know how to bring it up to Charlie to begin with and as soon as they were in the same room, it seemed like the other boy wanted to be distant. Sure he did not like the idea of not having a chance to talk to Charlie, but Eddie was going to let him do what he needed to and whine to Caius afterward. Of course, he had not expected such a reaction when he mentioned possibly cutting off his hair. If Charlie did not want him to do it, he wouldn’t, but he was not expecting him to have an opinion with how distant he seemed recently. And then it came out- a comment about the girl who had kissed him quite unexpectedly after the show. After an awkward silence he suggested they spoke after class… and then he realized that he was having Charlie come over after and he had no idea what he would say. Or why his friend had even been so mad in the first place.

Eddie had effectively learned nothing from asking his brother for help. If anything, all the boy knew was every moment Cai had spent doodling in the margins of his notebooks had been anything but helpful, as the stick figures that looked more like a toddler attacking a wall with a crayon needed to headbutt each other smiling before making circles with their arms. He was confused. It seemed his brother could not express verbally what he was trying to get across and so the boy gave up and retired to his room to play around on his snare. He was there for about a half hour before one of the maids came to get him, saying Charlie was there. He must have looked nervous, because the maid asked if he needed a glass of water. He kindly declined and went to go see his friend, not sure why his heart was slamming into his chest. No, he was starting to get it, as he thought it was ludicrous for him to be upset over some girl playing with his hair. When given the option of Charlie doing it… there were no other options. And this was not the first time he had a fan get a little touchy, especially when he had hair porn for days. He saw Charlie standing in the entryway and almost turned away, chickening out. Their friendship was more than this silliness, so he kept going, giving his usual hair flip and head shake before pushing the hair out of his eyes. “You’ve been here enough, you don’t have to wait around for me,” Eddie commented lightly, wanting to give a bear hug, but holding off. Somehow a normal greeting seemed… wrong.

--

It had probably been the longest week Charlie had ever been though in his entire life. Not even waiting for the new Star Trek movie had been so slow and painful. And painful was the key word there. Charlie was hurt. Very hurt. Seeing his friend with that girl who was practically sex on legs had upset him in ways he, even after a week, still couldn’t understand. Sure he had seen fans get touchy with him before and while it bothered him a tiny little bit, it wasn’t a big deal because he knew Eddie didn’t have feelings for them or anything like that. But that girl had been different. Charlie could tell she had wanted Eddie by the way she had been talking to him. And you know, by the way she kissed him. Charlie felt left out, ignored by his best friend, and he had to leave the venue because it was just too much for him. And then it started the longest week ever. Charlie wanted nothing more than things to be ok between them again, to cuddle with him like they always did... But he was so hurt. And confused. And apparently everyone in his family knew why he was confused about but refused to tell him. His father asked him if he had had a fight with Eddie, and then proceeded to give him a look that Charlie knew he should’ve understood but he could only stare at his father waiting for the answer that never came. Then his mother told him him and Eddie needed to talk about what happened and share their feelings, which only confused Charlie more because he wasn’t the sharing-feelings type. Unless it was with Mica. But Mica was in the wonderful land of being in love with Mr. Franklin, so he didn’t feel like bothering her with his problems.

So Charlie had tried his best to deal with his problems and wait for Eddie to apologize, because it was obvious he needed to apologize for completely ignoring him and pay attention to that bi-- girl who was all over him. He had kept his distance, because he couldn’t completely cut out Eddie from his life, and he had done a pretty good job until Eddie mentioned his hair in class one day. Cutting his hair. That would be bad. He loved his hair. If he cut it, how would he play with it while they watched a movie? Charlie couldn’t let that happen. Ever.

So maybe his reaction was a little strong, and maybe got the attention of half of the class; but hey, at least they got them talking. Charlie pinky promised to meet him later that day and there he was, standing in the entryway of the Halloran mansion, feeling like he was entering the Evil Sea Witch lair and he’d get turned into a slug or something if he took a step.

He was biting his bottom lip nervously when Eddie showed up. His body had the urge to walk up to him and hug him tightly but he restrained himself, which seemed odd and wrong. His fingers craved touching his hair, but he kept them busy in the pockets of his jacket as he played with some pieces of paper that were there since God knows when. He nodded and took a few steps closer. “Can I have a glass of water?” His throat was a dry as Tatooine.

--

Eddie wanted to know what he had done wrong more than anything. Had he known, or had any clue, he knew he could explain. Or try to. He wanted his friendship back. Nothing like this had ever happened. He had always been fine with Charlie, no matter what weird stuff was happening with the band. Even with them becoming… very popular and taking off once and awhile for tour, there was no way he thought there would come a time where he had to spend time not talking to Charlie. He was confused, but he never thought to follow everyone else’s thoughts on the topic. Even Cai had tried to explain it to him, but the words were not sinking in for him. He knew that he was one of his best friends and that he meant the world to him, but that was what it meant to be best friends, right? He had no idea that anything could be linked to that random woman, who he never gotten the name of. The kiss had not been planned and he sure as hell did not start it. The only reason he was still there was because he couldn’t just leave without trying to apologize for having to go after Charlie. Really, Eddie knew he did because the idea of the other boy walking away made him really sad. As the coming week showed, it was not worth it trying to make it up to the girl. Maybe his brother had a point on that with the quick cut off of women he did not want to give attention to.

