Phaedra couldn't help it. She was going to have a laughing fit. They ALL could use that here. They were constantly in flux and at the whim of alien beings. Nobody ever knew how long they'd be where they were, or what came next. And while that was true about life... it wasn't the same.
Here it was more dire.
And then she did laugh. Because he kept talking about spontaneity yet seemed to lack any sense of it himself, sitting there with his hand on her leg. She supposed it wasn't his fault. She'd had 300 years to learn to read people.
