There was something amusing about waltzing when the tune wasn't just right. There might even be a joke in there about dancing to the beat of their own drum or something along those lines. Whatever the case, Eleni wouldn't have traded her dance partner for anyone right now. She leaned in closer than most of the couples when Max put his arms around her. It was a nice feeling, and it struck her that her time as an abductee had been such a whirlwind and yet she'd grown awfully attached to this particular fellow abductee. It had snuck up on her, but Max had been there for her throughout this time and there was definitely a sweetness about him that she couldn't help but like.
Unfortunately for him, she didn't get the reference to either name since it was a different universe. There hadn't been much time for reading or watching movies while in the clutches of aliens, after all. Or if there had, she hadn't sought those specific movies out.
She blinked, a little confused at the names.
"Who?"
Though the names were necessary to get the context. He was going somewhere with this, and it wasn't somewhere that she liked.
"My brother doesn't get to choose who I dance with," she said. She didn't mention that he was currently missing. It wasn't that unusual for him, even in this circumstance. She was worried, but no more than usual. No, she didn't mention that. Instead, she focused on what he was trying to say.
"And no one said that you had to suit up just to dance with me. That doesn't make you undeserving either. So don't sell yourself short. Unless this is your way of saying 'it's not you, it's me.'"
She was still smiling, but just like that the conversation was nudged a little more into potentially uncomfortable territory. And yet, she thought that maybe it was time they stopped dancing around each other and figured out if there was something there.
Or maybe there wasn't ever a good time for that in between all the planet hopping, but here they were anyway.