Seeing Charlie there made everything a lot more confusing. He knew what was going on, or slowly was understanding what it was. It did not make any sense. Or at least, he had no idea how it happened. That did not matter right now, he just needed to fix things with Charlie before the boy cut out their friendship forever. His confusion did not matter right now. He would worry about that later. There definitely was a moment of tension before he spoke. Eddie did not know how to start a conversation with someone who was angry at him. He had no idea it could be more hurt than anything, so anger was the easiest thing to assume. After all, why else would he stop talking if Eddie had not managed to piss him off? When Charlie asked for the water, he nodded and played with his hair again. “Yeah, sure,” he replied, waving at Charlie to follow him into the kitchen, which was silent and even more awkward. He could not remember the last time he had spent this much time with the other boy and not talking unless it was a test. He handed the water to him and cleared his throat.

He wanted to ask how he was. He wanted to ask what he had been up to. Nothing was coming out, though and he watched awkwardly before going back to messing with his hair. “So…” he started, suddenly regretting having him come over. Why couldn’t this be easy? He tapped his fingers against the countertop, trying to find the words to say. This sucked. “What did you mean, you saw me and her?” He had a feeling he knew what that meant, but there was no way him being touched or surprised kissed would upset Charlie.

Charlie didn’t like the feeling of not knowing what was going on. He knew he was hurt and upset because he saw Eddie with that girl, but he knew there was more to it. The problem was he didn’t know what was it, but everyone around him knew it. He was pretty sure even Lucy tried to tell him with her Ken dolls, but he didn’t get it -- or his brain refused to understand it in some sick brainy joke that was only funny for brains.

This whole idea of coming over was a bad idea. Charlie felt so awkward around Eddie it wasn’t even normal, and he hated it. He didn’t like being like this with his friend, he wanted it all to be okay again; but the confusing and the feelings made it all complicated. Stupid feelings.

Charlie grabbed the glass of water and downed it like he hadn’t had water in a week. But once the glass was placed on the countertop, the awkwardness was back again. He kept biting on his lower lip, looking everywhere but at Eddie and feeling like he did not want to be there. But then he spoke, and Charlie turned his attention to him; though not his eyes. He was still avoiding that. “I meant,” he began to say, looking down at the countertop. “I meant that I saw you. She was flirting and you were letting her and you completely ignored me and then she kissed you.” He was now looking at him, as his words were fueling the upset feelings which were giving him the courage he needed to face him. “And you let her.” Being upset because a girl kissed his best friend was completely normal, wasn’t it? It wasn’t jealousy or anything, right? Why would he be jealous? He was just upset because Eddie forgot about him, right?... Right.

--

Well, that had not been the answer he was expecting. He expected more of an attack on how the girls always went to him. Or how he never shared the wealth- mostly because he did not like the idea of having someone taking Charlie’s affection away from him. But there was never a time he felt like his attention was taken away from the other boy. No, Eddie had been adamant on making sure things were okay between him and Charlie. Mainly because new girl in town was not going to push him from the limelight. No, not possible. Still, the fact that he was this bent out of shape over his getting attention made Eddie wonder about things. He knew that there was no way this was happening. After all, Charlie was very much not acting like he would care in that way. Maybe the doodles were not headbutting? He watched and waited patiently for him to explain what had bothered him. Eddie’s eyes did not leave his friend as he worked through how to explain himself. It was mostly that last comment that had caught him off guard. This was all about him just letting someone kiss him?

Eddie kept watching slowly, trying to work his way around what to say. How did he apologize for something that was not his fault? This was a bit awkward now. He did not sure how this was going to g, but at least he knew why. It did not make much sense right now, but it was starting to. His hands kept running through his hair. “I didn’t forget about you,” he finally replied. That was a start, right? He had to shoot that down. He was distracted, but not why Charlie seemed to think. Yes, the girl was beautiful. but that did not mean he was instantly stuck on her. That was just silly. He may have been a Halloran and needed to at least acknowledge her, but that did not mean she was coming home with him to end up drunken sleeping in… one of the other rooms. That was a Halloran Problem he did not suffer from. “We were just talking, she’s new here. You’ve seen fans get all… obsessive touchy over us before, why did you just take off on me? You didn’t even say bye.”

It wasn’t just about letting someone kissing him. It was about the kiss. And the attention. And the fact that that girl was sex on legs and Eddie would be stupid if he didn’t take advantage of that opportunity. Part of Charlie understood that his best friend would want to hit that, but at the same time the other part of him didn’t like the idea of that. It was like he was jealous of the girl... Okay, so maybe he was jealous. But that was normal, right?

“Yes, I know. But she was different. She was practically asking you to get in her pants. I could see that from where I was standing. And... well, I didn’t... like it.” I was jealous, he added in his head, not having enough courage to say it out loud. He looked down to the countertop again and started picking at a stain that was there. “I left because I thought you wouldn’t need me there anymore. And she kissed you and... well, yeah. I was upset.” Why was getting the right words to come out so difficult? It wasn’t fair. It was probably another brainy joke. That thing was evil.

--

Sure, he had been interested in talking to her. How couldn’t he be? Any guy who had not been momentarily taken by her would be a fool. That did not mean he was immediately in love. She was nice enough, but the instant touchy was a little… unsettling? It did not feel right to him because she was doing things normally Charlie did. Playing with his hair was the main thing. Once he had realized his friend was gone, he spent more time trying to escape than talking to her. He did not care about that kiss because he did not start it. He merely reacted to it, which was normal. He was a teenage boy, after all. His hormones were always on overdrive. He could not really help that if he tried. And he would have if he knew that this was the result. He did not want to hurt his friend. Of course, this was looking less like a friend thing with every moment.

