Jo had spent the last few days since Sam's reappearance just trying to wrap her mind around the fact that this wasn't the Sam that they'd lost in York. Oh, she knew it on an intellectual level. But it was still hard to come to terms with. Particularly when Sam was still Sam. It didn't matter what had happened with his timeline, he was still Sam Winchester. The sweeter and more introspective of the brothers. The quieter one who spent more time thinking before he spoke. Dean's little brother who would always, always come first. And that was okay. The two brothers had a bond that no one could touch and Jo had just really been relieved that they'd gotten Sam back.
But now. She stared at Dean, silent while those words really sunk in.
"Which angel?" she asked quietly.
Because yeah, it really did matter. She'd learned awhile ago that not all angels were good. In fact, many were just as devious and just as much trouble as demons. In different ways, perhaps. Cas was one of the good ones though. She just wondered if Dean knew which angel. Obviously if he did, it wasn't an angel that he trusted.
She reached up to touch the side of his face, if he'd let her.
"It wouldn't be the first time that a version of you would do whatever had to be done to keep Sam alive," she said quietly.
There was a bit of forgiveness and understand in her tone. Dean might be pissed at his other self, but Jo could see why a decision like that would have been made. That didn't mean that she had to like it or even agree with it, but she couldn't think of any version of Dean letting his brother die without literally going to Hell and back to keep him alive.
