"I'm actually really good with kids," Tina told her, which was absolutely true. It was one of the few legal things in which he excelled. He was good at hearing them, and being able to talk to them in a way that made them want to keep talking. It was that skill that kept him from pointing out that Daryn was opening up more about her family, and instead had him carry on the conversation as though it were barely important.
"Families like that are confusing," he said casually, watching her carefully in case she needed some assistance. She seemed to be stuck, but he didn't want to insult her by offering help just yet. "People who feel like they need to uphold an image. More often than not, there are some deep emotions in there, but they're kept so tightly sealed that it looks as though no one cares about one another at all. Which is, ironically, the opposite of what they're trying to portray."