She had wanted to have him in her pants? Well he did miss that memo. Eddie was not entirely the most aware person at times. Most of the time. Still, did Charlie really think that he was going to just go for a one nighter? Charlie knew him better than that. He gave a small pout and looked down at the ground at that point. Yes, he did not like it. That was obvious, or they would not be here talking about things. He was sure that there was a simple explanation for this and Charlie was just not sharing it. And he wanted to know. Now. “You could have just interrupted, I would have stopped talking to her for you,” he told Charlie, hoping to coax what he was sure was hidden under the pauses. He wanted to hear him say it. “Why were you so upset? I still don’t get that?”

Of course Eddie would miss the signs the girl was sending him. Charlie still remembered he had to point out at him that a group of girls were all staring at him while they talked because they all wanted him. And he still didn’t see it and continue talking about some comic stuff. That actually made him smile and think he was a pretty awesome guy. Charlie wasn’t used to get so much attention when there were girls around, which he guessed was normal. He was nerdy and geeky and Eddie was all cool and a Halloran, which according to rumors made you instantly a sex god or something like that. But Eddie was always with him, and he liked it. He liked it a lot.

Charlie opened his mouth to reply, but he didn’t have enough courage to get the words out. He closed his mouth and frowned, looking down again. “Because,” he began to say in a very soft tone, “I was... jealous,” that word was barely a whisper, but as soon as it was out it was like he gained one of Mario’s Super ‘Shrooms, only instead of making him bigger it just gave him more courage. “Jealous, ok? I was jealous of you and that girl,” he finally told him, out loud and looking at him. And now he felt like a complete idiot and was blushing. Great.

--

Of course Charlie got the attention. Why wouldn’t he? It was true, Eddie was… notorious for not noticing advances on him. Not that he was not interested in the idea of having girlfriends or whatever. he simply did not find it to be the most important thing in his life. His friends and band were. Everything else sort of came second, no matter how disappointed that made his father in him. He was always more interested in talking about random stuff with Charlie than hearing a girl talk about herself and ramble on and on without really catching his attention. He was known for his siblings, after all, and so people knew that he came from money. And that they had a specific legacy. They all seemed to assume that he would simply follow in their footsteps. They never expected to take the back seat to his band. Charlie seemed to be the only person okay with that who was not in the band themselves. Of course, he was close to everyone else Eddie spent his time around, but he had not expected to luck out like this with a friend so supportive. Friend right?

Still, Eddie waited patiently as Charlie impersonated a fish out of water. When the words finally came out, albeit softly, he was happy to hear them. Well, sort of. He did not like the fact that it was jealousy over nothing. That was kind of silly. But if he was jealous of him and that random girl, that mean he had to have a different reason for being so bothered. That made Eddie feel a whole lot better considering. Instead of commenting, he pretended not to see his friend blushing and grabbed the glass from the counter. “Well, there was no reason to be,” he replied softly with a shrug before putting the glass in the sink for the maid to clean. “Do you have time for a movie or something?” Sure, Eddie did not want to cut the conversation short, but watching a movie always led to them cuddling. If nothing else, that could open a chance to prod whatever he was not saying. He nodded toward the hall to his room, hoping Charlie would agree.

Charlie was waiting for the earth to open and swallow him whole. He now felt so stupid for feeling jealous of him and that girl, not so much because he felt jealous but because he had said it out loud and now Eddie probably thought he was crazy or something. He just had feelings for him that were strong and... It suddenly hit him. Maybe Lucy wasn’t just banging those Ken dolls like they were wrestling. That just made him blush even more, and he tried to cover it up by looking away pretending to scratch the side of his face while he told himself to calm the heck down like a good Jedi does and not act like a teenage girl -- even if he was a teenage boy.

When Charlie heard the word movie, his ears immediately perked like a dog’s. Movie was good. Movie meant no more awkward conversations and maybe he could relax a little. And things would go back to the way they were. “Sure, yeah,” he said, taking a step and moving toward Eddie’s room.

He knew things weren’t fixed. He still felt like a fool for feeling jealous and for feeling what he felt for him, but a movie was good. It was like a Kit-Kat, and he so needed one right now. And now that he thought about it he also kind of wanted one. “You have Kit-Kat, I’m kind of hungry.”

--

If he thought Eddie would find it silly, clearly Charlie was not thinking properly at the moment. He was hardly phased by the fact that he had been jealous. Perhaps more confused than anything, but he did not see a reason for him to feel embarrassed over it. He would save everything else for another time, once Charlie gained composure again. He did not need his friend getting annoyed for Eddie pushing the issue. he could wait, as little as he wanted to. It would be worth it. He cared too much about Charlie’s happiness to simply let him get too curious and end up causing him to leave. Now that he was starting to understand what Cai was so shocked that he had been clueless over, he was sure that there would be a better time to talk about everything else. At least now he knew what he had done and he could fix the offense. How? Well, he would simply try to avoid that girl if he saw her again, after the promised outing for coffee. And he would promise with was not a date. And make sure she got that message. Why did it suddenly matter now that his friend knew there was no dating? Well, his jealousy was hope.

