Evan nodded. "And I thought that you were intending to hurt them. I apologize. I did tell Mary to let everybody know what was going on with me, since we were on a small island. I had not really had a lot of experience at that point with being what I am. I was afraid that somebody might stumble onto me and then things would get out of hand."
He lifted an arm and gestured between them. "As they obviously did. Luckily, you aren't an ordinary person, and what I did to you wasn't that big of a deal. I can't imagine what would have happened if it had been someone else. The wolf read all of your signals wrong."
Evan sighed. He was glad that this guy hadn't been harmed. "Evan." He held out his hand. "Evan Vang. Resident werewolf. Artifact hunter. Scoundrel about town."
