Phaedra pulled at her lower lip with her front, flat, human teeth, and she nodded. It was a difficult thing to explain the ways you weren't human to someone who mostly was, but given the way she'd met Peter, Phaedra realized this was more like evening the scales than outing herself.
Besides. The longer she sat here, the more she talked to him...
"It's pretty much impossible to kill me." She arched her eyebrow. "I'm sure it's possible, but it's a lot of effort. I've done a lot of putting myself in harm's way for everyone here."
She swallowed. It was a lot like what she'd done when she was human. And she shrugged her slender shoulders, like it was no big deal. Because it wasn't, not really. The other thing was.
But that wasn't all of it.
"It's a little more than just being unbreakable, though," she said. Her eyes shifted away from Peter's, then back. "I found your stuff because I was reading Earl's thoughts. I try not to do it all the time because it's been pointed out to me that it's rude."
She licked her lower lip.
"But sometimes it's hard not to do it."
And it made her a hell of an opponent. She waited for the reaction. It looked like, just barely, she was bracing herself. Getting ready to flinch.