When he agreed to the movie, Eddie smiled in relief and was about to bound off to his room to get out his obnoxious collection when Charlie mentioned kit-kats. Those sounded delicious. If he didn’t have any in his candy stash, he would have other chocolatey goodness. Maybe that would suffice for now. “Not sure, we can raid the candy drawer in my room,” he replied with a bright smile. Candy always made things better. Eddie liked candy. And the fact that he was slowly feeling more like himself. With a bit of a spring in his step again, he tossed his hair to the side and led the way to the room. Once inside, he shut the door after Charlie and then open his candy drawer for Charlie to poke through while the DVDs were brought out. “What do you want to watch?” Once thing his room was great for was movies. With a 54” plasma TV, surround sound, it was pretty much movie win. “Did you find anything munchy in there?” Eddie put down the case and let Charlie look through them, even though he had seen the collection many times before.

Charlie’s lips curled into a smile when he saw Eddie’s smile. It was kind of contagious. “Alright,” he said with a nod as he followed Eddie into his room. Even if he didn’t have kit-kats, anything with chocolate would be awesome. He was suddenly incredibly hungry. Maybe it was because since Eddie told him to meet him after class, he had barely eaten anything because of the knot in his stomach. That would explain it.

Charlie went to the candy drawer and started looking around and grabbing things. “Whatever you wanna watch is fine,” he replied with a shrug. They could watch the crappiest movie and it’d look and sound awesome with his TV and surround sound. That was one thing Charlie was jealous of and had also been very vocal about. Many times. He only had a tiny TV compared to his, and no awesome surround sound. “I found two kit-kats, but one of them is green... Some green tea shit.” Still, he’d try it. He grabbed more chocolate goodies and used his t-shirt to carry as many of them as possible to the futon with him. He sat down and got comfortable.

--

Seeing Charlie smile was the reason for the spring in his step. As long as Charlie did not hate him, he would be able to make things better. And his best friend was smiling. That had to be a good sign. To him, that was a perfect sign. A sign that this would be fixable. So he went off to his room, hopeful and returning to his normal, bouncy puppy self. After all, movies made everything better. If Charlie did not want to talk, then the silence would not be unbearable. If he did, they would have seen whatever movie so many times now, they did not need to pay attention entirely. Perfect plan! He liked perfect plans, especially when they mean candy and Charlie. And he was mostly positive that there were kit-kats, no promises that they would not be old, but they would be there. Once inside, he saw Charlie go for the drawer and smiled again before opening up his case. When Charlie told him to pick a movie, he knew what he wanted to watch, His ultimate fall-back plan movie. He picked up The Holy Grail before walking over to his entertainment system, wrinkling his nose at the idea of a green tea kit-kat.

“I have no idea how that even got in there,” Eddie replied. he blamed his brothers. It was easier that way. With the movie, in, Eddie hip checked the drawer closed before joining Charlie on the futon. It took him a moment to sit, mostly because he was not sure how much space the other boy would want. Normally he was practically on his lap. This time he was off to the side, but not much, with his body angled slightly in the event of an invitation to cuddle. As the over dramatic music played in the opening, Eddie reached for one of the pieces of chocolate Charlie had brought over. “Why would anyone want a green tea Kit-Kat?” he asked, still baffled as to where it had come from. His eyes flickered up to Charlie with a hopeful look before returning to the television.

Charlie tried not to watch Eddie as he approached the futon, even though he was totally watching him as he pretended to look at the chocolate bars in his lap. He didn’t know where he was going to sit and that made him nervous. He wanted Eddie to sit next to him like they always did, practically sitting on each other’s lap and cuddling. But he was worried the talk they just had made things, particularly this, awkward. And what if Eddie was mad at him for being jealous and that’s why he didn’t sit next to him? Charlie’s mind started with the ‘what if’s and he had to shut it up because it could get ridiculous very fast. Instead, he just shrugged at Eddie’s question and opened it. “I don’t know. Chicks? Girls like all that green tea shit.” He didn’t get it, though. Tea was boiling water with a weird color, that couldn’t be healthy. He’d much rather have coffee, thank you.

He offered half of the kit-kat to Eddie. “I know I said I was jealous and all, but I don’t bite,” he told him, mentioning the space between them that, while it might have not been a lot to other people, it felt like the Grand Canyon for Charlie at that moment. He bit his lips as he waited for Eddie’s reaction.

--

It was just weird. The only time they sat this far apart was in class. And that was because the desks were in rows. Still, Eddie was not about to move until he knew that it was okay to do so. So he just watched as the movie started. If nothing else, he loved the movie, so it would get him through how incredibly awkward this was. Maybe this was not such a good idea in hindsight, but it was happening. He just had to put up with it. He was sure that there was no way he was going to be allowed any closer just yet, so he got comfortable and smirked at the sound of coconut horse hooves. Oh this movie. He was munching happily on his candy when he heard the possible reasoning. Girls did like green tea stuff. He liked green tea when he was sick and miserable with a bowl of soup, but… this was candy. Candy was not supposed to be healthy. That went against the point of… well… sugary sweet goodies that were better called baddies. Gross. He liked his candy to be chocolate, unless it was a Payday. Peanuts and caramel? All sorts of delicious.

He was off musing on the amazingness that was Payday and sweet and salty trail mix when Charlie commented on not biting. Eddie looked over at him, trying to suppress the smile that was fighting to show. That was an invitation, as far as he was concerned and he was going to take full advantage of that. He accepted the other half of the Kit-Kat, still not sure about it before closing the gap mostly and slouching so he could rest his head on Charlie’s shoulder and one hand rested on his knee lightly so he did not disturb their candy stash. Priorities, after all, were perfectly in line. After a moment, he shifted again to get closer, still smiling. So maybe they were going to be okay after all. “You know, we have to do that through the halls before we graduate,” Eddie commented as Patsy started to clap the coconut halves together again. “I’m sure we could get TyTy and at least one other person.”

