In the wild (Betsy/Sam)
He woke up naked.

Again.

Evan very carefully assessed his surroundings before he decided to move. There didn't seem to be anyone nearby, and there was no overwhelming smell of blood indicating that he'd slaughtered poor, innocent petting zoo creatures again. He slowly sat up and had a look. His nose filled with the scents of others. Other animals that were just animals, but other animals who were more along the lines of himself. A quick glance informed the new wolf that he'd been left with absolutely nothing.

Slowly, he stood. Slowly, he brushed himself off. He was waiting for some kind of trap to be sprung, if he was completely honest with himself. Or for somebody to come out of the foliage, laughing and holding a video camera. Allowing his senses to do their thing, he eventually realized that he was alone in the immediate vicinity.

The only thing to do, then, was walk. And walk he did. He passed a strange sign in Latin that gave him some information that made him more than a little uneasy. It rolled through his head again and again. Why would anybody do that? What was the point? Was he a zoo animal now? He hoped they got fed regularly.

A breeze lifted up and two peculiar scents. They were mixed up in with human things. Evan guessed that they had to be like him somehow. They were close by. Evan, quite boldly, stepped into the path so that they could see him.

Sam smelled wolf before he saw the man step around the corner. The scent of werewolf was hard to miss, even in all the smells around them. He really wasn't a huge fan of wolves; they hadn't done much to wrong him, but he knew that they could be real dicks. This one smelled familiar.

"Well, now there are three naked adults walking around a shifter preserve." There were probably more; they all could guess this. Sam had a feeling the wolf could smell it. He wasn't like Betsy.

"I'm Sam. This is Betsy." Sam felt the slight need to step just a little in front of the woman to give her a modicum of privacy; he didn't. He didn't want her to look weak, and he didn't want her to feel as if he were trying to be some big jealous type. He stood right where he was, sizing up the latest addition to their group.

"Aliens dropped you off? Or does that sound crazy and you're used to this place?" Those were the two options that came to mind for someone to be around here.

Betsy was thinking about her opinion on Collies. They were beautiful animals, and fiercely loyal. But she'd never heard of a collie being pitted against another dog in a fight, nor being of a typical feared breed. There was, however, Lassie, who had saved her master plenty of times, and if Betsy recalled correctly, even fought some bigger badder animals.

Her eyebrow raised at the new nude man. She felt like she'd seen him around before, though she couldn't recall his name. The fact that he was naked like them was awfully interesting. Betsy wished that she could smell things like Sam could, so she could know what he was.

Evan let his new senses open up, though they quickly overwhelmed him. He had to close his eyes to focus on the smells, and even then it was too much. The man had a strange scent to him. Mostly dog, but there were other things, too. That was super weird.

From the woman, Evan felt like he smelled zoo. But not quite zoo. He let his memory work and came up with elephant. She was an elephant? How did that work?

Highly curious.

Opening his eyes after willing his senses back, Evan looked at the two. It was odd to see them as people. He wanted to see them as animals. He doubted he was hiding his confusion and other emotions very well, either.

"Evan. Aliens. Nice to meet you two."

"He's a wolf." Sam looked at Betsy before looking back at Evan. He shrugged slightly as way of an almost apology. "Not the kind I'm used to, I don't think, but he's one." Evan didn't smell like the normal shifting breed of wolf; there was something just a little different.

"Nice to meet you, Evan. Tell Betsy you won't try to eat her if you get hungry. Not that I think you can or would, but it's better to get that all out in the open." Sam hadn't said anything about possibly becoming something neither of the other two could handle; he didn't think he wanted that kind of drama or concern. He could be as dangerous or as harmless as he wanted, and most days he liked to lean toward the harmless side of life. He just wanted to exist and be happy in existence, which was harder than some people might think.

"So, we walk, and we find others either native or dropped off? Or do y'all wanna sit in our birthday suits and wait til the park rangers show up with picnic baskets?" Yeah, Sam knew exactly what kind of place they were at, even if he hoped it wasn't as dark and cynical as Betsy was thinking.

"Betsy, wanna tell Evan about yourself?" Getting the pretty blond talking about herself seemed to do wonders for when she was a little unhappy. Not that he minded when she talked; he was starting to like it.

