Who: Hayes and Lana (Some Gerard) What: Shooting pool and drinking after work Where: Dive bar near the fire station When: Wed, Aug 14, 9pm Rating: I honestly have no idea
There was really no point in Hayes saying it had been a long day at work. There was no such thing as a short day at work. Sometimes his work days spanned multiple days, it really just depended on how things went, how many emergencies there were, and how many people were on shift. At least there was never a dull moment being a fire fighter. Today he hadn't had to run into any burning buildings though, just emergency calls that really only required an ambulance, but the fire truck always had to go along just in case. Plus they were all trained in basic first aid and could take care of a situation if they beat the ambulance to the scene. Mostly he'd just stood around and tried to look important while his help was most decidedly not needed today. He was more of a traffic cop than anything else it seemed. And it had still been a 19 hour shift. He knew he wasn't going to be able to do this forever. That was part of the reason he'd gone through the fire marshal training. At least on days when he was doing those duties, he worked much more normal hours, usually no more than 10. But not today. So despite the fact that he was tired, he'd really gone full circle. He'd passed exhausted and ended back up at wide awake. He hated when that happened. What that meant though was when he got off work at 8, he called up Gerard and told him to get his abnormally large ass down to the bar to shoot some pool so Hayes could pass the time while he waited for exhausted to come back around.
He was on his second beer and third game of pool. He was pretty hard to beat, it was all about math and angles and shit, right up his alley. He could make most shots, even got a little fancy sometimes. It was when he started missing shots that he knew he was either finally tired or too drunk to keep playing, but that hadn't happened yet, so he was still kicking the asses of whoever decided to put their money down on his table. Always a nice way to make a bit of extra cash. Hayes took a sip of his beer before lining up his shot and sinking the 8 ball, smiling as he did so. The other guy didn't look so amused, he'd gotten maybe two turns in before Hayes had run the table. He just shrugged to him though and took the money before grabbing his beer and wandering over to where Gerard was. After another sip, the bottle was empty, and he waved it in his friend's face as he sat down, pool stick still in his other hand. "Ger, be a dear, go get me another drink," he said with a grin, pushing the money he'd just won towards Gerard. "Get yourself something nice too."