The seconds between his words and Eddie’s reaction seemed like an eternity to Charlie. And when he finally moved it seemed all in slow motion. But he moved. Eddie moved closer to him, which meant that maybe he didn’t totally screw things up between them by being jealous. Charlie wrapped an arm around his shoulders as he always did and watched the movie with a smile on his face. He didn’t care about the movie anymore. Well, he cared because he loved the Monty Python and the movie was awesome; but all he could think about was Eddie being close to him and how much he had missed it. And he prayed to never be away without it ever again.

Charlie laughed softly. “Totally. It’d be part of our grand finale, because we need to leave with a big bang so everybody remembers us.” It could be like their legacy. It’d be kind of awesome. “Getting people wouldn’t be a problem. Or getting the coconuts.” He took a bite of the green kit-kat and chewed it for a bit before swallowing it. “This tastes weird... It doesn’t take like a kit-kat is supposed to taste.” But he took another bite.

--

Yes, everything was right in the world again. or at least to Eddie. That was what mattered. He adjusted himself a little bit more as Charlie put his arm around him. Right about now, it did not matter what movie they were watching because he was content where he was. Of course. it helped that they both really enjoyed the choice. And there was candy. Perfection. of course, agreeing on making a Monty Python moment in school made it a done deal. It now had to happen. And he was excited. Eddie nodded. “We just need to pick a time. We have to go out with a bang, after all,” he confirmed. Normally he was talkative during a movie he knew well, save for some that silence was mandatory. Right now he was just happy that he had charlie next to him again. At least he had learned from this mistake that he did not even know was a mistake because Charlie had never given him a reason to think it could ever be a mistake… His head was getting a little rambly now.

When Charlie said the Kit-Kat tasted off, Eddie laughed. “Because it’s supposed to be chocolate. They can’t mess with perfection,” he replied, trying it. Yeah, that was just not right. He cringed a little before finishing it. He needed to get that taste out of his mouth though and he picked up another piece immediately. “I am never getting one of those again,” he decided. He was still not sure where is came from, but he would find out and ensure it never happened again. because it was gross. And wrong. While the animated God spoke to Arthur and his knights, Eddie looked up at Charlie for a moment and smirked, turning his attention back to the screen. He really wanted to know why he had been so jealous. Really, he had an assumption, but he knew better than to assume things, so he looked forward again. A minute later, Eddie looked back up at him and decided to use what little courage points he had saved up since Charlie came over. If he was wrong about this, everything would get infinitely more awkward. If he didn’t try, he wouldn’t know. So the boy lifted his head slightly and put his lips against Charlie’s cheek before returning to his original spot on his shoulder. He may have seemed calm, but inside he felt like he was up against the final boss and forgot to save for the past five levels.

It was true that Charlie had never given Eddie a reason to think what happened was a mistake. But to be honest Charlie didn’t know it until it happened. Now his brain was, slowly, starting to put the pieces together: the looks his father gave him, his mother saying they needed to share their feelings, Lucy and the Ken dolls; and then his jealousy. It was all starting to make sense now. But as of right now, Charlie didn’t want to screw things up again by doing or saying something that could possibly ruin their friendship. The jealousy thing was enough for a while. So he’d continue to figure things out while he enjoyed the cuddles of his best friend. That seemed like a good plan. “Next time we’re all together we can figure it all out,” he suggested.

“Good idea,” he agreed as he swallowed the last piece of the green chocolate and grabbed another bar of actual chocolate. He wasn’t sure when it started, he never really did to be honest, but soon Charlie’s fingers were starting to play with Eddie’s hair. He was Eddie’s hair biggest fan. If it had a facebook fan page, he’d click it. Hell, he would probably be the one who made it. He noticed Eddie looking up at him, and the first time he did it he looked down at him and smiled. It felt good. He felt good. Everything felt good now. Without taking the smile off his face, he turned his attention back to the movie, his hand still playing with Eddie’s hair.

He wasn’t ready for what happened next, though. At first his mind was like ’No, he hasn’t just done that’, but then another voice told him he did. Eddie had kissed him on the cheek. And Charlie felt like he had just got like five extra lives just because. His cheeks felt on fire and he was sure his heart was about to explode, but outside he was just smiling like fool and shifted his arm a little so he could pull Eddie closer. “Eddie,” he said, trying to get the other boy to look up again.

--

As soon as his fingers were running through Eddie’s hair, the boy smiled and felt his body relax. This was how it was supposed to be. No complications. No awkward spaces. Just him and Charlie. Him enjoying the way it felt to be pet and Charlie admiring his hair. This was his happy place. It was that full return to normalcy that had sparked his courage to kiss his friend, even if he was not entirely sure how he would react. The moment he did though, it felt like he had to wait forever for a response, which was not fair. Even though it hadn’t been a second since he did it, a wave of dread hit Eddie like a wall and he wondered if that was a bad idea. Until he felt Charlie’s arm tighten around him.