"A wolf." Betsy raised an eyebrow. "Well. Isn't that handy dandy."

She was sure that if Sam really wanted to be, he could be a wolf. She wasn't entirely impressed with Evan's being one. Of course, the fact that Sam could be whatever he damned well pleased was going to make her not so impressed with anybody who couldn't do the same. Still. Maybe having a wolf that was just a wolf would be good for them.

Her eyebrow raised, a small lopsided smile formed on her lips. "I'm an elephant. A mutant, really. That's one of my powers, though. To become an elephant."

Sam was right. She did like talking about herself.

He was a bit startled when Sam called him out. Nobody had just known before. Well. He supposed Simon had known, but Simon didn't count in the general sense of things, given what he was and what he could do. But he calmed down as Sam explained a bit further. He knew wolves. Did he know them here? Probably a conversation for another time.

"I'm not going to eat anybody. I seem to be fond of small, defenseless farm animals and people's cooked dinners."

Evan's own brows went up when Betsy revealed what she was, and he'd been right. The surprise wasn't so much that she could do it, but that he'd sussed it out. But really, how did somebody so tiny become an elephant?

"I say we walk. Look for others. We're going to be best in a group." He smiled a bit. "Or pack."

"Or memory." Sam smiled, giving Betsy a wink. See? He liked things on the more level, even, simple side of life. That's why he'd opened the bar, even if some might argue having a place full of alcohol serving people who probably had guns or knew how to get them easily wasn't the simplest, most even or most level type of life. Sam knew where he was though with the gun toting redneck drunks, which meant he was just fine.

"Don't think I've ever done the farm animals. I've herded them a time or two, but eating them?" He thought about that one. It was possible he'd done it in his first days, or on some of his crazier need to get drunk sort of nights. "Eh, we've all done things we weren't proud of when we came to later.

"Collie." He explained in case Evan didn't understand why Sam would herd on instinct. He would explain eventually that he was more than a one dog shifter, but for now collie seemed like a good enough answer.

"So, what is it you do for a day job?" Sam didn't ask if Evan had been bitten or was born wolf; that would be Evan's story. The wolf outing was more because they'd figured he was already a shifter - nakedness was clue. Though..."Do you think everyone's going to arrive nude? Maybe this is a clothes free preserve?"

Betsy smiled at Sam's insertion of the word. Not many people knew what a group of elephants was called, and she very much liked that he'd include her like that.

She bit her lip to keep the smile from growing too much when she thought about Sam herding farm animals. She could almost see the delight in his eyes at doing it.

Suddenly she found herself wanting to see Sam's collie form, maybe curl up with it as she read a book. It was a strange thought to have, but very comforting.

A Collie. That wasn't all that Evan smelled on Sam, he was sure of it. But he didn't say anything out loud. Not being so used to his senses, maybe he was smelling something else. And he really didn't want to sound like an idiot. Or out Sam if he'd just told Betsy that he was a Collie and nothing else.

The pair of them seemed to be close. He caught Betsy looking at Sam in a certain way, the way he was sure he probably looked at Niks.

"I'm an artifact hunter." Evan tossed a hand, waiving it haphazardly. "I was. Before all this. I traveled the world looking for items."

He narrowed his eyes a bit out of gut reaction. "NOT like Indiana Jones. I have a knack for finding them. Got paid quite a bit to do it, too. What about you two?"

Sam smiled a little at the clarification. Someone had gotten a lot of Indie jokes, no doubt. He was a little oblivious to the looks he got from Betsy, mainly because he didn't think of himself attracting women who might be a little higher in station so to speak. He knew he could find dates and all of that; he also knew the kind of women he usually attracted.

Walking along butt naked really wasn't as awkward as some might think. Perhaps it was the shifter side enjoying the freedom, or it was the animal in him that didn't like being bound by clothes. Perhaps he really just didn't care.

"Owned a bar." The shifter shrugged; it wasn't treasure hunting, but it kept him busy. "Where all the vamps and shifters hung out. Not that I planned that. Really would have been nice to keep it to the boring humans - the only shit they get me into was a barroom brawl now and then. Had a few fairy in, a couple other things around. Didn't know Bon Temps could be filled with such crazy when I bought the bar."