The boy started smiling himself, watching the movie. Yes, this is what the bad images meant. Maybe not so literal- or this literal knowing Cai, but to kiss and make up. They had done just that. The weird part was that this was far from the first time he had done that to someone, Hell, he had probably done that to charlie before for all he knew. He did know he licked him once- he still had no idea why it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. This felt different and more exciting than those. When Charlie said his name, he looked up as an automatic reaction, wondering what kind of expression he would find. The smiles simply made him more sure of what he had done.

What came next Charlie wasn’t even sure how it happened. Well, he knew how it happened. That kiss on the cheek, which wasn’t the first one Eddie had given him but certainly felt way different than the others, had given him extra PS points and now he felt like he was one of the Mega Evolutions from the new Pokemon X and Y. When Eddie looked up at him, Charlie leaned in and pressed a peck to his lips. Yes. His actual lips. No cheeks, no corner of his mouth. Lips. Because if he didn’t try it he would never know, right? The Ken dolls made so much sense now.

As he waited for Eddie’s reaction, Charlie felt like he was a Magikarp out of the water, trying to use Splash on a Mewto. His mind and body knew it had been the right thing to do, but what if he read more into Eddie’s kiss than it really was there? It wasn’t the first one, but it had made him feel happier than others his friend gave him before. Hell, he was probably blushing after that kiss on the cheek. It all made sense to him now, he just hoped the peck made the same sense to the other boy. Because if it did, well, he could kiss the friendship goodbye.

--

Eddie was always the one giving the obscure amounts of affection to Charlie. The other boy always seemed to accept it without questions. Usually for the best because Eddie rarely had good reasoning behind the things he did. But this was different. He was so sure about this up until it happened. He wanted to do that so bad. His hands in his hair was such encouragement. Not that it really mattered of course, not if Charlie did not like it. But he seemed to have liked it. Sure, Eddie had looked away and back to the movie and never got to enjoy the way Charlie had started smiling like a fool or the fact that he was blushing. That was all missed until he looked back up at his friend. What he was not expecting was to be kissed back. Charlie had never kissed him before, so he had nothing to compare it to, but he knew that he liked how it felt.

As soon as it happened, the boy’s face exploded into a broad smile. He was really excited about it. That had to mean he did not hate the kiss. He couldn’t have! He did read Charlie right, which made this whole thing make so much more sense. The reason why Cai kept hinting about them, why he did not like the idea of someone being Charlie’s, even if it was a car. How he was so upset and confused when he just left after the show and why he needed to leave that woman to find him. He liked his best friend, who felt the same. Eddie smiled up at him for a bit longer before returning with a small peck himself, only a little longer before returning head head to Charlie’s shoulder “I’ll tell the guys we have plotting to do,” Eddie comments, remarking on their prior conversation of epic coconut horse hooves. The hand on Charlie’s knee started to rub his leg softly. Eddie was quite happy.

To say Charlie felt like had just evolved into a Gyarados and had kicked Mewto’s ass with just one move would be an understatement. The moment he saw Eddie’s smile after the kiss he could literally jump off the futon and start jumping up and down like a hyper happy puppy. But he wouldn’t do that because a) it’d look weird; and b) Eddie kissed him back. On the lips. Sure, it was still a peck, but it meant the world to Charlie; just like his kiss had. Charlie wasn’t confused anymore. Everything made sense. He liked best friend, and he liked him back. And life was awesome.

Charlie had now an even bigger smile on his face and when Eddie rested his head back on his shoulder, he rested his head on his while he started playing with his hair again -- the shock of the kiss had sort of stopped any other function his body was doing, even breathing for a bit. When Eddie spoke again, it took him a few moments to realize what he was talking about. He had completely forgot about everything that happened prior to the kiss, but could you blame him? “Huh? Oh yeah, plotting. Coconuts. Yes. Cool.” Charlie smiled as he watched the movie, enjoying the feeling of Eddie’s hand on his leg.

--

That kiss had decided him fully. There was no getting around it, now that it happened and he would not have it any other way. He had not, ever, expected Charlie to kiss him back, even with all of the cuddling and the jealousy that had just happened. He figured it was nothing more than being replaced as a friend, still ridiculous of course. But the fact that he was the one who had tried to get Eddie’s attention so he could kiss back? Mind was blown. How could he not give one back? Of course, Eddie was known for being a bit of a flirt with girls and kissed quite a few people, but that was different. None of them were his best friend and none of them made him feel that distracted.

One the feeling of Charlie’s hand in his hair returned, he smiled and let his hand run over his knee. He was feeling a little bold now, considering that had worked out so well. And he liked the way it felt to have Charlie kiss him back. He thought about what to say next after his friend got back on track about the coconuts. Finally, he looked back up at him. “You know,” he started awkwardly. “Perhaps me and you-we should… you know.” His spare hand point from himself to Charlie a few times, hoping that he would catch the hint.

Charlie was on cloud nine at the moment. Robert Downey Jr. in his Iron Man costume and Stan Lee could knock on the door and he’d be completely content with staying the way he was: cuddling up with the guy he liked, who happened to be his best friend, watching an awesome movie -- though he was paying little attention to the movie now-- and eating chocolate. Ok, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration. If they were outside Charlie would totally freak out and asks for photos and autographs, and possibly keep the Iron Man costume or ask to become a superhero in a comic. But after that he would totally go to the way he was with Eddie. Charlie knew Eddie would understand.

When Eddie looked up at him, he looked down at him with the same goofy smile he had had since the kiss. He watched his hand move from him to himself a few times and he nodded. “Yeah, we should,” he replied, smiling at him. To be honest, Charlie wasn’t sure if Eddie meant dating or kissing again, but he was okay with both of them. Although he was pretty sure he meant the former. Or maybe he didn’t meant any of them and he had just made a completely fool of himself in his mind, but then again his brain seemed to like doing that lately.

--

He had to agree with Charlie on the being excited and content. But he would understand the need to geek out. Still, with no such distraction, he was more than content to mouth the lines to the movie as she sat there with a small smile on his face at the feeling of his hands playing with the hair. All things considered, today could not have gone better. Maybe. It could on one aspect and that was why Eddie summoned up the remaining courage points to ask his friend in a very vague way to be his boyfriend. When Charlie agreed, he smiled, then realized he may not be clear on the question. Considering it was already far from smooth, he was not going to try and fix it. Really, like he was ever one to cover up him being spazzy. “So, like… you don’t care if people know, right? I mean it’s cool if you do.”

He meant it, if Charlie wanted it on the down-low for a while. he would be willing to do that. He’d be disappointed but, hey. No point in fighting it. But the boy was having issues not focusing on his friends lips and once his answer came, Eddie tilted his head back up to catch Charlie’s lips again, this time a bit longer.

Ok, so he had meant dating. Good. Good job, brain. Thanks for not messing up with him this time. When Eddie mentioned people, he honestly hadn’t thought that far about dating him. He was just happy he got all figured out and they were dating. Charlie chewed the inside of his lip for a moment, thinking about it. Did he care if people knew? He was pretty sure at least half of the school thought he was gay, and that was without adding Eddie and the way they behaved around each other. If you added that, probably 99.9% of the school thought he was gay. And when he thought about it, he didn’t care they think that. Whether he was or not, it wasn’t any of their business. “You know what, I don’t give a shit about people knowing,” he said with a smile. He liked Eddie. That’s all he cared about.

When Eddie kissed him again, he leaned into the kiss a little, enjoying the fact that it wasn’t just a simple peck but a real kiss. He liked it. He could be doing that all afternoon if Eddie wanted.

--

Watching Charlie think it over made the boy a little nervous. Was he now regretting saying yes? Hopefully not, because that would really be awkward. Maybe he was just shy or was afraid his parents would not want their son to be dating another guy- or maybe just him in general. Eddie knew his parents were not going to be thrilled, but they didn’t like most things that he did, regardless. This was not going to be a new thing. But he waited and kept the worry from showing on his face. When Charlie finally said he did not care, Eddie’s face exploded into a smile. again. He was excited, what could he say? Maybe, in a weird way, Eddie had known for a while that he liked his best friend but never looked at it that way because he figured that it was one-sided. He didn’t understand his own head sometimes, after all. It was a scary place up there.

But he was more than happy to lean into the kiss that Charlie returned. He liked the way it felt and could not help but move closer to him. The movie and candy were forgotten for a moment as he tried to shift to face Charlie without breaking contact with him and letting his hand find the other boy’s.

--

Charlie had no idea how his parents were going to react, though if he thought about how they seemed to know he liked Eddie even before him so maybe they were happy about it. He hoped so. He had never thought about it, but he guessed his parents were pretty open about this kind of stuff.

But Charlie soon stopped thinking about it. His mind decided to shut down almost completely when they were kissing. Functions like breathing and heart beating were working, but forming any coherent sentence or even remember his name seemed not important for his brain right now. And for once he agreed with it. He’d much rather focus on Eddie and his lips on his. He entwined his fingers with Eddie’s when the other boy’s hand find his. When he shifted a little toward Eddie, his thought hearing some chocolates dropping on the floor, but he couldn’t care less about those right now. He was too busy kissing Eddie and trying not to be awkward. Charlie didn’t think he was an expert when it came to kissing or anything that had to do with being touchy in a relationship.

If nothing else, the fact that his favorite brother was going to be okay with this was all that mattered. And Ty. Really, that was what mattered to Eddie in the long line of people who had opinions about his life. He cared about his parents, of course, but they spent so much time reminding him about his failures that it really ruined the spark when he disappointed them. It got old fast, as sad as that sounded. But that did not matter, especially right now that he was finally getting things figured out. His need to be around Charlie. His sadness that his friend was ignoring him. All of it made sense now and all was right in the world again.

When Charlie laced fingers with him, Eddie found all of his courage replenished as he moved closer to him and twisted his body to fully face the other boy and leaning over him. He had to admit, it must have been a long time of frustration hidden away mixed with the excitement of what happened, because he was very wrapped in the moment. The last of the chocolates hit the ground as Eddie began to kiss him a little deeper with his hand now at Charlie’s waist.

--

Charlie had been trying to build some courage to move closer to Eddie and deepen the kiss, but it seemed like his body wasn’t listening to him. The emotions were so overpowering that all he could do was go with them and not fight them. Which was totally alright by him too, because he didn’t want to try get all bold and sexy and stuff and end up being awkward - which would probably be what would happen, if you asked him. Still, part of him wanted to be bolder, but he didn’t have any more brave points left at the moment.

However, that didn’t mean that Charlie was just sitting there doing nothing while Eddie did everything. Charlie kissed the other boy with the same excitement. It felt new to him, and incredibly good. Somehow, while Eddie was leaning over him, he leaned back and sort of ended laying down on the futon, which his head and upper back against a cushion. He wasn’t sure how it happened, but he wasn’t complaining. Feeling Eddie deepen the kiss a little, it seemed to give him a little push to open his mouth and brush his tongue against Eddie’s.