Sam missed his bar and the people that went with it. He missed a few people in particular, but he wasn't longing for them. Sure, Sookie could have been the love of his life, yet Sam wasn't one to pine away. Not when he didn't have the choice.

Betsy shrugged a little bit. She'd never actually had a job job. She didn't really know what to say. She let Sam talk, hoping that Evan would just ignore her on that particular query.

A warewolf artifact hunter and a multi-shifter bar owner. And her a spoiled princess elephant. What a trio they made.

"Good, honest work, barkeeping." Evan nodded his approval. His eyes slid to Betsy, who didn't seem like she was going to speak up on the matter. "Fariy."

His lip curled without his consent. "There's one of those here. Well... I suppose like one and a half. Fairy and faekin. The full blood is a complete bastard. Don't make any deals with him, promise him nothing, and appease him with small shiny trinkets."

Evan hoped neither of these fine people ever had to deal with Simon.

He looked around as they moved. There was more than enough room here for all of them to set up camp on several acres and never have to see one another if they didn't want to. Evan thought it might be fun for a little while, to run around and just be a wolf. But he decided it would be much better to be not here.

"I'm pretty new at this wolf thing. So I'm sorry if I don't have the right... manners? Decorum? Whatever it is. I don't know rules."

"Yeah, fairies can be tricky things." Sam had a fairy-related gal back home. Sookie wasn't his. He gave a soft huh and shrugged; it wasn't his problem anymore he supposed. Although, he did wonder what was coming of his bar and his staff.

"You could be lucky for that. Being new and not having the whole pack thing to deal with." Wolves and all the other critters out there could be a real pain in the ass. They all had their little idiosyncrasies that he could have done without. There was a reason he'd tried to find a place that didn't have any supernatural types around. He hadn't gotten that lucky in the end.

"Don't worry about it. Just don't go eating people, and we're all good." He really didn't want to have to deal with that. It didn't happen often, not like the movies made it out to be.

Jack rolled over and groaned as she woke up. Ground? She was sleeping on the ground? With a dying fire not too far away. There was a moment of trying to figure out exactly where she was. She was surrounded by nature, which wasn't the norm for the hunter who had been many places in her relatively short life.

"Right." She gathered up her things, managing to get her sleeping roll back in with everything else. After throwing dirt onto the fire to make sure it was out, Jack started walking. She didn't care for the waking up alone in the middle of what looked like a jungle? She was without a decent weapon? Fun times for all.

Rather than sit around and bemoan her situation - she felt she deserved a small bemoaning - she started walking. Now all she had to do was hope she didn't meet anything that could cause damage. That ought to be easy right?

Fairies? There was one here? Betsy found herself wanting to track him down and speak with him face to face. She recalled her childhood visions of tiny people with beautiful wings, and discovered she was having a hard time believing anything like that could be difficult in any way. Maybe precocious. But a bastard?

"I don't know if there are rules to being a wolf. Or a shifter. But I fully agree with the not eating people aspect of this conversation."

Betsy's eyes scanned as they walked, trying to keep track of everything around them, despite the fact that she was sure that both Evan and Sam would know far before she ever did if there was an issue.

"I promise, I've done good so far not eating people. And I'll keep the effort up." Evan was starting to be able to recall when he was a wolf, and he figured the next step from there was being fully aware while he was in that form.

He was glad that Sam had known fairies in his world, that made things easier. Maybe he'd have at least one ally against Simon if it came down to it. He couldn't be sure how Niks would lean.

"Packs are bad?" It was an honest question. He hadn't ever known a werewolf, let alone a whole pack of them.

His nose tickled with a familiar scent, though it was still a bit distant. He couldn't determine if he was actually smelling it.

"Smart. Just because you haven't in the past doesn't mean you won't ever. Funny what happens when hungry or angry or hungry and angry." Sam had seen and heard much in his life, and there were times he really wish he hadn't. There was a small pause as he caught a new yet familiar scent.