--

He did not think that Charlie would get awkward. Not that Eddie had ever seen him in action. And not that he knew Charlie to have had much action, but still. He seemed like he would be rather in control of things. Or at least he hoped. Eddie didn’t want to intimidate him or push him too far with the kiss too soon, but the way he leaned back against the futon told him to keep going, so he did.

His tongue pressed briefly against Charlie’s lips before the other boy responded and Eddie felt a smirk form on his lips. It only encouraged him to move over his boyfriend more, resting his forearm on the far side of Charlie for balance and legs against his. It had been a while since he had a moment that was exciting at this level and he couldn’t think of something that he would rather be doing. The movie was forgotten and so was the fight as his arm moved to hold Charlie’s shoulder gently.

Eddie didn’t need to worry about intimidating or pushing Charlie by being this intense with the kisses this soon. Surprisingly even to himself, he found Eddie’s excitement and intensity gave him extra courage points to be a little more bold and forget about his awkwardness.

Charlie couldn’t remember the last time he had been in this position; maybe because he was pretty sure he had never been in it. His two brief relationships had never end up in a makeout session on the couch, as sad as it sounded. But he could say that those two moments, as exciting as they seemed in that time, hadn’t been nearly as exciting and enjoyable as this one was. The way Eddie was making him react, he would’ve never thought it would happen with anyone. He tangled his hand in Eddie’s hair and pulled him closer as they both deepen the kiss, wrapping his other arm around his boyfriend’s waist. Charlie was so lost in the kiss he didn’t notice his phone vibrating in his back pocket. It wasn’t until the Cantina Song from Star Wars started blasting that he jerked, startled by the song and breaking the kiss without meaning to. “Shit... My ass is vibrating,” he said with a nervous/awkward chuckle as he tried to keep Eddie on top of him while grabbing his phone from his jeans’ back pocket with his hand. He was planning on not answering the phone, but when he saw who it was he let out a loud groan and looked at Eddie with an apologetic expression. “Swimming team,” he told him as he slid his finger through the phone’s screen to answer the call. He could not not answer this. And now he feel awkward and like shit. Awesome.

--

The lack of push back on his pushing for more made Eddie feel like he could continue. He could not help but move closer. He was glad that Charlie was not awkward after all and his hand grasped his shoulder as he started trying to move over him. Eddie may have had more experience with this department, but that did not mean that he was not seeing this as better than anything he had ever done. He liked it and he was hoping that Charlie was as well. Finally, he pressed his body against his boyfriend’s. He liked how it felt to have Charlie’s hands in his hair and the other holding onto his waist. He had never been the one on top, so it was pretty new and exciting. The hand not holding his shoulder started to grip at his shirt when suddenly Charlie’s head jerked away and commented about his ass vibrating. He laughed awkwardly and tried to shift himself off of his boyfriend, suddenly realizing the exact effect he was having.

He only nodded quietly with a smirk as Charlie answered the phone. Eddie rested his head on the shoulder closest to him and rubbed his nose against his boyfriend’s neck. Yes, he can answer the phone, but that did not mean that Eddie would make it easy on him. His hands run over his side as he waited to find out what they had to say.

Charlie definitely wanted Eddie to continue. He didn't want this to stop. He didn't want him to stop. This felt -- and kind of was -- a whole new experience for him, and the fact that it was with Eddie it made it all more exciting. Which is why answering his phone sucked so much, and it made him feel like a horrible person.

“Yeah?” he answered as he put his phone to his ear and listened to the voice at the other end. He was glad Eddie hadn’t moved and was still laying on top of him, even if that made his focusing on the call a little more difficult. Did Eddie know what effect he was having on him? “Now?... Well, yeah.” He let out a groan and shook his head a little. Of course he was doing something important. What kind of question was that? He continued listening to the other voice and nodded. “No, yeah. I’ll be there in fifteen.” He ended the call and swore under his breath. “Well, fuck.” He turned to Eddie with an even bigger apologetic look on his face. “That was the coach. I have to go. Practice... I’m sorry. I- I feel like shit for having to leave.” They hadn’t been together for more than thirty minutes and he was already leaving him to go to practice, that had to be a record of the worst boyfriend ever. He just hoped Eddie didn’t rethink the whole thing because of this -- and why was he even thinking that? Why was his brain so mean to him? Like it wasn’t enough punishment the fact that now he had to adjust himself somehow without letting his boyfriend know and praying the effect Eddie had on him had left by the time he put on his speedo.

--

Eddie understood the importance of practice. He was sure that, down the line, he would have to push pause on their activities for band events. It was just part of being in a relationship. Not that it did not completely and totally suck. He was not too happy about it, but he was okay with that. Of course, he was still going to completely distract Charlie as he tried to talk on the phone. His nose continued to rub against his neck and he smirked with the hand on his side. He listened to the conversation, knowing that it was not going to end with Charlie getting more free time with him, but he was fine with that. Now, it was nothing more than a little game. When Charlie hung up, Eddie looked up at him with his eyebrows arched.

When he felt Charlie shift, a sly smirk crossed Eddie’s faced. He knew why the other boy was moving to the side. At least the were suffering from the same effect on each other. He shrugged a little and pressed his lips against Charlie’s cheek before attempting to move. He knew he needed to get up and let Charlie more, but he really did not want to. “Well, just come back over after the practice or I can drive you or something.” He kissed him on the cheek again.