"Packs can be damn bad." Sam wasn't worried about his English, or his word choice. He didn't think Evan would mind, and Betsy didn't have a choice. Well, she did; she could walk off on her own. Sam just didn't see that happening at the time. "Start getting the whole alpha shit going; who's on top of the mountain and all. Then you got all the people at the bottom of the mountain, all of 'em doing whatever the fuck their alpha tells them to. It can get real fucked real fast.

"Sorry. Look, wolves are fine, long as you don't get mixed up in a pissing contest or upset an alpha. Goes with most social shifters. You gotta prove you're worth their time or they kill ya. You also gotta prove you respect them or prove you can take 'em down. I'm thinking you're lucky you're not dealing with all that shit. Course, I can see where having others round could be nice." He knew being alone and learning on the fly wasn't fun.

"Don't worry; I'm not a social shifter variety." He smiled, teasing somewhat. Oddly enough, he was speaking the truth. Sam did better around the "regular" humans, sort of. Though, he really didn't have a choice; "pure" shifters didn't exist in numbers that allowed for packs or whatever else they'd be called.

Jack was not expecting to meet four people who looked familiar, very familiar when it came to one face. Actually, she was expecting to meet someone she knew, but she sure as hell wasn't expecting them, any of them, to be naked as the day they were born.

"Well, shit." That seemed like the best thing to say when she walked around a bend to this. Her brows furrowed as she looked between the three of them before pulling her pack off her back. "Y'all wanna be naked, or get a little something tween you and the world?"

That was Jack. She saw a possible problem, so she'd start working on a possible solution. Though, she really wasn't going to complain about the sight. The hunter could appreciate what she was seeing, all of what she was seeing.

"I've got..." She crouched down, her nose lips pulling ever so slightly as she realized yet again that she was without a weapon. She'd work something out. "A shirt, pair of shorts, pair of pants, and...a gown. Some rope. We could probably rig something up." She glanced at the three and waited for an answer.

Betsy was a little annoyed at the appearance of a newcomer. Not a little bit because the new woman was fully clothed. She had to guess that the woman was not any kind of shape shifting creature, because otherwise she would have been naked. Right? That seemed to be the trend thus far.

But she wasn't stupid, and she wasn't going to deny the opportunity to get clothed. Betsy wasn't ashamed of her body, and the need for embarrassment was a very far ways back now.

"A gown?" She was confused by that. "Like... a dress up fancy gown?"

The boys should have first crack at the pants, she thought.

"Jack!" Evan moved to the front when he recognized the scent fully. It was surprising to see her here, she wasn't a werewolf, or a shifter, or whatever Betsy was. At least he hoped not, because if she was, that would mean it was his fault. Her clothes seemed to suggest otherwise.

"I think we're all pretty used to one another naked at this point, but going forward it might be nice to have something on."

Evan wasn't even shy now, with the new face. Probably because he'd already slept with Jack. But maybe he wouldn't have been anyway. It was hard to tell.

"I don't know if either the shorts or pants will fit me, but I'm more than willing to give it a try."

So, Sam was right; the woman was from their group. Some might call the whole group a pack, and that gave Sam a bit of a unpleasant shiver. He didn't want what came with pack mentality - the politics and the need to be top. He didn't want to see that with this lot because what he'd seen hadn't exactly shown him that there were many followers.

He couldn't help the soft laugh at Betsy's question. He could understand the confusion to a point, and it was cute in a weird way. His hand lifted to lightly brush along the blond's arm, a sort of apology for the laugh.

"Think she means something you can sleep in." He could hear the Southern in the woman's accent, even if she wasn't forcing it. This Jack was someone he could relate to, to a point. The fact that Evan didn't seem to mind being on the naked side around this woman also suggested that they knew each other in the more clotheless sense.

"I'll try whatever you got, thanks." One could almost imagine him tipping a hat in some good ole boy way. He wasn't a Southern gentleman by any means, but that didn't mean he couldn't be polite when someone was offering to help.

"You got anything to make a tent? Not saying I want to wrap myself up in a tarp, but it might work better than your pants." He knew women didn't like it when men could fit in their pants, at least.

Jack smiled at the greetings, giving Evan a wink. Sam wasn't the only one to find humor in Betsy's question; Jack didn't laugh at least. She just smiled and pulled out the pale blue cotton shift.

"Night gown. Though I do gotta wonder if they'd do that. Put a formal in a camper's bag just to see what might happen to it. Some of that material is damn useful, or can be." Jack would survive a zombie apocalypse, even if she didn't care for living without motel amenities. Something told her the blond might be of the same, or perhaps she'd be more of a posh hotel sort.

"You can have it. Don't sleep in them." Jack tossed the blond the gown. She pulled out pants and shorts for the men. "I will probably hate myself if you can get those on comfortably. I'm not tiny, but no woman wants to see a man in her pants - and I don't mean the English version of underwear." She could be cultured-ish.

"No, no tarp, nothing that could be tent worthy. Think they'd throw that or a mosquito net in with all the other stuff. Any reason why y'all are members of the nude brigade?" She could come up with a few, but she'd rather hear it from them.

"Oh." Betsy hadn't ever heard it called that before, she'd heard nightie, and nightgown, but never just gown. There were only two images that sprang to mind with that word. Fancy shit, and that flimsy thing that they gave to people in hospitals.

She caught the bit of clothing easily and began to work it out of tangle it had become. It was cute, she supposed. What one might expect for camping. Maybe. Did people wear nightgowns when they camped usually? She'd always imagined people just living in the same clothes day and night for a week and then going home. Which is maybe part of the reason it had never appealed to her.

The touch from Sam had been a nice gesture, she hadn't minded the laugh. She'd been able to tell it was good-natured. And she was beginning to really like Sam's laugh. In whatever form it decided to present itself.

"I think it's because we can all become animals. We're part of the attraction." Betsy shrugged as she straightened cloth over herself.

Evan sized Sam up, trying to determine which of them should try the shorts. He thought it would be a pretty hilarious sight, no matter which of them ended up in them. He was pretty sure that just trying any of it on was going to be funny.

He was kind of hoping that the pants would fit easily, not because of Jack's size, but because they'd been made to be baggy. He would tease her relentlessly. Alas, he didn't think that's the way it was going to go.

"Give me the shorts." He said, finally. He'd let Sam keep his dignity in this. There was no particular reason why, honestly. Evan just felt like being nice apparently.

"Thanks." Sam could have meant it for Jack who tossed the pants his way or for Evan for taking what could be a very uncomfortable bit of apparel. Sam wasn't too proud to take the easy way out.

"Not one for saying it up from, but yeah, walking around in the buff kind of gives it away maybe." The shifter shrugged and started the struggle, which it really wasn't, of putting on this Jack woman's pants.

"Specially if you've seen the signs." They were a fucking huge giveaway. Couldn't hide from that bit of truth, no matter how much they might want to. Eventually they would be found out.

He grunted as he pulled the pants up. They were longer than he needed, and the cut, while baggy, did feel strange. There was a need for hips and nothing dangling between the legs to make it work. He did his best to be discreet in the anatomical rearranging of sorts before he crouched down to roll up the pant legs.

"Thanks." He looked at the dark haired woman, nodding. That was definitely met for her.

Jack's brows rose at the choice, but lucky or perhaps not so, the shorts were to the knee shorts, meaning Evan wouldn't have to worry as much about hanging out of them if he wasn't careful. They weren't overly baggy, meant to fit just so. She sighed softly as the blond was going to look better in the gown than she herself might have, and Sam did indeed fit to the pants.

"Well, there goes my self-esteem." She rolled her eyes at it all before standing. While they got dressed, Jack worked on the situation. Three shifters. She knew what Evan was and believed she could trust him. His scratch and bite didn't mean he'd make more wolves, and so far the wolf hadn't attacked humans.

"So, y'all are all wolves?" The look Sam gave, something that hinted at disgust, told Jack that was not the case.

"Okay, so not all wolves. Right." She had to bite back the question of whether or not any of them fed on humans. Evan seemed to be okay with them for now, so she'd roll with it. Part of her hoped that Kai was somewhere else entirely, even if the hunter was growing concerned from lack of actual contact with the Hunter. Kai wouldn't last long here, at least her sanity wouldn't.
